Injecting a little luxury into life, without breaking the bank

I recently treated myself to a fancy coffee and macarons in a designer department store. Cheaper than buying anything there, but still felt luxurious :)

Thought it might be fun to start a thread on how people get their little fixes of luxury without spending a fortune.

Buying luxury hair care from TK Maxx

Love some of the leave in spray conditioners

Buying a set of essential oils
I now make my own "purdy and figg" cleaning solution
My own fragrance for my room diffuser
My own facial oil
My own cleansing oil
My own body oil

Everything smells sensational for under £40 outlay and its been going for 2 years.

I used to buy clinique facial oil and itnwas about £38 then....I bet its much more now

Would you mind sharing your P&F "recipes", please? There are a couple of their scents I love, but can't justify the cost of the single bottles - cheaper to buy a full set but don't love all the scents!

I'm a loose-leaf tea fan too, though I always stick with Barry's Gold Blend - make a pot for breakfast every day.

But worse and weirder - with my first ever wages I bought a second-hand teasmade (why yes, I was a slightly odd teenager) and all my life since then (a long long time) have half an hour or so in bed with tea and the radio before I get up and face the day.

@Vinvertebrate

Sounds lovely, mind telling us which cologne it is?

CatteryCatz · 30/05/2025 22:10

I forgot to say this on my previous post, but this is such a lovely thread

Linen bedding is heavenly in summer and worth the little splurge.

Every so often I give myself a 'holiday at home'. I work quite hard, both OOH and self employed, so just having a whole day with nothing planned is quite a luxury. I buy something a bit special to cook for my tea - M&S ready meal and snacks - and take myself and the dog out for a walk somewhere scenic, then come home to a clean bed, clean PJs and my M&S special. If I'm really pushing the boat out I'll take a cup of tea and some posh biscuits up to bed with me and lie and read a new magazine for a while.

I have simple tastes...

Sounds lush

Thank you to whoever recommended the Sanctuary wet skin moisturiser. I bought some today as I happened to be in Boots and see it and have just used it despite being a bit sceptical on how a moisturiser that you apply when wet and then towel dry would actually work. Well, my skin feels fantastic already and I walked downstairs where DH told me I smelled delicious 🤣. So that's a win in my book!

I will still always be loyal to Champneys body balm which is also excellent but that is much thicker and takes longer to soak in so having another alternative when I am pressed for time is brilliant.

MyKingdomForACat · 31/05/2025 17:04

Isn’t the Sanctuary wet moisturiser amazing!

Mary46 · 31/05/2025 17:45

Sanctuary is lovely agree

You’re welcome! Glad to see several people like it. A little bit of luxury.

All my other Sanctuary bits are here now. Oh it’s beautiful. Thank you x

Once I’m retired in about 20 years time, I really hope I’ll have enough pension to have a Gousto or Hellofresh subscription. I’m single right now, but even if I find a partner I just think small things like this will elevate my life a little whilst hopefully being quite healthy!

Right now though, no way could I afford it but just a little luxury for me to look forward too maybe if I live long enough haha 😁

Edited

I'm not single but when DH travels for work I try and get a discounted Gousto or Hello Fresh. It means I cook and eat properly for myself rather than just bread and cheese, and I choose recipes where I can save the second portion for lunch in the next couple of days which ends up feeling rather good value as that's basically all my meals for the whole time he's away.

Deathraystare · 02/06/2025 15:09

Not sure if this counts as a luxury but guess not quite essential (although...) just seen a Charles Paris on audible. Bill Nighey is wonderful! Had to buy.

Also recently bought the Le Petit Marseillais Extra Gentle Bath & Shower Cream Organic Sweet Almond Milk 650 ml from Amazon. Love the Almond smell and makes my skin feel good!

Funny - I buy Champneys and my friend buys Sanctuary!

Did you say you'd ordered a Sanctuary candle @MyKingdomForACat ? I'd love to know what you think of it when you light it (although I appreciate you might not light candles at this time of year!). I absolutely love candles and am always on the lookout for ones that give a good scent for not too much money! Thanks in advance.

I'm (im)patiently waiting for my wet skin moisturiser, it'll come with my Amazon Subscribe and Save on 7 June.

MyKingdomForACat · 02/06/2025 19:20

@CarrieMoonbeams Oh I’ll be lighting it don’t worry 🤣 Yes of course I’ll let you know x

Jedstre · 03/06/2025 18:10

I also love fresh flowers in the house. Just bought some white lilies to replace the last ones which have lasted 10 days.

My big 1pint Emma Bridgewater mug for my morning mug of tea. A couple of people have mentioned loose leaf tea, which I’d like to try. Any suggestions please?

M&S do a lovely bar of single origin dark milk chocolate(not as sweet as regular milk). I hide it from the kids so me and DH can enjoy it.

I don’t often buy shop bought desserts but if I go to Waitrose I’ll pick up one of their tiramisu which are delicious.

MyKingdomForACat · 06/06/2025 09:09

@CarrieMoonbeams Hi. The candle is lovely. Smells just like the other Sanctuary toiletries. Treat yourself x❤️

CarrieMoonbeams · 06/06/2025 09:47

Thanks so much @MyKingdomForACat . My moisturiser is arriving tomorrow - it's my first venture into Sanctuary products and I'm already convinced that I'll love it! Will definitely buy a candle too, thanks again x

MyKingdomForACat · 06/06/2025 09:48

@CarrieMoonbeams No probs x

TheOnlyMrsW · 06/06/2025 13:06

I love Sanctuary products!!!!! Not one for big brands at all but this one is a keeper, DH buys me one of the big gift boxes at Christmas and it lasts most of the year

PearlsPearl · 06/06/2025 21:49

I'm another big fan of the sanctuary wet skin moisturiser, it smells amazing. I am off to buy a candle now!

PearlsPearl · 06/06/2025 21:51

Forgot to say my luxury. I buy Espa shower gel (from amazon, cheapest place) and use it at the gym after an aqua class or swim. It smells AMAZING- it's what they use in spas- people have commented on it in the changing rooms. It feels like a massive 'well done me' for exercising!

CarrieMoonbeams · 28/07/2025 09:19

@MyKingdomForACat and any other fans of the Sanctuary Spa Wet Skin Moisturiser - it's currently on a "3 for the price of 2" offer on Amazon, both as subscriptions and as one-off purchases. No doubt other products in the range will be too, but that's the only one I looked at as I'm just heading out.

I've just ordered another 3, turns out that DH loves it too!

Edited to add, @PearlsPearl , I see your post was under my previous one as you like it too, so thought I'd copy you in as well in case you want to stock up.
