Injecting a little luxury into life, without breaking the bank

I recently treated myself to a fancy coffee and macarons in a designer department store. Cheaper than buying anything there, but still felt luxurious :)

Thought it might be fun to start a thread on how people get their little fixes of luxury without spending a fortune.

Chocolate covered pistachios?! I need these (even though I've only just become aware of their existence). Where do I get them from?

Well, thanks, you lot 😳 I've just spent £26 on a kilo of chocolate-covered nuts (including pistachios) at Amazon!

I won't half enjoy 'em, though.

Subway breakfast. There are so few takeaway breakfasts I can have due to diet needs. Hand cream beyond a basic moisturiser is a luxury for me too. I got some with a gift voucher I received from work. And I get 2x half an hour with my kindle and coffee once a week on the train to/from work. I've started this instead of driving as it's now quicker and no significant cost difference. Time is probably more of a luxury than items at the moment. I'd love to be able to afford a cleaner.

Morrisons 'The Best' West Country butter. Literally everything it touches turns to gold - so delicious.

Tip: buy it when its on offer and freeze it. Keeps for up to 4 months.

Nice olive oil ( we use Gift of Oil )
Have our tea delivered ( Ringtons )
Use Molton Brown or Loccitane handwash
Buy our cheese from a cheesemonger
High thread count bedding

Ringtons tea is the best. No other tea comes close.

Chocolate covered coffee beans from Fortnums also lush. Used to be about £10 a box. May have gone up.

SociableAtWork · 29/05/2025 13:23

Fancy shower gel and body lotion to match my perfume. It’s genuinely better than my usual cheapo, lathers well, only a small amount needed and it feels so luxurious to ‘layer the fragrance’ by.

I don’t go out much so have started using it just for me, even if I’m only at home pottering.

Also love a clean bed so sometimes change it more than the usual once a week so I can have a shower, use the fancy stuff and go to bed smelling fab. It’s the little things 😊

@TomatoSandwichesthey are really good.
the food is amazing but also easy to cook

mylovedoesitgood · 29/05/2025 14:48

Twinings Extra Strong tea bags.

Chelsea Peers pyjamas, bought four years ago from John Lewis, they haven’t faded much and they’re still in good shape after hundreds of washes.

Kelly Hoppen at M&S soft and long lasting towels, currently a third off at their outlet stores.

Good quality black gel pens. I hate writing with biro’s.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 29/05/2025 15:26

Lovely yarn for knitting and crochet. I only use real wool and other natural fibres, which makes it more expensive than acrylic, but a skein or two for a hat or something will hardly break the bank. Making a whole jumper or a blanket can be a bit pricey though!

TheOnlyMrsW · 29/05/2025 16:04

What a lovely thread!

Mine is also fresh flowers - going to make space in the bathroom for some too, @isthismylifenow I'm very jealous of your trips to the market, it sounds lush.

@NeedForSpeed I'll take advantage of your code - I love to cook but meal planning is the bane of my life but I've always thought that things like Gousto and HelloFresh are beyond my means, thank you!

Starting a new story or project in a beautiful new notebook. TK Maxx is my preferred notebook supplier. And writing in them with a fountain pen with beautiful ink.

fourquenelles · 29/05/2025 18:09

Thanks to this lovely thread I have been out and bought the Sanctuary wet skin moisturiser, M&S Salami with walnuts and their huge, huge, huge black grapes. <Cough> I also treated myself to a £7.99 big, pink, plastic jug shaped like a flamingo from TKMaxx.

My Sanctuary wet skin moisturiser (thanks to this thread) arrived yesterday and I used it this morning! I’m now going to order a few more Sanctuary products including the candle x

Perfume dupes, mainly from Perfume Parlour. I get to smell amazing every day for a tiny fraction of the cost of the real thing.

Love this thread!

For me it’s having nice candles at home to light after a nice day.

Fresh bedding and a gorgeous bath followed by the Sanctuary wet skin moisturiser, some magnesium and lavender cream on my feet, Neom oil in my diffuser and a glass of wine in bed on a Saturday night!

If I’m feeling particularly fancy I’ll order myself some flowers! There’s currently a lovely bunch on Freddie’s Flowers containing some peonies which I am thinking about getting! Not to spam with referral codes but if anyone wants a 50% off code for your first bunch here it is:

Also, a bar of milk chocolate with salt flakes in it- Lidl or Aldi do great versions!

Mine is free! My next door neighbour and friend wanted a treat for ourselves so we decided what would be most important to each of us if we had money for a touch of luxury to us, Mine was clean fresh bedding everyday on my bed, hers was 2 nights kid free to persue hobbies. So we made it happen, I have my bedding done by her and I provide the babysitting and sleepovers if necessary. Works for us!

sprungingspring · 29/05/2025 20:30

I have got a subscription to a loose leaf tea company. God, it was a revelation. Every morning as I make a pot, the smell from the tea caddy makes me smile. Such a little thing but so impactful. I can’t go back to teabags containing dust now.

Sounds lovely! Which company do you use?

Cien75 · 29/05/2025 23:27

Sanctuary products - any of them all lush and not too pricey

CarrieMoonbeams · 30/05/2025 00:32

I've just ordered the Sanctuary wet skin moisturiser after reading this thread! I ordered it from Amazon to come with my Subscribe and Save things next week (so that made it £5.86), I'm looking forward to trying it.
