Injecting a little luxury into life, without breaking the bank

I recently treated myself to a fancy coffee and macarons in a designer department store. Cheaper than buying anything there, but still felt luxurious :)

Thought it might be fun to start a thread on how people get their little fixes of luxury without spending a fortune.

Buying some music on iTunes. Last week it was treating myself to burger and chips from the chippy. Small things but transformative for me.

dontcomeatme · 27/05/2025 12:24

Buying more expensive coffee for the house instead of aldi bobby basics. Absolutely love coffee

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/05/2025 12:25

Probably daft, since we could afford them anyway, but I counted something I wouldn’t usually buy - a big pack of mango chunks - as a bit of a luxury the other day.

menopausalmare · 27/05/2025 12:27

Rich, creamy hand cream.
Fresh cut flowers.
Lovely scented candle.
All these can be under a fiver.

At this time of year - buying peonies for the hall table - makes me smile everytime I walk past.

EveryDayisFriday · 27/05/2025 12:30

Full on spa day at home. An everything shower twice a week followed by a home facial. Exfoliate, lotions, plucked and shaved head to toe. Take the time to properly style my hair after a hair mask. Painted toes. All while listening to my favourite music makes me feel amazing.

Allaboutmememe · 27/05/2025 12:37

I book a 2 hour slot at the salon every fortnight for a massage pedicure wax etc.
I also buy the best food and coffee.

I put flowers in the bathroom - so every time I go to the loo I smile at them!

Butter.

We use about 2 blocks of butter a week (no marg or spread in this house!). So instead of spending £4 week on bland supermarket butter, I spend about £6 or £7. But every day I feel so happy spreading some good butter on my toast/potatoes/crumpet/tongue. Just a small outlay for a touch of daily luxury.

Flowers for the house - peonies at moment

Lovely soap and shower stuff

Stationery especially a good pen

My treat is the Liberty beauty box every quarter. - lovely surprise pretty box through the post - makes a change from the bills

Middleagelady · 27/05/2025 13:09

That sounds pretty expensive, Isn’t the thread about doing cheap little luxuries?
I like a sheet mask and body oil after a shower. The Aldi dupe of brazillion bum bum cream after a shower, and before bed is lovely.

Octavia64 · 27/05/2025 13:11

I love macarons.

there’s a lovely cake shop near me and I do occasionally indulge.

You know I didn't think I'd like them so I was really pleasantly surprised! I did prefer some flavours over the others though TBF. I may have to treat myself again.

The 2 hour slots are £50 so to me its cheap.
The rest i just think screw it go for it why not.

I do Gousto sometimes especially in winter, I’m good at getting coupons though!

Debtfreeme · 27/05/2025 13:20

Getting guosto and hello fresh when on offer.

Liberty beauty drop which I blow on the advent calendar. Gives me all make up, skincare and perfume for the year. If I don’t like it, I sell on Vinted. if I run out it’s Aldi specials give me a little lift all year round.

howshouldibehave · 27/05/2025 13:22

I also buy the best food

All the best food?! That sounds pricey!

CharlotteRumpling · 27/05/2025 13:23

I need to remember to get some peonies!

I LOVE this idea 😍

I bought two mugs in the sale from Oliver Bonas on Sunday. They were £5 instead of £15 each and included hot chocolate!

I am treating myself today. I'm on annual leave and have decided to eat prawn crackers, chocolate and anything else I fancy. I'm also going to watch some shit telly. This whole day of time on my own feels like such a luxury.

LadyWhitwell · 27/05/2025 13:49

I buy good quality skincare products from the special buys section in aldi. They are dupes for brands like clinique, Korean, Japanese Etc. expensive brands. For example last week I bough matcha face gel face wash for £5.99. The actual retail price for the original brand is £67. The accompanying matcha face cream was £4.99, actual brand is £91.
