Appetite suppressants

Hey all, can anyone recommend an appetite suppressant? I’ve lost 6 stone on mounjaro and feel great but now that I’ve stopped the hunger is insane. I’m trying to eat high protein and only have healthy snacks but I am ravenous all the time. I can’t afford to be on the injections forever so am hoping something more natural exists to stop cravings or make me feel full? A food or drink or patch or anything really?!

Oh, this is my fear @littlemousebigcheese ! I come off it after the next dose and very worried about the hunger pangs.

Someone help us please 😁

littlemousebigcheese · 22/05/2025 20:58

im not going to lie, I am struggling with food noise and constant hunger way more than before. Only consolation is that I’m 6 stone down so can’t put it all back on at once. I’m trying desperately to be mindful and eat in a calorie deficit but it’s not happening as I feel starving 24/7

Amphetamines... only joking

HappyLols · 22/05/2025 21:03

Have you put any on?

What is your daily food?

I am hoping that starting the day with bacon and eggs will help a lot as that usually keeps me full for a few ages

notenoughhere · 22/05/2025 21:07

Edited because I missed the bit where OP said financial reasons

FusionChefGeoff · 22/05/2025 21:47

Vast quantities of water and peppermint tea?

susiedaisy1912 · 22/05/2025 21:51

I fear the only answer is try your best and dont rule out going back onto Mounjaro in the future

myplace · 22/05/2025 21:54

how much would a maintenance dose cost?

SheRasBra · 22/05/2025 21:56

Hopefully you are tapering off your Mounjaro and haven't stopped cold? You should ideally reduce the dose gradually back to 2.5mg for a month the same way you increased it. The rebound hunger is insane.

Mudlickets · 22/05/2025 21:57

Are you sure you are eating enough - like 1800 calories to maintain for example?

i thought that the benefit of the injections was you train your body not to eat so much when you don't need it - I'm an emotional eater so I would hope it servers that- as I'm not hungry when I emotional eat. If you are hungry it suggests you need to eat.

Fatbride · 22/05/2025 21:59

I've found Glucomannan quite effective in the past. I actually got them from Numan initially when I ordered Wegovy. They still worked when I stopped that for a while but I'm now on Monjourno so stopped taking them.

aredcar · 22/05/2025 22:01

Following as am in same boat!

littlemousebigcheese · 22/05/2025 22:17

So on the injections I just wasn’t hungry. I read about training my body and relearning and getting into healthier habits and all that but the simple truth is I barely ate because I wasn’t hungry at all. The injections stopped the food noise and stopped me over eating because I wasn’t eating in the first place. For the first time ever I wasn’t craving bad food or wanting McDonald’s or a Chinese every other day. My eating was very poor and I’d fallen into bad habits obviously. I did taper off, and then did a 5 a fortnight before stopping after those pens. Now I’m just so hungry again and I’m starting to nibble a lot on the children’s snacks and eating bread and pasta and it’s just impossible. I’m eating a lot of fruit and veg and snacking on high protein things but the problem is that because I’m eating more than the 600 ish calories I was eating on the injection, anything is loads comparatively? I’m an emotional eater and a big snacker and also my family are huge on eating out for any and all special occasions and I feel like my choices are be a fat cow or be a poor cow on mounjaro forever.

Clear minds hypnotherapy has worked for me £12.99 a month subscription and there’s loads on there!

HappyLols · 23/05/2025 10:39

@littlemousebigcheese I was on about 600 cals too at first as just couldnt face anything. I am on about 1000 a day now.

I will be strictly calorie counting when I have tapered off, hoping that keeping to a max of 1500 and still walking a lot means I can keep it off.

I admit I am disappointed that when the cravings come back when MJ is wearing off in the week, I STILL crave chocolate!! I suppose my brain still goes there but I had hoped that 6 months of having very, very little would have stopped the craving.

If you eat more you might find those cravings lessen. 1000 calories a day is not sustainable for a grown adult. Why are you eating so little?

FetidMoppet · 23/05/2025 12:30

Are you still trying to lose rather than maintain? Do you know your tdee?
If not, start by calculating that and subtract 500 to get your daily calorie target (make sure it's tdee not BMR).
Eat high protein, high fibre foods. Don't avoid fat, but eat good fats. Cut right down on carbs. Do exercise.
All these things help with satiety. It sounds like you are not eating enough and then craving energy from carbs.

Custark · 23/05/2025 14:13

I came off MJ because of side-effects after 3 months but still have weight to lose. The hunger has been pretty intense, but it was before MJ as well, so just back to normal. People who blithely say they have one meal a day, or that if you ‘ignore the hunger it goes away’ have no idea. I sometimes wake at 3am absolutely ravenous and have to eat, I can’t get back to sleep otherwise. I am aiming for 1200 calories (I’m short) but have been ending up at 1700 calories which is my maintenance.

BUT, I seem to have found a solution. I got a CGM for a couple of weeks to try and see what really amped up my blood sugar. I was surprised to see that my blood sugar doesn’t really spike that high, but does spike quite easily, and I am often hypoglycaemic, particularly overnight. I have changed my breakfast completely so that it is pretty much pure protein and I’m eating a lot more in one go rather than eating a bit, getting hungry again quickly, snacking etc. This morning I had 3 eggs, feta, spinach, then a couple of spoonfuls of natural yoghurt, chia, flax, raspberries. That lasted me for 5 hours which is unheard of. My previous oats, flax, yoghurt or whole meal toast with peanut butter would only last for an hour or so. For a snack just before bedtime I have half a banana with peanut butter. This stops me waking up at night - my previous snack of nuts and cheese just wasn’t enough.

Sorry for the essay but it’s really pleased me to have found some kind of solution for myself. Your 600 calories a day though OP is way too low to function on, you need to up it.

littlemousebigcheese · 23/05/2025 14:29

I’m not on 600 anymore, it’s what I was averaging on the injections as I wasn’t hungry at all. I’m now on 1800 ish but go over too often for my liking. I’m just starving!

Constant Food noise and strong cravings are almost impossible to control and miserable to live with op. I understand completely.

MJ makes me feel so sick so I cant eat more. My week goes
Days 1 to 3 feeling sick
Days 4 to 6 ok but not hungry
Day 7/8 appetite reappears as MJ effectiveness suddenly goes

SoManyDandelions · 23/05/2025 16:30

Chromium is meant to help suppress cravings. A woman at my work takes chromium supplements and raves about them. I've never tried them so have no first hand experience! And I have no idea if they contraindicate with anything!

That sounds ridiculously delicious unhealthy. Can you reduce your dose? If not and that’s you on 2.5mg I would reconsider taking it at all.

I am nearly finished as am at the weight I was aiming for. Been on it for 6 months and it is the only way I have been able to lose the weight.

Looking forward to coming off it, though scared of the appetite coming back with avengeance!!

littlemousebigcheese · 25/05/2025 10:59

Tbh NOTHING has worked for me in the past, no diet or exercise or pills etc. I have lost six stone and feel so much better and happier in my skin so I don’t even care about side effects or feeling a bit sick on the injections as it’s worth it 100%. I’m just a bit gutted I might not be able to keep it off
