Yes and the asylum figures have doubled since 2021. That is negative.

I note Jenrick is on manoeuvres as is Cleverly. There was a lot of comments on Badenoch yesterday because she missed an open goal on Starmer’s u turn, which really was a bad thing for him politically and she could have nailed it quite easily. But she does not have that adaptability to do that.

It's always about small boats, just don't mention Brexit.

Philp claiming its as a direct result of Tory policy in their last year of Government.....

Funny how anything negative is Labours fault....

Of course he is. He’s nothing if not predictable. If their policies were working so well why did they spend nearly a billion on Rwanda?

bombastix · 22/05/2025 13:21

Philps problem is that claiming credit for a “problem” your own party created in the first place is a zero credibility move. It’s a bit like their stance on the EU which is equally incoherent and well put here;

Alexandra2001 · 22/05/2025 13:32

Probably a combination of restricting dependants by the Tories, quicker asylum processes by Labour and both parties creating a "We don't like foreigners" vibe.

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2025 13:37

Quadruple the issue and then claim credit for halving it

Bit like celebrating that school funding is back to 2010 levels

And as predicted, a High Court judge has lifted the injunction blocking the UK’s Chagos Islands deal, allowing the handover to Mauritius to go ahead

I am sure the ones Dubai Dick bought to wave around outside the High Court will suffice.

If reform supporters are comfortable with a foreign resident who happens to be an MP flying into the UK to actively support anti-government legal action, then I hope they stop being cunts and start realising what an incredible place the UK is. I cannot think of any other country in the world where that could happen, and the headlines not be about traitors.

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2025 14:14

Still on holiday, the MP for Clacton is missing today's Westminster Hall debate on the UK-EU summit.

Cue "Labour pays off union paymasters" rubbish.... kinda forgetting these are people that we desperately need, unlike Reform MPs.

bombastix · 22/05/2025 14:42

If the economy were growing faster then these rises would not be so contentious. The public sector debt to GDP ratio has actually got a little worse in the last year, not very much different from Sunak but it’s still a fiscal fag papers difference and if Labour do want to spend then it’s tax and ps cuts or some growth. The second one seems too willo the wisp to rely on right now

Because he doesn’t care and he knows it’s over as political leverage. Immigration and bashing the Tory party can be done working from home…..

I was really impressed with Kate Garraway this morning. She said over and over to Jenrick how the shortage of prisons was because Tory’s failed to build them and Labour have said they will and basically he’s being unrealistic to say it’s their fault for not building them in 8 months when they failed to in 14 years.

Apparently it’s because of people leaving the UK, evidently they’re bound to be highly skilled. 🙄

According to ONS the emigration figures are now about the same as in 2017.

Were they all highly skilled, I wonder?

Anyway, they will be pleased to know that most emigration was of foreigners. Isn't that what they want?

non-EU+ nationals accounted for 43% of total emigration (222,000)

EU+ nationals made up 42% (218,000)

British nationals made up 15% (77,000)

The thing is, even if there were a mass wave of emigration, where to ? I suspect that the more mobile people (i.e educated, skilled) would probably not be as keen on the US as maybe a year ago.

And EU countries aren't as easy to move to as they once were.

Politics keeps happening but I keep waking and it’s hard to keep up. 12 miles today. I’m knackered.

Any rest days planned?

We had one a couple of days ago. Just two
more days, and they are only 6 miles each. I’m happy and confident I shall make it. Proud of myself. I have an arthritic knee and after lockdown messed it up (not enough exercise) I struggled to walk a mile. Bit emotional. I may cry when I get there.

DuncinToffee · 22/05/2025 20:30

It will be emotional when you get there and rightly so Flowers
