Have you used a weight loss medication? Which one? Do you recommend it? I’m not sure which to choose!

Finally decided that I need a bit of extra “help” to aid with my attempted weight loss. I’ve managed in the past with diet and exercise, but at 56 it’s more difficult, and because of family stress (won’t bore you with) I’m lacking the self discipline and mental strength.

DDIL has just lost 3 stone on Ozempic, but I’m not sure if this is the best? Mounjaro works well too, apparently. Anyone have any experiences or tips on these (or others)?

TIA!

I’ve used Wegovy and Mounjaro and Mounjaro is much better

GameOfJones · 20/05/2025 13:45

I am currently taking Mounjaro, I'm 11 weeks in and have lost just under 2 stone. It has been revolutionary for me, I've been fortunate and have had very few side effects other than some tiredness and constipation when I first started.

But I do know that some people have had nasty side effects so it is something you have to research and make sure you're obtaining from a reputable provider. My GP is aware that I'm taking it.

Littledidsheknow · 20/05/2025 18:59

Many thanks @GameOfJones and @wite .
I think I was leaning towards the Mounjaro. Hopefully I’ll share your success!

Ill be sure to tell my GP.

Good luck! I use MedExpress and they tell your GP anyway.

Ate you in the UK? I ask because Ozempic isn’t licensed as weight loss drug. If you are in the UK the mounjaro is shown to be the most effective and have the least side effects.

Littledidsheknow · 20/05/2025 20:20

Yes, in UK @Dreichweather (but no longer in dreich Scotland 😉)

I think Ozempic can be prescribed privately, off license, for weight loss. I’ll ask DDIL about that as it’s definitely what she told me she used. I think Wegovy is essentially the same thing, same active ingredient.

I’ll be doing it privately anyway, and leaning more towards the Mounjaro. There are all sorts of different things available on Superdrug alone. It’s a bit mind boggling!

You would have to find someone who is willing it give it off license. It would be rare to find someone other than a consultant. Maybe she was using the term ozempic to mean weight lose drug in the same way people say hoover to mean vaccum.

Anyway Mounjaro 2.5 is what you need to start.

Littledidsheknow · 20/05/2025 21:38

Thanks again, Dreich think I’ll just press ahead with Mounjaro from Boots or Superdrug, maybe check out MedExpress as mentioned above.

Thanks for all posts everyone.

Wegovy is the weight loss version of Ozempic. Both are semaglutide, but the dosing is different for Wegovy than for Ozempic.

@Littledidsheknow Boots are usually the most expensive supplier for no good reason, and Superdrug are also often one of the more expensive suppliers. Have a look at the comparison website https://monj.co.uk for a list of uk regulated suppliers. There are many that are much cheaper than Boots and Superdrug. The medication is the same wherever you get it from.

Has anyone tried the Alli tablets? Considering trying that first.

Littledidsheknow · 20/05/2025 22:12

Thanks @SilenceInside thats very helpful. Should save me some money!

Mounjaro here! Changed my life. 2 stone 4lb down since February. Now on 5mg and other than a few days of diarrhoea, no real side effects.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/05/2025 22:51

I thought I’d ordered Munjaro. But for some reason Wegovy arrived. I can’t afford to waste it. So giving it a go.

Littledidsheknow · 21/05/2025 20:22

Thanks everyone. I ordered the Mounjaro using a refer-a-friend link from DIL (it was Mounjaro she used after all) and got £40 off! So excited. That was from ‘Simple Online Pharmacy’

@WhatIsAScottishEgg “Changed my life” is exactly what I want to hear!

@NeedthatFridayfeeling there might some info on Alli on the weight loss board.

@Toddlerteaplease you should have got your money back! Good luck if you stick with it though.

Thanks again, everyone.

@Littledidsheknowits my word against theirs. I can’t swap
ot and can’t have a refund. I was surprised how quickly it’s completely killed my appetite. We t to one of my favourite cafes and didn’t want any lunch. My friends were astounded !

Littledidsheknow · 21/05/2025 23:14

That sounds infuriating, but I’m glad it’s working for you anyway @Toddlerteaplease

I, too, hope to astound people with my lack of appetite very soon!

It’s so weird. You could put a slice of chocolate cake in front of me and I just wouldn’t be interested. This is so unlike me! Had my usual skinny latte and then cup of tea in Neros this morning and struggled with the tea. My colleagues are going to be absolutely gobsmacked by the reduction of tea intake. (Usually drink it by the pint) and hopefully lack of interest in boxes of chocolates!
