Popular songs you actually don’t like

Neighbours a few doors away have been out in the garden, having a bbq and playing music.
Earlier, they played ‘Sweet Caroline’ on loop 4 times 🤪
I remember reading somewhere (maybe on MN?!) that some people can’t stand this song.
Personally, I don’t mind it, but maybe 4 times is a bit much!.

What other songs which are deemed “popular” but actually grates on your nerves?
Mine are Seal’s Kiss From a Rose, The B-52s Love Shack and Fairground Attraction’s Perfect - just for starters!

Angsty songs by young blokes, especially ones with odd voices, i.e. anything by Tom O'Dell, Lewis Capaldi, etc.
Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri - makes me want to scream
Promise Me by Beverly Craven - the audible breaths do my head in
Frankie by Sister Sledge utter shite from the amazing group that gave us We Are Family and stapled the vicar 😉

I doubt this is a particularly popular song but all the mentions of Cliff Richard have got 'living doll' stuck in my head now so thanks for that 😬🤣

Have to say though I'm loving all the Love Shack hate on this thread. My BIL used to play that on a loop, every night (used to live with my sis and him). I have actually had to leave a supermarket when that came on, I think I'm traumatised

Andoutcomethewolves agree about the only song I like by Oasis! Also hate Coldplay (I think it's Chris Martin's voice) but love Queen & can appreciate the Beatles

Re Love Shack, in the 90s we used to go clubbing & they would always play Love Shack, Size Of A Cow & Friday I'm In Love. It became a bit of a running joke as my friend hated all 3 songs & he looked as if he was about to murder someone whenever any one of them was played 🤣

Feels by Calvin Harris featuring Katy Perry and Pherell Williams. I used to think she was saying sth about catching fish but apparently it's feels!

Friday I'm in love was my 'morning after' song at raves and festivals, I love it but can't imagine clubbing to it. I don't know size of a cow and not sure I want to Google 😬

Size of a Cow is by the Wonderstuff. I like it, it's very catchy but I can see how it might quickly get on one's nerves 🤣

Totally agree! She couldn’t sing and only got a recording contract because she happened to be Liverpudlian in the 60s - on the back of The Beatles fame.

I will concede that The Power of Love by Jennifer Rush and especially Mull of Kintyre have dirge like qualities, but I still don't mind hearing them once in a while.

I think that Loving You by Minnie Ripperton is beautiful actually. It's also especially poignant as I believe she died of cancer not long after recording it, leaving behind her very young daughter. Who grew up to be the actress Maya Rudolph.

Did you see that ITV drama about her a few years ago? She was played by Sheridan Smith, who did her own singing and I thought made a better job of it than your actual Cilla. Sorry Cilla!
