Piglet in bed v Secret Linen Store v Soak and Sleep

I’ve decided I really want to try pure linen bedding . Given the cost, I want to get the right bedding.

ive seen on here all the above get recommended .

ive looked at best of pages and these three mostly .

Soak and Sleep have reductions and are a better price. But I read the revoe2s on their page and some said they are transparent. One person said after three years it started to be too worn to use.

I thought linen lasted for years and just got better .

One of the best of pages did mention bobbling with Soak and Sleep.

So wondering if I just have to pay the higher price of the other two retailers .

So do I need to pay more for bedding that will last and is better quality ?

thanks

Soak and sleep used to be fantastic but has gone massively downhill. My original sheets and duvet cover that are about 10 years old are vastly better quality than the new ones, which are thin and lack shape. Also noticed the labels had changed - I think they’ve moved to China.

I have two sets from Piglet in Bed and I’ve had it years, no sign of wear at all.

TheQuickRobin · 12/05/2025 18:50

I think john lewis do some pure linen ones that come in a lot cheaper

I got H&M linen bedding which was great - I also love Piglet in Bed. Gets better with each wash

Undethetree · 12/05/2025 18:59

I've had Secret Linen for 4 or 5 years and it's still great.

TonTonMacoute · 12/05/2025 19:01

I got some from Secret Linen and went through the bottom sheet in a year or two. Personally I won't bother with pure linen bedding again, and have gone back to pure cotton.

TheCheeseTax · 12/05/2025 19:33

The natural cotton from Secret is AMAZING.

Me too! I thought it was DH’s toenails

I have two sets of piglet in bed linen and have just purchased from Chalk Pink Linen company, similar cost to Piglet but IMO quality is superior. I know this wasn’t on your list but worth a look.

whirlyhead · 12/05/2025 20:01

I have a piglet in bed linen duvet cover which washes fine and still looks good after 2 years, and my soak and sleep linen sheets I’ve had for a while and they too are still fine though as I live in Spain, the sun and humidity destroys linen so I’m not sure they’ll last much longer!

Open to other options. So Chalk Pink is better ?

That is what some of the reviews said.

@MoiraRoseForever yes for me chalk pink is better than the 2 x piglet linen sets I have. Only downside, if you can call it that, is there are less colour/patten options.

HelenHywater · 12/05/2025 21:29

I decided to try linen and bought some from Chalk Pink - which was lovely, and a second set (because I couldn't afford two from Chalk Pink) from John Lewis which is also lovely.

Don't bother with La Redoute which is rubbish.

But like a pp I've gone back to my old cotton bedding- I prefer the feel of a high(ish) thread count although I do like the look of linen. I have some cotton bedding from Secret Linen Co which feels lovely too.

It’s actually cheaper than Secret Linen Store and Piglet .

We bought all linen, but have ended up with holes in the bottom sheet and the replacement we bought. So in future are sticking to cotton for bottom sheet, linen duvet cover and pillowcases

thats what I thought I’d do . Also I do have some cotton fitted sheets from Secret Linen and they are really soft .

i don’t think it would look odd. Plus I usually mix up colours so don’t have matching bedding anyway .

Wonder why holes in bottom sheet .

Gener , does linen lasted for years as they say it does ?

We use cotton base sheets with linen duvet covers and pillow cases.

hattie43 · 13/05/2025 07:58

Secret linen store here and no issues , just bought a beautiful vintage pink throw aswell.

In my case I just wore through the fabric from lying on it, moving around, turning over etc. I was about to put a clean sheet on the bed and I could see right through the fabric, it had got so thin.

My DGM had linen sheets from god knows when, they would be packed up and sent to the laundry and would come back starched and folded like card. Lasted decades. I think my aunt still has some!

MoiraRoseForever · 13/05/2025 18:09

Any thoughts on linen for hot weather and the brands discussed here ?

this is very helpful !

Linen all year round for me. Only got my first set around two years ago but am a big fan.
