Witness to a drug deal. Have reg number. Report?

DameDoggieDoo · 11/05/2025 11:41

I witnessed a very blatant drug deal yesterday between a random car and a neighbour who I know to use recreational drugs. It took place right outside my house. I noted the dealers car registration plate.

Should I report it to the police? (I don't mean reporting the neighbour, I mean tipping the police off that reg plate XXXXX belongs to a drug dealer).

If you don’t mind your house being set alight, go right ahead!

babystarsandmoon · 11/05/2025 11:42

I wouldn’t but only because you have to live around these people and it could cause you a lot of trouble.

DameDoggieDoo · 11/05/2025 11:43

I would report anonymously

No

Jeezitneverends · 11/05/2025 11:45

I’d report it via crime stoppers. There won’t be any immediate raids on houses as a result, it’ll be added to intelligence

dogcatkitten · 11/05/2025 11:46

Can you do it anonymously? I wouldn't want anyone to find out or you could be in serious danger. Would you be willing to stand up in court?

What an attitude to have 🙄

Jmaho · 11/05/2025 11:49

You can but you're probably wasting your time. I have reported a car that parks on my mums road for blatant dealing several times and he's always puffing on that happy gas and leaves the canisters scattered around on the pavement. Nothing ever happens. He's still there every day and night dealing

teenagersandtoddler · 11/05/2025 11:49

I see this frequently where I live, I would never get involved.

And this is why crime is rising and becoming more blatant

HarrietSchulenberg · 11/05/2025 11:54

You can report anonymously through Crimestoppers. It's unlikely to lead to an instant arrest but it will be used as intelligence. If you don't report it, it won't stop.

Dearg · 11/05/2025 12:02

Yes report through crime stoppers. As others say, it will be added to intelligence. Report it again if it continues.

Dealing openly on residential streets is a real concern.

Try living in an area where people are maimed/ murdered for reporting dealers, you may change your mind. It doesn’t mean you agree with it, just that you value the lives of your loved ones more than you care about your neighbour buying drugs.

Is this because people know nothing will happen if its reported? So it creates apathy to these situations and it becomes more blatant by default? I rarely see a policeman/woman on the beat in my town and if I do, it's usually a special in the town centre. It's only people's personal morals that hold society together I sometimes think.

I used to work in a coastal village. Everyone knew who the local drug dealer was, he and his family were very blatant. Every so often the police would turn up, have a chat and leave. It made the villagers who weren't involved in the drugs scene presume the police were in on it and they just warned their children to stay away from that family. I don't think that situation is uncommon. Fraud on the other hand...

I could be wrong and teenagers is a snitches get stitches type of person though! 😄

AcquadiP · 11/05/2025 12:08

Yes, report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

UpJacksArseAndRoundTheCorner · 11/05/2025 12:09

Report all you want but don't expect anything to come of it.

There are always drug deals going on just outside our car park at work. We constantly report to the police and they do bugger all about it.

The most they've ever done is sent a car that just happened to be in the area, about 2 hours after the dealers left.

We've even invited them to check our CCTV images but they never bother.

polarsystem · 11/05/2025 12:12

I have the same situation. We have a neighbour who regularly at all hours and blatantly buys drugs outside of our house. I’ve reported him numerous times but, nothing seems to of come of it. I would anonymously report if you feel safe to do so.

WearyAuldWumman · 11/05/2025 12:15

As others have said, use Crimestoppers in order to stay anonymous.

Years ago, my husband and his friend went to the police about teenage girls being plied with drugs. The desk sergeant didn't want to know: "We're only after the big fish."

Motnight · 11/05/2025 12:15

We had this happen for a short while. Live in a quiet residential road. On the fourth time in about 5 days my DH went outside (it was after 10 at night so not many people around) and just stood at the front of our path watching. Letting the occupants in the cars opposite know that they were being seen. They never came back. No words exchanged and no reporting (which I would have done anonymously if it had continued).

Tickingbomb · 11/05/2025 12:15

God no. Mind your business. It isn't your life.

ItsUpToYou · 11/05/2025 12:16

No.

You may be right I have no idea but I have to think about my family and any potential repercussions. It is a big problem in our area and due to that we focus a lot on education and as we are involved in a youth group we tend to concentrate efforts there as opposed to reporting because that’s where you break the cycle. We’ve had a couple of really good speakers come in who made a big impact.

mindutopia · 11/05/2025 12:18

I personally wouldn’t, no. The police already know who the local dealers are. But short of catching them in the act with a huge quantity of drugs, it’s not going to go far.

StMarie4me · 11/05/2025 12:20

They won’t care. There was a dealer doing 50/60 deals a day across from me. Coke. Not even weed. Reason I moved 4 years ago. Drove past last week and he’s still doing it. Everyone, including police, are well aware.
Truly, they won’t care.

Motherknowsrest · 11/05/2025 12:21

Yes. Use crimestoppers. But screenshot it as proof.
I've done it loads of times. And reported via 111 with photos. Trust me, nothing ever happened to me as the entire street was sick of the dealers and also reported them.

They even had guns stored in the street. Still took over five years for the police to pick on the minnows, Mr Big was never touched.
