Do you hang your pants on the washing line?

I’m very fortunate to live in an ex/council property and we all have big gardens with those old fashioned high up pulley washing lines.

I also have a rotary line just because it’s a bit quicker and easier getting stuff out/in.

I peg my pants on the rotary because they aren’t so visible. Baring in mind my pants are just bog standard black or white bikini briefs.

NDN today has got a whole load of glorious, pastel and yooooooge pants fluttering on the high line. Hoisted for half of the village to admire. Think of the pants yer nan maybe wore in the 80s.

i don’t know if she’s a brazen hussy or am I just a massive prude.

Of course I put my knickers on the line! How else will they get dry? My neighbours all out their underwear on their lines too. I peg out my old dad’s pants for him in his garden. Who cares? My gran used to say the neighbours counted things like pants on the line, and got judgy if they thought you weren’t changing them daily!

Of course you did. You said her knickers were HOOOOOOOOOOOJ, so that was clearly a pop at her size. And you sound like the prickly one with your barbed comments towards a neighbour hanging her washing out. It's got nothing to do with you what people hang on their washing line.

Have you met my neighbour? Do you know her clothing size?

my teens wear hoodies that I describe as HUGE or massive or gigantic. Am I fat shaming them too?

Hahaha are you my next door neighbour?

I mean they were huge as in big pants. Not commenting on her dress size FFS

You’re not only a prude but you’re rude too.

Explain which point of my OP was rude

There was no need to mention what her underwear looks like. You’ve spoken about it like you think it’s silly and your tone and attitude are rude. You could have asked your question without trying to belittle your neighbour - and yes, you have tried to.

CurlewKate · 10/05/2025 19:23

One of the things they only happen on Mumsnet. Of COURSE people hang their pants on the line IRL.
and @catin8oot5yes, you are rude and prude.

Seamond · 10/05/2025 19:24

I use one of those Octopuses for my smalls.

WhateverYouSayDears · 10/05/2025 19:25

Picklechicken · 10/05/2025 18:39

So what kind of underwear is acceptable? We all wear it. Maybe they think you don’t wear any if you never hang yours out.

Yes, you’re probably referred to locally as ‘Commando Woman’.

Missey85 · 10/05/2025 19:30

😂😂😂 there only knickers! I hang mine outside nobody cares 😊

aspidernamedfluffy · 10/05/2025 19:30

I don't but that's because I'm a bit fussy about who sees my underwear.

Ecrire · 10/05/2025 19:31

I am just here to understand the relevance of the pants being “yooooge” to the point that OP was trying to make.

Ecrire · 10/05/2025 19:33

I mean the OP’s point is -“ I don’t usually hang my knickers for anyone except NDN to see but was surprised to see a neighbours underwear hanging in full display. What do you all think?”

instead we’ve also been told the OP wears bikini briefs and the neighbours pants are “yoooge”. Struggling to see how these info are relevant to the OP!

Shadowsunray · 10/05/2025 19:36

I would hate to have a nosy neighbour who was studying my washing line, checking out my underwear and then posting about it on mumsnet. Maybe that's why you hide yours away, you assume we are all like you.

Endofyear · 10/05/2025 19:37

It's never occurred to me to be worried about anyone seeing my pants on the washing line! They're just clothes 🤷‍♀️

EBearhug · 10/05/2025 19:42

Everyday knickers go on the line, lingerie is inside. I was in the garden in my bikini this afternoon, so M&S knickers on the line shouldn't be too disturbing.

I can't tell you what my neighbours do. They do hang their washing outside, but I don't really look at the details.

CurlewKate · 10/05/2025 19:43

aspidernamedfluffy · 10/05/2025 19:30

Why?

elusiveemz · 10/05/2025 19:44

Mine get hung out.

They're pants. We all (well, most!) Wear them!

MidnightMusing5 · 10/05/2025 19:44

I choose not to, but my neighbour does, and it doesn’t bother me.

ItGhoul · 10/05/2025 19:45

catin8oot5 · 10/05/2025 18:35

I think I would be less inclined to hang out lacy thongs in case I got judged

I cannot imagine ever giving a flying fuck what the neighbours think of my underwear choices. I hang my knickers on the line, always have. That certainly included lacy thongs in the days when I used to wear them.

They’re only knickers. It’s not like people are hanging a ball-gag and a dildo out to dry.

FunMustard · 10/05/2025 19:46

Prude Grin

I too have massive pants, I also hang my minging ancient pants with the sagging elastic and fanny bleach stains out. I DNGAF.

DaisyDukesAuntie · 10/05/2025 19:47

Mumsnet is bonkers today 😂
Yes - shock horror I put my pants on the line

ClassicalQueen · 10/05/2025 19:50

I hang mine out but you wouldn’t be able to see them because of the size and layout of the garden/neighbouring properties.

billybear · 10/05/2025 19:51

big knickers here i fold over on the line and bunch up so they look smaller

Enthusiasticcarrotgrower · 10/05/2025 19:51

I’m with you, OP 😁 I put pants on a clothes horse not on the big line because we’re friendly with the neighbours and it feels weird.
