@Pudmyboy I don't know about military really, but I'm imaginging the wealth and power imbalance being so huge now it honestly feels like David and Goliath. I’s hard to stomach one country with so much more economic and military strength take action against another that’s already struggling. I think they cut off Pakistan's water did I read?

And yet for a small country they keep sending and financing terrorists into India. There is only so much a generally peaceful country can tolerate. People were murdered just because of their religion. Disgusting

Why are people comparing this to Gaza?

Pakistan has 250 million people and nuclear weapons, and China backing them up

coxesorangepippin · 06/05/2025 22:44

Yeah this isn't good

coxesorangepippin · 06/05/2025 22:46

Great post, @MadeleineAllbright

On the water point, India suspended the Indus Water Treaty which sets out how India and Pakistan share the water resources of several rivers. However, India doesn’t actually have the infrastructure it would need to stop water flowing into Pakistan - so for now at least (until they build a load of new dams, which will take many, many years), it’s just a symbolic action.

Pakistan denies any involvement in the terrorist attacks and has called for a neutral investigation.

But why would anybody believe them ?

Where was Bin Laden found. Oh that right, in a big house outside a military base in Pakistan.

JaneFondue · 06/05/2025 22:54

I still have not been told which part of my posts are false exactly. Or where I am wrong in saying that all Western intelligence- not Indian- has flagged state sponsored terrorism by Pakistan.

It’s never okay to be racist, and I think as Brits @OneTaupeSloth we do need to take some ownership for the role the UK played in all this. Partition was badly managed, and it’s heartbreaking to see how it laid the groundwork for so much division and pain between India and Pakistan. It doesn’t mean we’re personally to blame, but we can’t pretend it had nothing to do with us either.

Here we go, knock Britain down again.

Do you know why the USA is so successful? Because they always build themselves up, are not ashamed of their history, are proud to be Americans and every immigrant is encouraged to become a proud American.
We could do well to copy that.

OldDemdike · 06/05/2025 22:57

Just what the world needs right now, another war. More willy waving. FFS.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 06/05/2025 23:02

Time to suspend that £2.3billion we send to India in aid every year.

tobee · 06/05/2025 23:02

It's very important to learn and understand history; and to so in an unbiased a way as possible.

But seriously what is the point of blaming ordinary people living in the U.K. today? Self flagellating for potential past misdemeanours of our leaders. Quick bit of virtue signalling on social media "oh gosh, the U.K. was terrible in the past, I feel so bad."

Namechangedforthis25 · 06/05/2025 23:03

what’s worrying is that these are longstanding tensions coming to a head with nuclear power thrown in, Chinese support to Pakistan, and no doubt Iran somehow being able to access nuclear arms as a result

the engagement of the big red button has never felt closer - one step closer to amargeddon

JaneFondue · 06/05/2025 23:03

India will have US support and Pakistan will have China's. Trump has already said 'it's a shame'. Idiot.

And such interesting timing on India’s part - within hours of the UK-India free trade agreement being announced… Seems they were keen to get that over the line first. Starmer and Co have been played for mugs.

PluckyCheeks · 06/05/2025 23:06

Damn. That means it’ll be popping off in certain areas here.

Mind yourselves!

giddyauntie123 · 06/05/2025 23:10

@tobee @PiggyPigalle

I mostly agree, but you can’t be racist AND pretend Britain had nothing to do with this. Pick one. I was directing that at a vile racist comment, you probably missed it, or it's been deleted by now.

giddyauntie123 · 06/05/2025 23:11

China's got it's eye on all Pakistan's minerals, it doesn't really give a shit about the people

Exactly - the Chinese government despises Muslims & any hint of political Islam, as demonstrated by their genocidal oppression of the Uighurs. They have absolutely zero ideological sympathy with the Pakistani people and the Pakistani state, which is an explicitly Islamist state.

It's people like you that will have Britons a sitting duck target. "Oh it's all our fault " whilst dreamily staring into the middle distance in your comfortable home. NO it is NOT ANYTHING to do with us. Leave it off! And have some respect for your own country.

Thoughts with the millions of innocents in both countries who'll undoubtedly be victims of the conflict.

Pakistan is not a "small country". There are 247 million of them.

They also have nuclear weapons.

I'm so fucking sick to death of war mongering men.

Quite.

You see this all the time.
