Do you take makeup on holiday

I do have a bit of a chuckle at all the tonnes of makeup women's magazines/influencers whoever seem to suggest you should be carting off on holiday. I've never taken any except when I have a wedding to go to while we're away or I've known we're going or are likely to go somewhere formal. At home I only wear it for work or if I'm going out in the evening.

Interested if it's common to take a lot with you or not?

I tend to just take a waterproof mascara, little highlighter, blush and lip gloss. But then once I have a little tan I don't wear any, only on the evenings. I find that sunscreen sweat adds a lovely sheen to my face anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

You must be following/aware of these women so they must be of Interest to you so why are you surprised they take make up on holiday? Surely they will be making content. To answer your question I do take some make up away with me.

FrenchandSaunders · 06/05/2025 08:02

Yes! I don’t wear any during the day on hols but like to wear it in the evening when we’re out for dinner.

Yes I take make up.... don't wear during the day if we'll be by the pool or beach...but do wear it in the evening when we go for dinner

Overthebow · 06/05/2025 08:03

I do t wear makeup usually but holidays are one of the few occasions where I do take some with.

GameOfJones · 06/05/2025 08:03

I take the basics for me. I don't wear loads of makeup but do wear some every day. Normally concealer, mascara, eyeliner and a tinted lip balm. Plus I do take a flannel, face wash and a basic moisturiser with me on holiday.

It's not a big hassle, I've got a wash bag that I keep everything in alongside a roll on, travel hairbrush, mini perfume, toothbrush and a mini toothpaste so I can just grab that one wash bag and chuck it in my bag or case whenever I'm going away.

MattCauthon · 06/05/2025 08:04

Of course I take make up on holiday. You don't take make up because you barely ever wear it. I wear make up regularly so yes, I take it. I wouldn't wear it on the beach but out for dinner, or during the day on a city break, of course.

BillieEilash · 06/05/2025 08:04

Only my absolute basics and probably a little bit of eyeshadow for the evenings, but I'm not a wearer of tonnes of make up in general so it's not a sacrifice for me to take less of it abroad!

skippy67 · 06/05/2025 08:05

Yes I take make up with me on holiday. Big wow.

Fiery30 · 06/05/2025 08:06

I definitely take make up and perhaps apply more than my daily routine- eyeshadow, blush, as I am sightseeing, taking pics, and want to feel and look good. Though, in general, I only apply a couple of things, so its not too much anyway.

BlondiePortz · 06/05/2025 08:06

No but I don't wear it anywhere

autumn1610 · 06/05/2025 08:06

Tend to take eyelash curlers, tinted moisturiser, bronzer mascara and a lipstick like CT pillow talk. Doesn’t exactly take up room and I’ll wear it in the evenings or on a day trip. Beach and pool won’t wear any

MsPug · 06/05/2025 08:07

I'm sure women are having a chuckle at your bare face on holiday op 🙄

3luckystars · 06/05/2025 08:07

Well if a person uses it all the time at home, of course they take it on holidays?

I don’t take hair straighteners on holidays because I have curly hair and never use them.

PoppyBaxter · 06/05/2025 08:08

Yes I take my makeup on holiday! There's no holiday that I'd go on where we wouldn't go out for at least a couple of evening meals and drinks, so I want to get a bit dressed up for those.
My makeup bag is only small and takes up very little space in my luggage.

Chickydoo · 06/05/2025 08:08

Yes, to hide my pigmentation.

Happyinarcon · 06/05/2025 08:09

I take enough for a full face but only one of each category so no variety (I have about 6 blushes to choose from and I take the one I use the most). To be honest I wear more makeup on holiday than at home because I have more time to enjoy it.

IDontHateRainbows · 06/05/2025 08:09

I wear it every day so yes of course I'd take it with me on holiday. Probably get the highlighter/ bronzer out in anticipation of a tan.

Ifailed · 06/05/2025 08:16

I never realised make-up needs a holiday.

We go out for meals every night on holiday and get dressed up but I still don’t wear any makeup.

Bridestone · 06/05/2025 08:20

But you only wear makeup in specific scenarios in your day to day life, so it’s hardly surprising you don’t take any on holiday where those scenarios don’t apply. I wear it daily (rosacea) so obviously I do take it wherever I’m going.

LavenderBlue19 · 06/05/2025 08:20

Yes, I take the basics with me. I wear a bit of make up every day unless I'm ill, why would I not in holiday?

DisapprovingSpaniel · 06/05/2025 08:22

I also don't tend to wear makeup for everyday - just some spf. But I take make up when I go on holiday. Easily enough for a full face with a few options. I may or may not wear it every day (depending on activity) but I take it with me.

Good for you. Don't take it then!

Your post intimidated that by going out for meals and dressing up that make up was needed.
