If you added up all the money you have in savings/ISAs, current accounts etc. how much money would you have in total?

I have £45,000 and I am 47.

OP posts:
HumptyNumptyDumpty · 05/05/2025 20:51

I’m 49. Have £175 in the bank. No savings.

These threads are always mad. How does someone in mid thirties have 350k investments and a paid off house. Assuming 14 years of work that means they've put away at least 50k a year. Unless they're earning v high six figures it doesn't seem possible. Or inheritance I guess?

Why are you asking?

Around 20k in savings plus 130k equity in the house plus pension

Whu · 05/05/2025 21:38

These threads are always people with 500k or people with £3.62.
I never see the point tbh.

Happy for you to quote and ask me directly if you are genuinely curious.

DH is slightly older (3-4 years) and we both work in a niche industry which pays well. His first graduate role was 50k, increasing over 8 years to 100k. Mine was 35k increasing to 60k, with commission paying me between 25-40k extra per year. DH’s company also paid our accommodation, bills and food on expatriate assignments, so we had very few outgoings.

We live fairly frugal lifestyles for our savings and took a cut to have a more settled lifestyle for children & not be sent around the world last minute. We now earn a combined 160k and are saving about 4k a month. We do have nice holidays and visit family abroad.

No inheritance, my parents paid for my wedding dress & DH’s gave us about 3k towards the wedding. As well as a little bit at uni, we have probably been given no more than 5k total from family, which I imagine is significantly less than average.

I appreciate our situation is rare. We are extremely lucky and have also taken lots of risks around work contracts. There was an element of right time, right place. It has left us with limited family support however as we have to be where the work is.

mindutopia · 06/05/2025 09:55

Actual savings sitting in the bank is about £7k.

We have more cash sitting in business accounts, where it stays for tax purposes until we need it. Maybe £100k or so.

Answered then edited as I think this is a pointless excercise.

Can still be seen…

autumn1610 · 06/05/2025 19:50

Just over £5k I think may be £6k at a push. 37 with a mortgage currently single. I’d be screwed if I lost my job basically!

MyLegoHair · 06/05/2025 19:54

Enough. I'm a bit old but not much old. What are we including? Are we including young DC's piggy banks full of coins too, 'cause that would add about £9.50 but I'd have to check.

MissAmbrosia · 06/05/2025 19:57

Quite a lot. Enough to buy a property outright and then some. When we decide in which country to buy one (currently renting). This sounds a bit wanky on the surface, but originally plan was to go back to UK for retirement (DH already retired) but Brexit and all the shit makes us uncertain. First world problem.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/05/2025 19:59

Let's just say I needn't bother selling a kidney.

WorthyOtter · 06/05/2025 19:59

32 and About 18k

Blarn · 06/05/2025 20:04

About 15-16k but 10 of that is in a LISA saving for a house. A few years ago £1000 would have been the very most as long as it was just after payday and every day I am grateful for where we are now. We are 40.

Powderblue1 · 06/05/2025 20:08

39, not alot of savings per se just out emergency pit but around £100k in combined pensions and we own 3 investment properties plus our own home. We still have mortgages but we have £500k in equity across them all

HundredPercentUnsure · 06/05/2025 20:10

What side hustles of you don't mind me asking @sausageupanalley ?

And @Thewholeplaceglitters what private incomes alongside salaries do you you have, if I'm allowed to ask? Do you mean like rental incomes from a BTL sort of thing?

HundredPercentUnsure · 06/05/2025 20:11

@RosieLeaLovesTea I have more than I was born with and probably less than I'll die with.

justkeepswimingswiming · 06/05/2025 20:12

About £300. I just brought a very costly purchase & 3 white goods died on me just before Christmas, need to start saving again!

CeaselesslyIntoThePast · 06/05/2025 20:13

MN heavily biased to wealthier folk. 45% have less than 500 in accessible funds.

That said, even for MN I’m surprised the numbers here have been less than I anticipated.

GarlicPile · 06/05/2025 20:14

WoahThreeAces · 05/05/2025 16:44

Significantly less than zero.
I'm significantly older than 30.

Very much the same here, and very significantly on both counts!
At this age, I don't need a good credit rating - which is just as well, frankly.

Must hunt around for a Chewits wrapper 😄

OverlyLord · 06/05/2025 20:15

£3.7mil

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 06/05/2025 20:16

About 60 quid. Council tax has bounced as has the mortgage and I've no idea what to do. I am not suicidal but I understand why people kill themselves over money.

GarlicPile · 06/05/2025 20:20

Ugh, @DungareesTrombonesDinos Flowers Been there and it's horrid. Do phone them, if you haven't already. Hope this is temporary for you.

KStockHERO · 06/05/2025 20:21

Me and DP do this monthly as part of retirement planning.

Outside of property, pensions and share holdings, on May 1 it was £328,681.

I'm 39.

blindblinds · 06/05/2025 20:29

22 - 600k in different investments
