I got 988 at guess 56 and didn't get TARGET until guess 216!

What do you do if you have more than one 988? You might <something> them. That should get you 995 - you just need to change the ending then...

@InMySpareTime if you have 983s you may <something> them. Begins with the same first letter and is four letters shorter. That should get you 995 then change the ending.
