Anyone worked for someone famous?

I’m working in a company for an influencer/z list celeb. She’s well known in a certain group of people and hangs around with some pretty famous faces. She has her own fashion company.

I don’t report into her, but work closely with her and she is an utter bitch. The way she comes across on social media is so…different. Her intern films her for content daily and she puts on such a smiley show. When the camera is off, she’s rude, demanding, bitches about everyone in the team, including members of the team that go above and beyond to make her business a success and make her happy…I could go on.

she contradicts herself constantly, making me feel like I’m going mad. I know if I died tmrw she wouldn’t care. She cares only about herself and her success. She’s not even nice about her husband, who is such a lovely guy.

I want to get out this company asap. It’s just difficult to know where to go and what to do next so in the meantime…has anyone else experienced similar?

I have lost all respect for this woman. She is awful and everyone that works for her knows it.

I worked as a film publicist years ago and worked with a lot of US stars on press tours, junkets and premieres. My favourites were Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock, Anthony Hopkins, Liam Neeson and Aidan Quinn. My ones to avoid were Kevin Spacey, Steven Seagal and Mark Wahlberg. Most of the directors were reasonable, nearly all of the producers were batshit crazy and every awkward entourage is awkward because of the star’s demands - the star must look down to earth at all costs.

every awkward entourage is awkward because of the star’s demands

exactly. on every thread like this there are always several "star was lovely but their pa/make up artist/entourage/manager were horrible/had a huge list of demands" and I can't believe people are so naive.

What would the (often poorly paid) staff have to gain from inventing a list of random demands/rules the celeb didn't care or know about, which would only make their own lives harder to enforce?

It makes far more sense that the celeb has asked for these things, and the staff are grumpy and stressed because they are the ones having to sort the ridiculous demands while star gets to look like the chill/reasonable one. Even in cases where people have said "entourage said nobody was allowed to even look at star but then star was chatty and friendly" it's likely that star changes their mind depending on their mood (as you can see from the very different accounts of the same celebs on here, some people saying they were horrible and some lovely) and it's their poor staff's job to manage this.

I don't even blame celebs if they do appear stand offish - it's far easier to put a blanket clause in saying 'please don't approach,' but then if you're feeling chatty and the person seems nice to then engage with them, rather than saying 'I'm happy to sign autographs/chat to fans but not for longer than x minutes and not when I'm in a rush or if I'm tired or it's chucking it down or I need to get back to the kids or there's a queue building up behind me or I feel ill....or if the fan seems rude/crazy!'

I saw an actor once saying that they were sleeping on a long-haul flight when a fan prodded them until they woke up to ask for an autograph/selfie, so ever since then I've taken every 'X was horrible and rude' with a pinch of salt because you have absolutely no idea how the person telling the anecdote interacted with said celeb themselves.

Not me, but my Dad - he is a delivery driver and has had a few famous clients. He favourite was Stella McCartney who held the door open for her and he had no idea who she was and just said ‘Thanks love’ after which her PA comes running up all ’do you know who that was, you can’t speak to her like that’. He’s also had tea and gossip with the Duchess of Rutland and shown around their fancy ‘under castle’ garage by the footman.

My elder brother was in Bob's class at school. He was equally mean back then . Also, Paula talked about what a relief it was to be with Michael, because she " Didn't have to earn a living..,"

Boss (years ago) was part of a meeting at Bob and Paula's house, said Bob was incredibly rude to Paula during the meeting with everyone watching.

BippidyBoppety · 25/04/2025 20:56

Adam Garcia (Coyote Ugly) played a charity football match for my local hospital, came to the clubhouse after, drew raffle prizes, chatted and posed for photos with anyone who wanted one. Simply lovely guy www.harrowtimes.co.uk/news/10623251.radio-northwick-park-football-match-raises-more-than-6500/

CatherineCawoodsbestie · 25/04/2025 20:56

@latetothefisting great name btw. Agree with you about snapshot moments and making judgements. You story about the celeb being woken up reminded me of a story - I think it related to Judi Dench - of being followed into the ladies, had said no thank you to an autograph hunter who then pushed the book/paper under the door of the cubicle and asked again. I can’t remember for sure if it was Judi, but the story stuck with me.

I love Judi Dench but I have never met her. My favourite story she told was about a chap calling her a cunt, and she replied ‘That’s Dame Cunt to you.’ Class! 🤣🤣

@Leafy3 , I has a huge crush on Robson when he was in casualty and soldier soldier. 😍

Me too… I still have a bit of a crush now - and seeing your user name I have to ask - don’t you think as he’s aged he bares a resemblance to Scott Bakula?

Not worked for but I've used property belonging to Mike Oldfield.
I was hired to sing for someone (allegedly a love child of George Harrison) and we used Mike Oldfields studio to record the music.

Not me, but my mum was Mike Oldfields gardener.. he was very quiet but was a nice bloke (she eventually quit when she was in the garden one day, and turned around to find a mid sized Lion stood behind her.. he'd forgotten to mentioned it)

I had to look up who that is and don't know the link to my username I'm afraid, but I do agree with you - quite a similarity!

I know someone who worked for Joe Wicks. Complete arsehole apparently.

Sat behind him on a plane. He immediately reclined his seat and didn't put it up for meal service.

Poor form.

He refused all plane food and said no to his kids when they asked for a snack, because as he rold them in a loud performative voice, you've already had a snack. Remember, fruit is a snack.

Treated himself to a g and t though.

Have to watch what wording I use here.....
I work in finance in the motorsport industry (let's leave it there...)
I have met many .... 'participants' in this sport. Worst I have ever met to date, is a current 'participant' for a team who has a principle called after Dorothy's dog in Wizard of Oz (see where I'm going with this?). Anyway, this 'participant' is British... and an absolute nightmare. Clearly never been brought up to treat people with respect, (respect your elders ;) ) and looks down at us mere staff. Once made a comment to a pregnant member of my team and asked her why she was coming back to work, she said she couldn't afford not to, he simply said to her, whilst doing that bloody head tilt, "shame" then sauntered off with his head held high.
Don't get me started on his dodgy GF....

Anyway, I'm still in motorsport, but work elsewhere now where, so far, the more popular 'participants' are very nice and down to Earth.

I knew it! Never been a fan of that "participant". Right up his own arse. Thank you for confirming it. God, I'd love to chat to you, bet you've some tales!

vince · 25/04/2025 21:17

A friend gave Brad Pitt a back wax (must be well over 25 years ago now - I had no idea back then who he was, but she gushed for days afterwards). And that was it- no sack or crack work, for those curious.

ohwhatadustyanswer · 25/04/2025 21:17

I have worked in politics and sorry to report the vast majority of MPs are exactly as bad as you think they are. Egomaniacal, irascible, love to broadcast their own opinions without listening to anyone else, and pretty much all have delusions that they could be prime minister. A few exceptions - Theresa May and Keir Starmer - incapable of normal small talk and dull to be stuck with at a drinks do. But not the typical level of self-regard and pomposity.

I used to do a lot of work for Ginger Gilmour, ex wife of Dave from Pink Floyd. Very demanding and much the perfectionist work wise but, personality wise, really warm and lovely.

I also worked somewhere where a few famous people came in regularly. Fanny Craddock was absolutely awful and I had to try hard not to laugh at her pencil line 'eyebrows' that were drawn on halfway up her forehead. Christopher Timothy was the most rude, arrogant man I've had the misfortune of meeting.

Dominic Wood of 'Dick n Dom' is adorable. So polite and just lovely!

Funnily enough bot my experiences are of these two people. The 'gentelman' in question presented at a local A and E with his daughter who had suffered some kind of minor injury and didn't appreciate the need for triage -and pushed his way to the front of the queue. He asked the nurse 'do you know who I am?'
To her credit she said ' yes....and you can still go to the back of the queue!' The story about the 'chef/cook' was mainly about her waspish sharp edged tongue

Bonnyman84 · 25/04/2025 21:27

Many people being a Z list one myself

Gonners · 25/04/2025 21:28

Status Quo - one was funny and charming the other was rude and arrogant.

I think we're narrowing that one down, because three of them have already been praised for their manners and I can vouch for Andrew Bown (never "Andy" in real life) who was friendly and funny and a thoroughly excellent wine-merchant. He was rarely in the shop, but lived locally. Caveat! This was about 30 years ago, so I suppose he could have had a personality transplant?

ToBeOrNotToBee · 25/04/2025 21:28

I worked in busy London A&E unit for a while and came across a few celebs and athletes. A surprising amount knock a few years of their date of birth, and so so many have drug issues.

Bob geldof is hardly going to be in a great mood when his ex wife, the mother of his children died a tragic death, and then his daughter Pixie geldof also died tragically. Is he?

Of course he's going to be grumpy.

I remember he said once that sometimes when he's out shopping, the grief can hit him so bad, that he runs out to have a cry.

Pixie Geldof is alive and well. It was Peaches who died. And he was a controlling bully to Paula during their relationship.

Lots of people endure tragedies in their lives without being so predictably unpleasant when dealing with normal people. I'm surprised more people don't give his rudeness right back to him.

Newbie999 · 25/04/2025 21:45

Yes I saw that date. She was so rude to
him. It was not necessary to
be such a bitch ……

Missanimosity · 25/04/2025 21:51

Worked for a fairly famous person in a specialised hobby, very rich. Lived in huge masnion, kids shipped to boarding school, parties after parties but all back stabbing bi××es and fake. The wife had someone on the side, family members employed on the "farm" and treated like shit (eating lunch in the car), mansion was leaking so bad they had ( v expensive) towels to catch the drippings and rats the size of cats were rampant that I was afraid to go out in the evening. They were shit talking their parents and theyr in laws after theg were visiting (with me, a stranger!) Her socialite friends were so pumped up you couldn't tell if they were smiling or frowning. I just came to England and I was shocked, I thought all English are like that. All smoke and mirrors and I thanked my lucky stars for my simple, poor and loving parents. Never saw such nastiness within a family since or after, I was so happy when I got out and actually realised English people are really nice and honest, but it put me off at the time big time and I thought what have I done, how can I live my family at home for this shitshow!

I've worked with several over the years, when working in the events industry. My general rule of thumb was that the more famous/known they were the less of an arsehole they were. It was the Z list/wannabe types that were the worse to deal with.

That said, the more famous celebs who were lovely themselves, often had people working for them that were obnoxious, possibly on behalf of their employee.

I was once given a piece of A4 paper, written on both sides, by the staff of a famous singer that had rules such as "don't make eye contact with X", "do not attempt to engage X or their entourage in conversation", "when X walks past, turn and face the opposite direction".

I can confirm that X was themselves lovely, stopped for a chat and to thank me for my work that day, and their head of security asked for tips for local restaurants/bars.

My rule tended to be the longer they have been famous the nicer they were. Purely because people will only put up with being treated like shit for so long.

I found the overnight famers to be the worst.

James Corden’s reputation is interesting. I want to think he is who he appears to be but I really hate anyone who humiliates waiting staff.
I’ve been a waitress and it’s exhausting and you’re at the mercy of the management, the kitchen, the staffing levels, your training. It so hard to achieve a perfect restaurant experience. I think customers should behave with grace wherever possible.

I’ve. Heard he is horrific. James corden

friend regularly works for Dua Lipa and is very complimentary about her as an employer - super professional but compassionate boss.
