Anyone worked for someone famous?

I’m working in a company for an influencer/z list celeb. She’s well known in a certain group of people and hangs around with some pretty famous faces. She has her own fashion company.

I don’t report into her, but work closely with her and she is an utter bitch. The way she comes across on social media is so…different. Her intern films her for content daily and she puts on such a smiley show. When the camera is off, she’s rude, demanding, bitches about everyone in the team, including members of the team that go above and beyond to make her business a success and make her happy…I could go on.

she contradicts herself constantly, making me feel like I’m going mad. I know if I died tmrw she wouldn’t care. She cares only about herself and her success. She’s not even nice about her husband, who is such a lovely guy.

I want to get out this company asap. It’s just difficult to know where to go and what to do next so in the meantime…has anyone else experienced similar?

I have lost all respect for this woman. She is awful and everyone that works for her knows it.

Have to watch what wording I use here.....
I work in finance in the motorsport industry (let's leave it there...)
I have met many .... 'participants' in this sport. Worst I have ever met to date, is a current 'participant' for a team who has a principle called after Dorothy's dog in Wizard of Oz (see where I'm going with this?). Anyway, this 'participant' is British... and an absolute nightmare. Clearly never been brought up to treat people with respect, (respect your elders ;) ) and looks down at us mere staff. Once made a comment to a pregnant member of my team and asked her why she was coming back to work, she said she couldn't afford not to, he simply said to her, whilst doing that bloody head tilt, "shame" then sauntered off with his head held high.
Don't get me started on his dodgy GF....

Anyway, I'm still in motorsport, but work elsewhere now where, so far, the more popular 'participants' are very nice and down to Earth.

Surely not George. There’s nothing to him. He’s so bland.

If so I served her in Woolies once - rude!

Tiger, I like your user name.

To be fair, I don't think she presents herself as warm and fluffy. I've seen a few of her stage shows and she talks about struggling with interactions when she's not well. No excuse to be rude though.

Leave asap OP. A friend worked for someone (known for Dragon’s Den and a football club) and the demands really ruined her mental and physical health and her marriage broke down too. Not worth it. Write a thinly-veiled screenplay about it. “Influencers” really get my goat!

oh no! Not someone that rhymes with Barry devil?

JojoM1981 · 24/04/2025 17:07

I know someone who worked for Joe Wicks. Complete arsehole apparently.

AffIt · 24/04/2025 17:08

Harpey · 24/04/2025 08:15

Many years ago I worked for a woman who is now a well known mental health guru. She was utterly toxic and a narcissist.

Obviously you don't have to confirm or deny, but I'm guessing it was Ruby Wax.

If so, an acquaintance of mine also worked for her for a while and their mental health, ironically, was so damaged by the experience that they took six months out then retrained as an auditor so that they would never have to work in the 'celeb industry' again.

ASNQuery · 24/04/2025 17:10

i was told a story about Nadiya Hussein being a complete diva at a food festival. Really surprised but the events person couldn’t wait to get rid of her after the event was over.

I fact, as a baby I actually... anyway I knew her.

Possiblyfamous · 24/04/2025 17:13

Jessie Wallace was absolutely awful to my teenage daughter, who was waitressing in a local pizza chain restaurant - nasty piece of work

chachahide · 24/04/2025 17:17

I have worked with famous people and they’ve all been lovely, Brian Connelly was very friendly, anton du beke is a gentleman, we did some work for David beckham and he was very laid back and kind with staff.

I know a business owner that Steven Bartlett invested in, in the latest series of dragons’ den, and allegedly he’s all talk. Doesn’t help, doesn’t care and gets what he can. He’s been tempted to go to the papers with how bad he is to his employees as well.

Lewis Hamilton allegedly treated his staff terribly, I met an ex employee at a party, he’d had a few drinks and had been tormented by him!

I’m not surprised by this I find him intensely irritating and am glad he’s not on my tv much anymore!

Bloozie · 24/04/2025 17:20

I have worked WITH quite a few famous people.

Tony Robinson, Dame Judi Dench, Jane Horrocks and Max Beesley are absolutely lovely.

I wouldn't want to share the people I've worked with that haven't been, because I only met them once and it's unfair to judge their whole character based on one day. As someone else has said, being famous is hard.

I am however happy to speak ill of the dead and say that Sir Patrick Moore was so rude to me, he made me cry, and while I have never met him I've never heard anyone say a good word about Robbie Williams - I've heard an absolute shit tonne of horror stories that are very believable.

An interesting test of famous people is where they eat when they're working. With the crew - always lovely. Squirrelling off to a roped off area VIP table - dicks.

Flicitytricity · 24/04/2025 17:20

My proudest claim to fame was Tony Benn buying me breakfast ( a bacon sarnie and cup of tea) on a train journey.
He was lovely, and we chatted non stop for an hour and a half😁

I can confirm that Robson Green is a wonderful human being.

What about his daughter? She died more recently of a drugs overdose. You left that one out.

Losing your child is meant to be the strongest grief anyone can go through.

I know someone who's son killed himself. I've never seen her smile since it happened.

I can understand why Bob geldof is grumpy.

I met him before his daughter passed away and he was an arseholery then.

You actually peed on her? Or similar?
It can't be as bad as what we are now imagining - or can it?

I worked for a famous therapist quack who has made millions on selling bullshit theories. When projects started to show no conclusive evidence to support her methodology she sacked most of those staff and replaced them with sales people instead just to keep flogging her books, shows and online courses. Her episode on Diary of a CEO was just pure bogus.

Oo give us a clue

Picle · 24/04/2025 17:32

Yes, a well known multi billionaire. Not naming on here but the person was/is very down to earth and drives normal old cars despite being able to buy any car wanted.

CherryRipe1 · 24/04/2025 17:32

@Lazlothevampire
My old housemate was in an indie band during Blur's early day before they hit the big time. Blur supported his band a few times and he said they were a bunch of utter entitled wankers who knew they were destined for fame.
One for the oldies like me, my mum worked for Sasha Distel and Maurice Chevalier as a personal assistant when they were in the UK as she was very fluent in French. She said both were delightful. My Auntie worked for Charles Lawton (,hunchback of Notre Dame etc) & said he and his wife were very nice.

Gardeningleaverocks · 24/04/2025 17:36

During covid I worked for test and trace, one of my roles within this was to speak to all people who had travelled abroad and had come back to the UK, spoke to many famous people, politicians as well as Lords and Ladies. The majority were lovely and would chat for a while, however one the very worse was a Dame who was the most vile person, shouted over me when asked questions, told me to mind my own business, she wasn't going to tell me any personal info, was just a generally horrible person, in the end I said that's fine the police will come and check you are where you should be, the language would turn the air blue! A few days later she was reported in the paper complaining about being harassed by T and T, I do wonder if it wassme or another she was talking about

Another was a surgeon, who was famous, who was dreadful
and kept saying I earn more money in one day than you will see your life time, I kept saying well that's nice for you, he hated that I wouldn't get angry and kept being bubbly and polite.

I've had two female managers that were bullies. One time I was so close to crashing my car into a tree just to not go to work, I basically had a breakdown because of the bullying. The second one played favourites, belittled me in front of people, left an email I had sent on my desk with 'corrections' on because I hadn't written it the way she wrote hers (she wss rude in hers). It put me right off working for a female manager.

My current manager is male and he's absolutely wonderful, so calm, never a bad word, never criticises, very understanding and compassionate, has empathy and always finds ways to make work life better.

I agree with this. The majority of women bosses I've had have been bullies in one way or another. Most recent one took credit for my work and was power hungry.

My best bosses have both been men.

I have to go on peoples land at short notice for utility work. Got a call saying we had a major fault and famous footballer had denied access. Went to see him and he ripped me to bits. Swore at me, continued to deny access and eventually when he took a breath I managed to slip in that we had a right to go on his land and if he continued to deny access we were coming on with a police escort. At that point he caved. He’s considered a nice man when he does his tv punditry.

Second footballer, rang the bell on his gate, came down to the gate let me in, chatted was lovely. Didn’t recognise him but figured it out later.

Both footballers sent their kids to the local primary school before going private. Friends mother works in the school. Footballer 1 picked up his kid one day, mobbed by the kids and next day a memo came out, no one to approach, no one to speak to him.

Second footballer same thing, mobbed by kids, played football signed shirts, took pics and was lovely to staff and parents.

TicTac80 · 24/04/2025 17:40

Bit of a different scenario, as I'm a nurse, but I have met some celebs when they've either been patients (or visiting patients) on my ward (an NHS ward). They've all been very polite and lovely. For obvious reasons, I won't say who they are!

I used to see Paul McCartney quite a bit - he sailed at the same place as I did (when I was a lot younger). Very nice, approachable guy and very down to earth - no airs and graces etc.

FamilyPhoto · 24/04/2025 12:12

My dad was a session musician in the 70s and 80s - most of the people he worked with were fine, BUT he didnt have a good word for Van Morrison.

They say there’s two kinds of people- those who like Van Morrison, and those who’ve met him.

samarrange · 24/04/2025 17:47

A family member knows a few celebs:

  • Helen Lederer (less on TV these days) is apparently as bitchy as the characters she plays
  • Jack Dee is as miserable as his onstage persona
  • Keith Richards goes on demos to protest about the closure of local hospitals.

A few PP mentioned Take That. My favourite story about them is when most of the band were getting into trouble with various dodgy tax avoidance schemes, it was revealed that Jason Orange still kept all of his money in the same current account with the Co-Op bank where he used to deposit his wages from his pre-fame job. He was getting something like 0.1% interest and owned no investments whatsoever.
