I used to love Cadbury… years ago, now it just has no flavour it’s waxy almost and just the texture everything is off, I like Tony’s and green and black isn’t bad, galaxy I’ve never like too sweet, what’s a good chocolate for a treat?

Ritter sport

E. Widele too. The hazelnut bar is divine.

Aldi Moser Roth

Another vote for Aldi. The 70% Moser Roth in the purple packaging.

Turmerictolly · 22/04/2025 23:02

I also really like the Waitrose own brand chocolate. The 75% cocoa one is thick and snappy - very satisfying and not as sweet as Green and Blacks. There’s also a nice chocolate bar at the tills at Hotel Chocolat that comes in milk or dark chocolate. It has tiny bits of sour cherry in and is delicious and almost all of the price goes to the local producer (it’s not cheap though- about £3.50).

Ritter! Alpine Milk especially though like the Cashew one too. Cornflakes and white hazelnut also favourites of mine. To be honest I've never met a Ritter bar I didn't enjoy .

BestIsWest · 22/04/2025 23:07

I like Ritter dark with hazelnuts or marzipan but I’ve discovered this weekend it triggers my oral lichen planus. Bugger. It’s already stopped me eating milk chocolate.

That sour cherry bar at Hotrl Chocolate is lovely @Turmerictolly . The whisky, amaretto and espresso martini truffles are quite nice too.

Carpo chocolate is gorgeous. Also Birley

Coco.

That’s bad.
Dates will be my choice then and honey.

Still like Cadburys, the Wispa are very good, Flake and Twirl are also v good

tartyflette · 22/04/2025 23:27

Ritter Sport is good, everyday chocolate -- there are several varieties but I'm not sure if they are all available here.
Lots of different types bars, boxes, filled are available at Hotel Chocolat, the brand is expensive but worth it for gifts and special occasions, I think.

ScrambledSmegs · 22/04/2025 23:30

Montezumas is great, I love the dark chocolate buttons. Divine is also good but harder to get my hands on these days. Chococo for lovely boxed chocolates. I think the trick is to read the back and go for the ones that have a shorter list of recognisable ingredients.

(My stomach really doesn't like soya lecithin and it seems to be in the majority of mass produced chocolate now. Other lecithins aren't great either but soya is the worst. I worry about the weird stuff we put in foods these days, what the hell are they doing to our insides?)

Neverenoughbiscuits · 22/04/2025 23:30

M & S for me too. I love the one with pretzel in it. I can't eat Cadbury any more, just tastes and feels like lard in your mouth.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 22/04/2025 23:33

I like Lindt milk and Tony’s chocoloney

Dairymilkisminging · 22/04/2025 23:34

Obviously not dairy milk.

WomensRightsRenegade · 22/04/2025 23:44

What was done to Cadburys chocolate is a tragedy. I find it completely inedible - and when even their crème eggs fell too!!

Sady Toblerone, Lindt, Galaxy and Terry’s chocolate orange have also followed suit. Along with Quality Street.

I cannot believe anyone buys them more than once!

Twillywoowooo · 22/04/2025 23:47

I won a Kit Kat Easter egg. The egg was inedible. Absolutely rotten and I’ve pretty low standards. Never again.

LeopardPants · 22/04/2025 23:47

Montezuma is my favourite- love the chocolate buttons and truffles 😍 ate my way through about £50 worth in about a week recently 🙈 it was a post baby treat to myself so I don’t feel guilty!

Daisymay2 · 22/04/2025 23:52

Lindt 70% or 84% , mint or raspberry intense. Waitrose 70% is good and Lidl do a decent dark chocolate bar.
Tesco used to be good but the had a new recipe about 12-18 months ago- not nice IMO.

bendmeoverbackwards · 23/04/2025 00:05

I don’t get the Cadbury hate on here, still tastes good to me.

Love Aldi chocolate (the chunky one), Ritter and M&S. Currently scoffing Hotel Chocolat ‘sandwich’ (half price after Easter), the praline one, yum 😋

Dubai Chocolate!

I am kidding.
I still like Lindt with the sea salt.

I’ve not tried that but having the salt sounds so good!

I think Waitrose No 1 is the best on the high street. I don't mind a green and blacks almond though from the corner shop if I'm desperate.

Things may have changed in 18 months but this page offers some guidance:

I think I'll buy Tony's more in the future. I just wish Sainsbury's took palm and rapeseed oil out of their chocolate hazelnut spread (which is otherwise a nice dupe for Nutella).

Palm Oil Free Chocolate | Ethical Consumer

How to avoid chocolate brands that use palm oil Chocolate does not usually contain palm oil. However, it is commonly filled with biscuit and other such fillings, and so palm oil is still used by companies in a lot of chocolate bars and boxes. In our sh...
