Dh’s friend was 49 when she had her child.

Just wondered what age you know of for people to have their first, conceived without help.

I was 42 having first and only and colleague of 43 was having second. A few years later my 47 year old colleague conceived and gave birth naturally.

A friend of mine conceived one child at 43 and another a year later at 44 (was 45) when baby was born. Natural, no IVF or fertility assistance, and no complications. Though she knows she was extremely fortunate

My Gran was 44 when she had my Dad but he wasn’t her first.

First naturally conceived ones - my cousin was 41 and two friends were 42.

Genetically, though, the chances of having a first or subsequent baby at 45+ would not necessarily be that different.

Eggs is eggs. Having 5 previous babies won’t help shore up egg quality post 42-ish. It’s a pretty damning genetic picture after that age.

euqlally, if it turns out your eggs are fine and plentiful but you don’t meet your partner till 40, then you might still have a decent chance.

vast majority of eggs are genetically defunct after about age 43/44.

Friend, first and only baby @ 43.

Intranslation · 21/04/2025 23:43

There will be quite a few as late to motherhood as I was who had 'menopause babies'. A case of just could not conceive by any means, gave up and then wish granted 😀

My granny was 45 when she had her last. I know some others in their early forties, don't know anyone who was over 45.

Beth8307 · 21/04/2025 23:50

I’m 41 and found out today.

Online384 · 21/04/2025 23:52

MIL was 42 when she had DH. He's the youngest of 6 and 20 yrs between the oldest and youngest siblings.

Similar for us. My GM was 43 when she had my dad. He’s the youngest of six and 20 years between him and his oldest sibling.

My great-grandmother was fifty when she had my grandfather. Youngest of seven.

DazedAndConfused321 · 22/04/2025 00:03

47, her husband was a totally reformed former drug addict, but the damage had already been done to his body- so they had it confirmed it was almost impossible to conceive. However, he was also a secret severe alcoholic and when he secretly cut down on the drink, they conceived. Very complex situation, they're now seperated and he isn't involved in their DDs life. But their DD is now a pre-teen and a total sweetheart, very loved and homeschooled by her retired mum.
