What song brings you right back to your youthful happiness ?

I'll get the ball rolling.
Just driven home, car radio on and up popped a song that brought me right back to a really happy time of my life.

I Can Make You Feel Good 1982 by Shalamar. I was 23 years old and this was my anthem for that year. I've got it on repeat now and I've got all my old photos out too from that period.

Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet album of 1986 - I played it so much the cassette tape started to get a bit scratchy!

Also John Farnham’s You’re The Voice of 1986 was huge Down Under - still love that song.

Martha and the vandellas..one way out.
Aberdeen music hall Northern soul all niters early 80s.

StScholastica · 15/04/2025 19:34

Read it wrong, thought you said songbird.......that would be skylark!

Actual song would probably be " I'd like to teach the world to sing" or anything by Elvis.

Absolute favourites:
West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys.
Summer of ‘69 by Bryan Adams.

Loads of 80’s release songs by Madonna, Eurythmics, Bon Jovi and Pet Shop Boys were amongst my favourites at that time.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 15/04/2025 20:17

The Top Gun soundtrack and also the Dirty Dancing soundtrack albums. Used to play them driving home from work. A job I enjoyed, the time spanned the years of engagement/early marriage to DH. Just a nice time of my life 😊.

Great replies everyone who's posted......lots of songs for me to investigate on YouTube.
I must admit the one that stood out for me is West End Girls ....Pet Shop Boys.
Absolutely loved that , especially the video that went with it. Brilliant.

Keep them coming.

‘Ain’t nobody’ by Chaka Khan - always takes me back carefree sunny days 😁

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/04/2025 20:23

So many - but I remember once sitting in the laundrette at a Haven holiday camp ( my D Parents had taken DS and DD to the beach - they were 4 and 6) and DH was working so he hadn't come with us ( before anyone asks why I got laundry duty)😆

Party Fears Two by The Associates came on the radio and straight off took me back to the early 80s

mrshoho · 15/04/2025 20:32

Great thread, so so many from the 1980's bring me right back. The story of the blues by Wah. Happy days.

BlackSheepThisYear · 15/04/2025 20:34

One week by The Barenaked Ladies, Sunday Shining by Finlay Quaye 😁

Springhassprungxx · 15/04/2025 20:35

Four non blonds - What's Up?

skipdiddyskip · 15/04/2025 20:38

We Found Love by Rihanna or Paradise by Cold Play.

I was young, in the best shape of my life, going out partying every night, getting chatted up all the time, top of my class at uni.

Life was never boring then and I had so little responsibility!

IWanderedLonely · 15/04/2025 20:41

Anything by Adam and the Ants or Come On Eileen.
Xxx

This lovely song was played every summer throughout my childhood.

Just hearing it brings back memories of endless school holidays and beautiful weather.

This Charming Man.

Reminds me of being at Manchester Polytechnic. And the whole Manchester/Hacienda thing. Like dying and going to heaven! And for some reason the hot summer of 84, although l think it came out in 83.

Also Aztec Camwra.

Thanks for your post, can't get the accompanying video to play. You'll have to name the song.

So many, although Born Slippy takes me right back to my very happy early 20s.

GeorgianaM · 15/04/2025 22:46

@Tolkienista

In the summertime by Mungo Jerry.

Yiayoula · 26/04/2025 02:44

Hey Jude
Crimson and Clover

1968 was a very good year !

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 26/04/2025 02:49

Electric dreams I loved 1984 even though I was only 12. Was the first and only year my sibling treated me as a human being

LardoBurrows · 26/04/2025 03:46

The long hot summer of 1976 and my then boyfriend introduced me to Jackson Browne's new album, The Pretender, blew my mind. I was young, slim, in love and having lots of great sex, with no responsibilities, those were the days.

The boyfriend didn't last, but my love for Jackson Browne did and I still have my original LP.

ExitViaGiftShop · 26/04/2025 07:34

Mark morrison - return of the Mack. Reminds me of summer in the 90s.

Empress13 · 26/04/2025 07:39

Oh too many to mention ! I was an 80’s girl best era for music IMO! Loved the diversity from disco to New Romantic so good
