Working 9-5 no. I worked in healthcare until my breakdown. Shifts were more like 7am-9pm, 3 or 4 days per week.

Sunday roasts. No. I cook a roast if we fancy it regardless of the day.

Annual holiday Nope.

Saturday night tv We watch some of the Saturday night TV, but not necessarily on a Saturday.

3 meals a day nope.

CozyCoupe · 14/04/2025 21:09

No
Yes
No
No
Yes - ish

In that order

Echobelly · 14/04/2025 21:09

Yes and no.

Yes, I work 9-5

If you're talking about Sunday roast in terms of British Tradition, while I love a roast, no because we're Jewish and do you know how much kosher beef costs?! Being Jewish also makes our lives different from most Brits in that Christmas is not a thing for us and we have several festivals on which to get round to being with one another's family, which removes what appears to be a big source of stress for those who do celebrate!

OnBoardTheHeartOfGold · 14/04/2025 21:10

This looks like an interesting thread.
Do you, op?
I’m from a different culture and I’ve combined cultures and I don’t conform to a typical life in either.
We do work normal weekday working hours but dh works long hrs and I work part time.
Weekends are free for socialising and seeing family
If we’re at home on Sunday we usually roast marinated chicken with potatoes and veg because you can stick it in the oven and get on with other things.
Holidays a couple of times a year and lots of days out.
Hate Saturday night tv. We’ll watch a film though.
Tend to eat 2 meals a day and snacks. I think 3 healthy meals a day would probably be better!

Doublechins · 14/04/2025 21:11

No to all of those

EveryOtherNameTaken · 14/04/2025 21:12

Working 9-5 - yes
Sunday roasts - fortnightly because I love it
Annual holiday - no
Saturday night tv - no
3 meals a day - no. Have 2

SwanOfThoseThings · 14/04/2025 21:12

I wouldn't call your list a particularly good definition of 'conventional life' in 2025. In the late 20th Century it would be a fair definition, but the people who stick to those traditions and are able to work 9-5 have been getting rarer and rarer since the turn of the millennium.

Pandimoanymum · 14/04/2025 21:13

No to all of them.
Life as a child growing up in the 70s & 80s was very much like that, though.

Ratisshortforratthew · 14/04/2025 21:13

Nope. I work freelance which is sometimes 9-5 but I try not to work more than 4 days a week, less if I can, and often work only 3-4 hours a day at weird times.

Sunday roasts - only very occasionally at a pub like twice a year. Have never cooked a roast in my life, I hate cooking and don’t intend to. Any kind of dinner party is my idea of hell if I have to host it.

Annual holiday - many annual holidays. Being freelance I can work from anywhere so I travel and work at the same time as much as possible. Last year I think I was away for 9 weeks in total (not all in one block) and this year I’m travelling over the whole summer. Sometimes I go solo, sometimes my partner comes.

Saturday night TV - no, I only really watch horror films, MAFS or eastenders. A weird combo I know! I prefer to draw while listening to a podcast.

3 meals a day - yes, most of the time unless my schedule gets in the way.

Arlanymor · 14/04/2025 21:14

Interesting question!

Working 9-5 - I work full time, but rarely is it 9-5, I sometimes work evenings and weekends and work is equally flexible so that I get the time back in TOIL

Sunday roasts - no, my parents go out for a Sunday roast every week, but they're retired on a joint pension and can afford it. I eat out less often and to be honest with the summer months coming the last thing I want to eat of a lunchtime is a big meal.

Annual holiday - nope, not currently affordable. I live in a seaside city and people come and visit me instead and we holiday at home.

Saturday night tv - definitely not, I only really watch catch up and rarely on a Saturday night, I don't wait for TV episodes to become available either.

3 meals a day - no I'm not a breakfast person - earliest I eat is midmorning, earlier makes me feel a bit sick. I eat when I'm hungry.

So 'no' across the board then, I guess!

frozendaisy · 14/04/2025 21:16

Working - no I am a creative and swan around basically doing what I want when I feel like it

Sunday roasts - in the cooler months yes, teens love them, as it gets dark outside kitchen windows steam, listen to 6music, homework and board games, chat and crosswords, it’s feel good family time and I drink a glass of red during the process

Yes to at least one holiday - it feeds our souls to go to at least one new place every year.

Saturday night tv - no it’s why streaming was invented! Happy to watch something but “family entertainment” is not our thing

3 meals a day - nope liquids until afternoon, something easy nuts fruit, home cooked something in the evenings

Xmasbaby11 · 14/04/2025 21:16

Yes to all of them apart from the TV as I just watch on catch up any evening that suits, and I don’t like typical Sat night TV. Married with 2dc and it works for us.

tillyandmilly · 14/04/2025 21:17

Working 9-5 - Yes
Sunday roasts - No and never! Xmas maybe
Annual holiday - 1 week
Saturday night tv - don't watch tv
3 meals a day - no - only 2

Peawhack · 14/04/2025 21:17

Billyoceanscar · 14/04/2025 21:00

Working 9-5
Sunday roasts
Annual holiday
Saturday night tv
3 meals a day

I'm really interested to hear about people who do life differently

I work 8-6 4 days a week.

I don’t have roast dinners, i eat the same thing almost every day. Grapes for breakfast, 2x boiled eggs and some cucumber for lunch. Then my evening meal is either chicken or salmon with veg or salad.

Haven’t been on holiday abroad in almost a decade. I am going way in the caravan to York in October for a short break though.

I don’t watch Saturday night tv, I don’t really watch much tv. I prefer reading.

I do have 3 meals a day yes but no snacking or pudding etc.

Ahsheeit · 14/04/2025 21:20

Working 9-5 - I do 8-4 at home through choice
Sunday roasts - nah, big faff
Annual holiday - nope, go see my kids a couple of times a year
Saturday night tv - bag of shite
3 meals a day - 2 meals generally, when I'm hungry

MyIvyGrows · 14/04/2025 21:22

Work 9-5: mostly, with some night shifts or longer days or weekends.

Sunday roast: if my parents are visiting, or I visit them, or occasionally if I go out. Preferable in autumn/winter, I can rarely be arsed when it’s warmer.

Holiday: multiple shorter breaks rather than “two weeks in the sun”

Saturday night tv: nope

3 meals a day: mostly yes.

DazedAndConfused321 · 14/04/2025 21:22

Yes and no, I'm a 'tradwife' so unconventionally conventional. Used to have a 6 figure salary working in central London, now I cook and clean and raise babies and serve my husband

mamaduckbone · 14/04/2025 21:25

Sort of...
9-5 - longer than that (more like 7.30-5.30) in term time but I'm a teacher so get the hols.
Roast - not every week but yes if we fancy it
Annual holiday - yes, but only abroad in the past 3-4 years. Before that it was always uk and lots of camping.
Saturday night TV - not really. We don't watch any reality TV.
3 meals a day - yes

ShapedLikeAPastry · 14/04/2025 21:26

Working 9-5 - not really, I work flexibly and mainly from home

Sunday roasts - very rarely (but I do like them!)

Annual holiday - well, we go away every year but not a "traditional' 2-week package holiday. This year we're doing part of the NC500 in our camper van, and going to NYC for a long weekend later in the year

Saturday night tv - if you mean eg: Ant & Dec or BGT, absolutely not

3 meals a day - nope, we both do IF so haven't eaten breakfast in years

Ponderingwindow · 14/04/2025 21:27

We have office jobs and from the outside we look fairly traditional. The reality is that we don’t fit in very well at all. We are an autistic household and we just pretend to the outside world.

we have been mostly wfh for about 20 years

2 people in my household have arfid. Food and meals are loosely defined. As long as everyone gets enough to eat, I worry about balancing nutrition over the week, not at a meal or even a day.

Traveling on holiday is stressful. We prefer short excursions and saving up for the occasional splurge with extra comfort built in. We still take time off, but we don’t need to travel to feel rested and refreshed.

Saturday night tv? I don’t know what airs on sat night? I never seem to be watching the same things as other people. We don’t watch sport or reality television. We watch a decent amount of television, but mostly it’s niche.

food. See above.

Daffodilsarefading · 14/04/2025 21:28

Yes to working mainly 9-5
No to Sunday roast but we sometimes have one mid week.
Annual holiday- we go several times a year.
Saturday night tv- we watch tv but sometimes put a film on.
3 meals a day- sometimes. Often I have 2 plus snacks.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 14/04/2025 21:28

No to all of them.

StIgantius · 14/04/2025 21:31

Billyoceanscar · 14/04/2025 21:00

Working 9-5
Sunday roasts
Annual holiday
Saturday night tv
3 meals a day

I'm really interested to hear about people who do life differently

Work is more like 8-6 most days, but I can also take time off when I like.

Sunday roasts- yes, quite often. I love cooking.

Holidays- we have a home in the country so tend to go there for long breaks. Then maybe a few other shorter breaks to other places.

Saturday TV- not really. Definitely not the standard stuff, we might watch a film if we are in.

Meals- 2 most days.

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 14/04/2025 21:32

No I don't do any of those things.

I don't even sleep according to modern conventions as my sleep is biphasic.

Neverenoughbiscuits · 14/04/2025 21:34

Don't work 9-5 - I WFH and am currently PT and do hours that fit around me.

Love a Sunday roast and will cook one around once a month

We tend to have a week or two holiday a year. This year we've had a 5 day European city break and we've got a week walking in August.

I don't watch TV but more likely to have a film on a Saturday night if we do.

I don't eat breakfast. I like to have a decent meal at lunch and a smaller one at dinner. Don't really snack.

Not really sure what you mean by conventional tbh. We have 4 DC, a mortgage, two cars, happy marriage etc. In that sense we're very conventional but, as with most people, I'm sure there are things we do which operate outside of the norms - out every night for instance.
