Working 9-5
Sunday roasts
Annual holiday
Saturday night tv
3 meals a day

I'm really interested to hear about people who do life differently

I’m a musician so work the opposite of 9-5 😂

Don’t have roasts often.

don’t watch Saturday night tv (working almost always)

2 meals a day

try and have a holiday but not always due to being freelance. No work no pay etc.

savuni27 · 15/04/2025 00:20

Work - flexibly between 7am - 7pm.
Roast - I love a roast but I don’t have one on a Sunday.
Annual holiday - absolutely, sometimes 1 long one or several shorter weekends or a mix of both!
Saturday night tv - nope
3 meals - no, it varies, sometimes I might have 1, sometimes I might eat 6!

Passtheduchess · 15/04/2025 00:29

Working 9-5 - Noooo, far from it.
Sunday roasts - Once a year, maybe
Annual holiday - last year a month, year before 5 days, this year, not sure yet.
Saturday night tv - Nope, but is live tv even a thing any more?
3 meals a day - no - sometimes 4, sometimes one, depends on how busy the day is and my hunger. Some days I’m ravenous, sometimes I barely need anything.

VexedOfKin · 15/04/2025 00:30

Working 9-5: No, 'core hours' during the school day + planning and prepping in evenings and on weekends
Sunday roasts: Not if I can help it. We don't tend to mark Sunday as a special day on terms of food.
Annual holiday: Camping in the UK, no more flying for us.
Saturday night tv: No TV at all.
3 meals a day: Rarely eat breakfast, keep my eating between noon and 8pm.
Not sure how 'differently' I do things, we just live as frugally and low environmental impact as we can.

Candlekiax · 15/04/2025 00:35

I think working a conventional 9-5 would break me, I work 12 hour shifts, 4 on, 4 off.
Sunday roasts aren't a thing in our house, we might have a once a month roast on a Thursday just because we fancy one
Annual holiday is my idea of hell.
Saturday night TV, actually that's my other idea of hell.
3 meals a day, I've usually eaten 3 meals by lunchtime.

cartepane · 15/04/2025 01:51

Working 9-5
No, I'm not employed but make money online.

Sunday roasts
Occasionally, but it's not a Sunday thing, we just happen to roast a chicken on that day

Annual holiday
About 5 holidays a year

Saturday night tv
No TV

3 meals a day
Yes

IberianBird · 15/04/2025 02:25

Working 9-5 -ish. I'm self employed so try to keep standard office hours but I'll quite happily have a long lunch and work in the evening.

Sunday roast - no. Never cooked one and they don't particularly interest me

Annual holiday - we do lots of weekend breaks and a week here and there.

Saturday night tv - no, we're usually out on a weekend

3 meals a day - no, probably 2 and snacks.

Interesting examples of a conventional life!

jen337 · 15/04/2025 02:54

Working 9-5 - more or less but flexi
Sunday roasts - occasionally when the mood takes us, last thing I want to do is spend hours on Sunday cooking eating and washing up, so Sunday is for any old crap/snacks/leftovers. We eat well during the week though.
Annual holiday - several short breaks (work in education).
Saturday night tv - hell no
3 meals a day - 2, no breakfast.

Exhaustedtiredneedabreak · 15/04/2025 06:53

Yes to all, but the roast only in the winter

DottyV · 15/04/2025 06:55

Working 9-5- kind of but usually flexible
Sunday roasts- yes (didn't think of this as being conventional in 2025?)
Annual holiday- yes
Saturday night tv- no
3 meals a day- yes

Working 9-5
Sunday roasts
Annual holiday
Saturday night tv
3 meals a day

Working 9-5 - not really but only because I work flexibly from home. I’m online from 7am til 4pm Monday to Thursday, plus back online some evenings once DS is in bed.

Sunday roasts - no, never. usually spaghetti bolognese or fajitas.

Annual holiday - several trips a year, a couple of city breaks abroad, a couple of weekend caravan breaks, maybe one longer caravan break, and maybe a week abroad in an all inclusive resort.

Saturday night tv - nope, hate it.

3 meals a day - no, I fast. One meal a day. DS skips breakfast and sometimes lunch.

That said, nothing about my life feels unconventional at all.

CountryShepherd · 15/04/2025 07:26

Work 9 - 5ish at home, flexible
Roast every Sunday all year (all down to DH, buying, cooking and clearing up!)
Annual summer holiday- yes and now have a spring break too
Not much live TV watching any day of the week though DH is a Strictly fan and prefers that live!
2 meals a day for me and no snacks (DH and DD have standard 3)

WinterFoxes · 15/04/2025 07:31

9-5 Never. I'm nearly retired and all my life I've had jobs with odd working hours. 9-5 in an office gives me the chills. Don't know why.

Sunday roast - yes, love them. My idea of heaven is family gathered around the table, good food and wine then a long walk. But usually not very trad. Doing middle Eastern lamb for Easter.

Annual holiday - not sure what you mean. I try to have a holiday every year, but never to the same place.

Saturday night TV - again not sure what this means. DH and I watch far too much TV but not Strictly/Traitor/Bake off. Usually Netflix dramas.

3 meals a day... yes. Sometimes skip breakfast but usually eat at regular times

We live in quite a trad area where it's church on Sunday, then everyone out to wash the car and mow the lawn. We're outliers round here. 😁

OlderYearsIsBest · 15/04/2025 07:35

Conventional? Nah....forget that.
I'm older and now single and I love it; I no longer have to conform to anything. Bliss.
I work 12 hours a week - just enough to keep extra money coming in but without work being the main feature of my life.

I eat what I like, when I like. If I fancy a roast I make it, even if it's 3am. But I rarely fancy roast dinners these days, and I delight in the fact that I don't have to cook for anyone else's tastes either.
Generally I eat 2 meals a day. I don't need three meals as I'm less active and I just don't fancy the food. And I don't drink alcohol...can't stand the stuff. I don't care what anyone thinks, my life etc., etc.

Yes, I watch TV. Whenever I fancy it. Prefer documentaries and news channels these days, can't stand bloody dramas and never watch soaps. However, I do have a TV in the bedroom. If I can't sleep at night I've found endless repeats of Escape to the Country on iPlayer extremely soporific and guaranteed to send me off...!

Holidays? Well, I've travelled the world in my time and even lived abroad at one point, so I don't care for it these days. Love going to stay with old friends in other parts of the country though. I've never booked a holiday which consists of endless sunbathing on the beach or beside a pool. I can't think of anything more boring....

faerietales · 15/04/2025 07:44

I don’t do any of those things.

GameOfJones · 15/04/2025 07:45

From that list I'm pretty traditional! Got married and then had two children with DH. Live in the suburbs.

Working 9-5 yes. Both DH and I have office jobs.

Sunday roasts. Not every week but I do love a roast, so do them frequently in the colder months.

Annual holiday yes. At least one holiday in summer but often one at Easter or a half term too. Not necessarily for a week, or abroad and may just be a Mon-Fri UK caravan holiday but we do get away every year.

Saturday night TV yes if something is on we want to watch. I find it quite useful now DDs are a little bit older (primary school age) that we can watch "family entertainment" together e.g. Gladiators or The Masked Singer. If there isn't anything we want to watch, we will put a film on.

3 meals a day is the one I don't do. I have two meals a day as I do intermittent fasting so just black coffee and water in the morning, then lunch and dinner. But DDs do have 3 meals a day (plus a couple of snacks)

andtheworldrollson · 15/04/2025 07:53

If you called it “typical” or “average” I think that would be ok, but calling it “conventional “ seems to be adding negative connotations somehow

why?

BitOutOfPractice · 15/04/2025 07:56

Working 9-5: no. Self employed for 25+ years. I work far more than that.
Sunday roasts: not often. Usually only when the DSC are round
Annual holiday: far more than that!
Saturday night tv: nope. Usually out.
3 meals a day: yes. Except at weekends. Then it’s 2.

What an interesting thread. Growing up in the 70s I think everyone would have said yes to everything. Life is much less structured now. Which has its pros and cons I think.

JustShhhhh · 15/04/2025 08:13

Working 9-5: sort of, we can be more flexible so tend to do 8-4

Sunday roasts: occasionally- I like cooking and eating them but we don't have them every week

Annual holiday: more than one usually, tend to have one abroad and a couple in the UK. Tend to be self catered and in a caravan.

Saturday night tv: depends on what's on- gladiators/masked singer are favourites.

3 meals a day - yes

So.... I guess I do 😆

Giggorata · 15/04/2025 10:27

Not really, no. I'm retired now, but my hours were flexible and I rarely worked early as 9, only if there were big meetings or training or similar.

DH likes a Sunday roast, so we do that sometimes. Or a weekday roast.

No annual holidays as such. We used to go away to our cottage and take other short breaks here and there. I go to pagan camps and festivals in summer.

No Saturday night TV. There's never anything that appeals. We are more likely to stream things we want to watch individually or read and listen to music.

We usually have two meals a day, brunch and dinner. I'm going through a cooking phase at the moment, but when I get fed up with it, I won't cook for a while. DH will take over, and then in the hot weather, we'll just have cold meats and salads.

Comedycook · 15/04/2025 10:30

I don't work

I eat a roast meal when I feel like it

Have a holiday once a year... sometimes more, sometimes less.

Don't eat three meals a day....never have

Not a big fan of Saturday night tv

mondaytosunday · 15/04/2025 10:36

I dint know anyone who eats three meals a day! At least not from teenage years. Usually it’s two.
añso know very few who work 9-5. My son probably only one as he works in retail. Most everyone else is self employed so set their own hours, or work shifts etc.
Sunday roasts: we did this when kids were young and my DH was alive (he cooked it) and my parents would come every Sunday.
Most people I know take several smaller holidays. We can afford one abroad every other year plus a mini break in UK.
Saturday night TV - yes.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 15/04/2025 10:38

Really?! I think pretty much everyone I know eats 3 meals a day unless they are currently doing that fasting thing!

BobbyBiscuits · 15/04/2025 10:40

That sounds quite old fashioned, I doubt many people have Sunday roast every week.
I wish I did tbh! But no way am I cooking it and can't afford the pub.
I don't do any of those things at all.
But I've always been a bit different. I think its just my personality or maybe my mental state?!
