Working 9-5
Sunday roasts
Annual holiday
Saturday night tv
3 meals a day

I'm really interested to hear about people who do life differently

OP posts:

No to all of them

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 15/04/2025 12:04

I WFH 9-11 in my bed with the dog on my feet. WOH three times a week, 4-10pm (I;m an author so I write in the mornings every day and work outside to bump up the earnings because royalties can vary so much).

Sunday roast - no. I live alone and cooking a roast just for me is a waste of time. I will sometimes make one if any of the kids are coming round for dinner though.

Annual holiday - nope. Might get a research trip in, and sometimes get out to Oz to visit a DD, but not annually and not a proper 'planned' holiday.

Saturday night TV - no. I watch mostly YouTube stuff, occasionally I go through IPlayer and watch something I've missed or that I love (big shout out to Ghosts which has got me through some tough times).

3 meals a day - no. On work days I eat muesli at about 2pm and then a meal when I get home at 10.30, on non WOH days I eat one meal at about 6pm.

I don't consider that I'm 'unconventional', it's just that my life hasn't followed a traditional pattern. I'm an ordinary 64 year old woman with a house and a dog and a job that's a bit outside the norm, that's all.

Missey85 · 15/04/2025 12:37

None of the above 😊 I fail the test

Arancia · 15/04/2025 13:07

Working 9-5
No. I have a job where I can mostly decide when to place my hours. I also work from home at least two days a week.

Sunday roasts
They are not a thing in the country I'm from.

Annual holiday
I travel a lot, but I don't travel in the summer, and I generally avoid travelling in high seasons.

Saturday night tv
No, I generally don't watch TV.

3 meals a day
No, I eat twice a day: breakfast and dinner. I find lunch to be such a pointless meal...

HRTQueen · 15/04/2025 13:10

Working 9-5 - Yes
Sunday roasts - No
Annual holiday - Yes
Saturday night tv - More likely Netflix
3 meals a day - No as I am on Mounjaro

I had a childhood where I always stood and hated it out I am happy not to be different as an adult

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 15/04/2025 13:12

i eat when and if im hungry, not when the clock tells me is a meal time. If im not hungry , i dont eat.

I eat meals at pretty standard meal times, not because the clock tells me to, but because on week days they fit into my working day (and I eat lunch with my lovely colleagues) and at the weekend we eat together as a family. Plus, the timings of the three meals usually mean people are hungry by the time the next meal is about due. For me, eating together is important. The idea of everyone just eating on their own whenever seems a bit miserable to me!

Myengagementring · 15/04/2025 13:23

I work 8 - 4.45 Mon - Thu and 8-12 Friday
We have a roast every Sunday except in Summer when its too hot
We have multiple city breaks a year with one main summer beach holiday in August
We watch Saturday Night TV
I eat 3 meals a day but may have a light healthy snack mid afternoon if I am hungry

Gettingbysomehow · 15/04/2025 13:24

I don't live a conventional life apart from my healthcare job. I need that to pay for my lifestyle so I'm Miss Conventional during the day.
Outside work I live in Glastonbury and I'm an occultist, Glastonbury is home to alternative religions. So I'm involved in various groups to do with that and the lifestyle here.
I spent many years living abroad and travelling round Europe on my motorbike but now I'm in my 60s I rescue cats. So no holidays for me as I can't leave them for more than a few days and definitely no roasts I am vegetarian.
I was single mum to my DS in his 40's who himself lives an alternative life in Wales.
We do have our own homes though. It's the ultimate freedom not to waste money on rent and I'm too old for a yurt.

Do people still watch Saturday night TV?

LlynTegid · 15/04/2025 13:43

Working 9-5- no but 8-4 is not much different.
Sunday roasts- no.
Annual holiday- not really as I only have one week off at any one time, I have three separate holidays planned.
Saturday night tv- no
3 meals a day- yes.

Callosity · 15/04/2025 21:52

Growing up in the 60s/70s, I’d say that my parents would have conformed to this.
There was always a Sunday roast dinner, and I’m sure the tv would have been on throughout Saturday evening.
Annual holidays would have been to the West Country. Rarely overseas.

Even before I retired, I was never a 9-5, as I worked freelance.
I’m not sure if I’m a three meals a day person, as breakfast tends to be two black coffees, and sometimes a piece of fruit or toast.
We do stick to an evening meal, all together (whoever is in the house), at the dining table. No phones allowed.
Occasionally there might be a Sunday roast, but cooked and planned by my husband, as I don’t eat meat.
TV - no. I tend to stream programs when I want to see a specific thing.

greatvisuals · 15/04/2025 22:16

I kind of do but only because I have to do it for childrens meals and fit around school hours/holidays at the moment.

Left to my own devices I only really have one proper meal a day which would be a big home cooked stew or roast or curry. All other food is an egg, a yogurt, a banana, a handful of dates etc.

My job is supposed to be 9-5 but I do it at all hours and actually just do my communications between usual hours as that's expected.

I can garden from 9am till dark then need to sleep for 2 days to get over the hard labour.

I really wish I could totally orchestrate my own life. But - the earning of money has to happen 😄

Kardamyli2 · 15/04/2025 23:16

No, I don't do any of those things.

I tend to work the hours I want to, or sometimes have to, as I'm a contractor who takes on specific projects.
Rarely have a roast on a Sunday as we're usually out doing something active and no time to cook something time intensive.
We have several holidays most years.
Rarely watch TV, and definitely not "Saturday night tv"
Might have 1, 2, 3 or 4 meals a day depending on how the mood takes me.

mindingmyown37 · 15/04/2025 23:32

Work 8-12/1 as I’m also a carer for my son.
don’t have Sunday roasts every Sunday maybe once a month and not really in summer. Used to have it every Sunday up until about 9 years ago but our family grew and it got 2 expensive.
have an annual holiday every year, usually in May as it’s less busy for DS although he’s decided he doesn’t want to come this year so my mums caring for him.
I used to love Saturday night tv, not the same nowadays, apart from a few select programmes I can take it or leave it.
never had 3 meals a day, if I have breakfast I won’t have lunch, only dinner. If I don’t have breakfast I usually just have lunch and then dinner.

SchrodingersTwat2 · 16/04/2025 00:17

Working 9-5
No. PT to fit around being a carer.

Sunday roasts
No. Not religious so Sunday isn't a special day. We do have roasts in the week sometimes.

Annual holiday
No

Saturday night tv
No and never have. Didn't watch it much as a child then didn't have a TV as a young adult.

3 meals a day
Often a late breakfast then tea, so 2.
