Mrsgreen100 · 14/04/2025 21:37

Nope
never have , never will
self employed for most of my adult life
what’s a weekend

BejewelledCat · 14/04/2025 21:37

Working 9-5 - I work full time but due to disabilities, I work different hours.

Sunday roasts - never. I eat the same onba Sunday as I do every other day of the week.

Annual holiday - no. Last holiday was 2016.

Saturday night tv - no, not had a TV in my house for 13 years and don't miss it.

3 meals a day - no, I do IF so typically, my eating window doesn't allow for 3 meals

Scottishskifun · 14/04/2025 21:40

The only one I conform to is having a holiday!
I work full time but flexible working so usually 7.30 - 4, sometimes later sometimes earlier.

Never have a Sunday roast, I do cook a roast chicken during the week but it's in a air fryer so takes 30ish minutes and it's with salads or greens etc.

I intermittent fast each day (16/8) so don't eat 3 meals - I have 2 meals plus snacks if I want them in my eating window.

Waitingfordoggo · 14/04/2025 21:41

No to all except annual holiday- but these vary, might be lots of short breaks or a couple of longer trips. Might be abroad/UK/city break/camping/hotel/beach holiday and at various different times of year so no fixed type.

CriminalCoffee · 14/04/2025 21:46

Working 9-5 - no
Sunday roasts - sometimes. Not religiously and rarely in summer.
Annual holiday - hmmm. I mean we do usually have some kind of break but I could live without it.
Saturday night tv - god no.
3 meals a day - yes, usually.

frogpigdonkey · 14/04/2025 21:52

Working 9-5 no, I do 2 days a week and live on that quite happily
Sunday roasts- yes when I am home, either as a guest or a host- as family take it in turns to cook and whoever is around shows up, love it more for the fellowship than the food but I love a good roast too
Annual holiday- absolutely not, 4-6 holidays a year, it’s my biggest expense and joy. Mix of uk and global and quite hobby focused
Saturday night Tv- occasionally, love a bit of Strictly
3 meals a day- no, on Mounjaro right now but realised in the pandemic that left to my own devices I eat at 10am and 4 pm and am very happy with that. Sadly that fits into no social schedule at all so I compromise

FlatErica · 14/04/2025 21:52

No to all of them. Also, I don’t know how to drive.

Chapterhouse11 · 14/04/2025 21:53

Working, no. I work 11:30-13:30 Mon - Fri. I'm hoping to get a full-time role soon, though.

Roast, no. Only on the sundays we visit the in laws. We never do one at home.

Saturday night tv. No. Never. Well, unless Doctor Who is on. I'll sit and watch that on a Saturday night. Otherwise, nope.

Annual holiday. Yes. Try to have one abroad holiday a year. Usually south of france for a week to ten days.

butterflycr · 14/04/2025 21:57

I don't think your description of 'conventional life' is quite accurate OP, judging by the number of people who do few, if any of those things.

Perhaps your list would have been conventional in the 80's/90's but it's not the norm now.

Bubbletrain · 14/04/2025 22:04

Absolutely not. I'm a SAHM of 5 kids, 3 boys with ASD. We don't have a TV license. We're taking our first flight this summer, previously we haven't ventured outside of the UK, for my own sanity I need to know I can drive home if my boys aren't coping. Sunday roasts are rare, though we will be having a roast for Easter Sunday!

guineapigsears · 14/04/2025 22:08

Working 9-5: no, I work whatever way I want as long as my work is kept up to date. I can do it at midnight or 2pm.

Sunday roasts: only if my mother is cooking it.

Annual holiday: numerous - at least 5.

Saturday night tv: I can’t remember the last time I watched tv.

3 meals a day: absolutely not. 1 a day for me. 2 for husband. 3 for children.

WhineAndWine1 · 14/04/2025 22:10

Working 9-5 - Yes both of us
Sunday roasts - Not really only a few times a year
annual holiday - Yes
Saturday night tv- some times
3 meals a day - no

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 14/04/2025 22:13

I would have said that I led a fairly conventional life, yes. But -

Worked PT since having DC and now retired (I think that’s fairly conventional for my age group actually as we got a mortgage before two FT incomes needed)

No Sunday roasts as I don’t eat meat. More likely to have a takeaway in the evening. Used to go out for a roast dinner most Sundays when DC young though.

Annual holiday - always managed to have more than one holiday but never done the traditional package.

TV - more likely to watch a film or box set or I read whilst DH watches sport

3 meals a day - yes, but often have additional snacks, and tend to eat at fairly irregular times.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 14/04/2025 22:15

Working 9-5 - Not exactly, but nearly.
Sunday roasts - Occasionally
Annual holiday - Yes. Never a package holiday though.
Saturday night tv - Well we watch a series most nighhts. We don't just switch on the tv and watch whatever is on, and we wouldn't watch in Saturday specifically any more than other days.
3 meals a day - Yes.

NewtPond · 14/04/2025 22:16

I think I lead a very conventional life, but I don’t do any of that stuff, and I don’t think I know anyone who does — on what basis did you decide that was the norm?

MeliusMoriQuamServire · 14/04/2025 22:17

9-5 no. I work for myself and do it when needed, but start no earlier than 11am. I'm an owl and like to work later.

Roasts - no.

Holidays? If it's sun/beach/all inclusive type of thing and/or camping - never. Hate it. Otherwise I have one 2-month holiday a year in summer, followed by a three-week one in winter and then 3-4 shorter breaks abroad during the year. Never in the UK, I don't count being in UK as holidays, because it's boring, same-y, shit weather, shit service, horrid food and extremely overpriced for the level of comfort/service you get.

Saturday night TV - no. I do watch a movie or go to the cinema, if not otherwise occupied.

Eat once a day. No snacks. Twice sometimes, if hungrier (usually before period).

Bouledeneige · 14/04/2025 22:18

I work more than 9-5. I’m divorced, I frequently holiday on my own, walking and exploring. I rarely cook a roast - but would go to a pub for one. My two adult kids have bounced back home after university. When we are all in we eat together and play card games. Sometimes Saturday TV sometimes out with friends.

Kneeslikethese · 14/04/2025 22:18

Kind of..

Working 9-5. - I work part time between the hours of 8 and 6.30pm 4 week days.

Sunday roasts - yes but not every Sunday. We do all make sure we all sit down as a family to eat on Sundays though.

Annual holiday - yes, finances permitting.

Saturday night tv - not Saturday night take out or whatever but we do sit down to watch tv together in the evening

3 meals a day - yes. Breakfast, lunch and tea. I (female) cook most of the meals as I work less hours.
I probably do more housework than dh for the same reason but he does his fair share of housework and running around ferrying the teenagers about. I guess we're quite a traditional family?

CarpetKnees · 14/04/2025 22:18

Working 9-5 No

Sunday roasts No

Annual holiday Yes, well that is the 'norm'. Do sometimes add in a cheeky weekend or few days as well

Saturday night tv No

3 meals a day Yes

But I agree with pps - I don't think this is a reflection of "conventional life", or typical life in the 21st Century.

Fgdvevfvdvfbdv · 14/04/2025 22:20

Working 9-5 - no

Sunday roasts - no

Annual holiday - not every year, no.

Saturday night tv - yes

3 meals a day - yes

ItGhoul · 14/04/2025 22:21

Billyoceanscar · 14/04/2025 21:00

Working 9-5
Sunday roasts
Annual holiday
Saturday night tv
3 meals a day

I'm really interested to hear about people who do life differently

I don’t work exactly 9-5, because I can work flexibly and mostly at home. But I work similar hours to that. I only go to the office one day a week.

Occasionally have a roast on Sunday but not often, and never at lunchtime unless we’ve gone out for it. To be honest I’m usually not even out of bed before 11am on a Sunday.

I have more than one holiday a year. Not at peak holiday times though. We haven’t got kids so we don’t have to go to family friendly places or stick to school holidays, thank god.

Saturday night TV? If you mean the prime-time family shows, then no, absolutely not. I might watch some TV on a Saturday evening, but if I do, it’s more likely to be Netflix. But I’m usually listening to podcasts or reading. I do watch Match of the Day more often than not.

I don’t eat three meals a day. Mornings are not my time and I don’t do breakfast.

GettingMySpringOn · 14/04/2025 22:22

Work 9/5 No , I do much less. Dh more

Sunday roasts , yes except the odd occasion when we don't fancy it.

Annual holiday , yes but mostly UK

Saturday night tv. Not in particular

3 meals. Dcs do , dh has lunch and dinner. I tend to skip lunch but snack

BuzzYourGirlfriendWoof · 14/04/2025 22:24

Work, not 9-5 presently, but was before children.

Sunday roast - yes, excepting the summer months. That being said, we’re being wild this week and having one tomorrow (kids have friends over and I know they’ll all eat it!)

Annual holiday….we go away quite a lot each year. I’m unconventional in the sense I’d pick a skiing holiday over a sunny beach holiday given the choice.

Saturday night TV…more so in the winter as we enjoy Strictly, but even that has dwindled in recent years.

Yes to 3 meals a day.

Pieceofpurplesky · 14/04/2025 22:27

Working 9-5 - no I’m a teacher so different hours.

Sunday roasts - Maybe if DS is home from university - but would be on a Saturday evening .

Annual holiday - tend to do lots of shorter mini breaks and maybe one longer one, nothing set in stone - it depends which way the wind is blowing!

Saturday night tv - no. I rarely watch normal TV and am either reading or watching a movie/box set

3 meals a day - no. I don’t eat breakfast, have a lunch and maybe toast later in the evening. My eating habits are all over the place at the moment, due to work and caring for elderly parents

Billyoceanscar · 14/04/2025 22:28

I got my 'conventional' list from my childhood. My parents, who i love dearly, still very much believe this is the way of life. As such, I get asked every Sunday 'what's for dinner' .. erm takeaway !
Life is very much 24/7 nowadays.

To answer my own questions :
I work flexibly and can do this at any time, as long as the work is done
Love a roast in the winter but I hate with a passion the clearing up. It takes so long, and can be 2 dishwasher loads (I refuse to do any by hand)
Holiday as many times as we can throughout the year
Sat night tv seems to be the norm where I live. I cannot stand any of it. To quote someone up thread "bag of shite"
I eat as and when. We all eat different meals at different times. We have a lot of takeaways/ eat out.
