I’d imagine there will be another one after this one too.

FionnulaTheCooler · 14/04/2025 20:38

I think Nick Frost and Paul Whitehouse will be great. I'm less sure about John Lithgow, I wish they had gone for a British actor and I'm not sure he has the gravitas to pull it off. I've never heard of the other ones.

Can't they fucking read? Wrong Snape. What happened to faithful to the books? Read the character descriptions.

angelinawasrobbed · 15/04/2025 08:54

They need a complete contrast to the amazing Alan Rickman though.

Why?

Missey85 · 15/04/2025 09:06

BlackeyedSusan · 15/04/2025 09:00

Why?

Because you need someone that doesn't look like a Temu version of Alan they need a different take on him

Would you like for someone to reserect Alan from his grave?

Alan rickman was awful as snape. Way too old and and completely hammed it up.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/04/2025 10:16

alan Rickman was iconic

Getting an actor that looks like the description in the book would help. Alan was too old but was pretty close to book description in other respects. (Snape had a miserable life so probably looked older than mid thirties anyway)

honestly not trying to start anything here, because I quite like the casting of PE too (on the basis that he's actually the right age rather than 30 years too old, as per the movies, and AR was so iconic that anyone similar would struggle to do anything with the role that didn't come across like a weak cos-play, so casting someone who looks completely different allows for a new interpretation which will be more interesting, also having a black actor works with the 'outsider in both worlds' part of Snape's character).

but what's your interpretation of 'as faithful to the book as they promise.' i.e. what elements can be changed and what are non-negotiable?

Because if you are happy with the PE casting (and, again, I have no issue with it), surely you accept that that already is quite a huge departure from the books in terms of Snape's physical appearance, which is repeatedly described as pale, greasy hair, etc.

lunaswand · 15/04/2025 12:33

I think the casting of the character should be in line with the book.

I wonder what they will do with the casting of Harry Potter

RaspberryRipple2 · 15/04/2025 12:36

I don’t really feel like whether or not Snape has ‘sallow’ skin is critical to the character (though it can also just mean unhealthy looking). I assume he will have long greasy hair. I’m also expecting that they will probably cast a black hermione. I feel like they really need to go with talent for this though with looks secondary, as some of the acting from the children was pretty poor in the movies which basically ruined it.
