For women who are rocking their 40s and beyond

Disturbia81 · 13/04/2025 16:39

There’s so many threads on here where women talk so negatively about being 40s and beyond, even seen a few in mid 30s talking negatively about themselves. How youth is everything, how they are past it, how they feel invisible.
So I just wanted to start a positive thread about this time in our lives to try and combat some of the stereotypes and make each other feel good.

I feel more confident than I ever have
Kids are older
I know myself so well
I spend my time better
I love my looks more than I ever have
Love clothes more
I’m kickass at my job (low paid but ah well)
I get more attention from both men and women
I feel more visible and more like a proper adult
Sex is better
Get asked out more
I care more about people but give less of a fuck what people think of me
I know what’s important in life after losing several people
Physically fitter than I’ve ever been
Inner peace and acceptance

Anyone else!? 🖤

100% everything you’ve just said! I was actually thinking about this this morning because it’s my 40th Birthday on Tuesday.

I feel great, look great, have it together for the first time in years. Life is good 😊

jellyfishperiwinkle · 13/04/2025 17:05

Yes I love it too. Much better than 30s, but tbh I've enjoyed every age for what it is.

findingnibbles · 13/04/2025 17:09

Seems a bit off to slag people off not being positive enough because they feel unattractive / down about aging, then boast about being such a positive person because you keep getting hit on and are hotter than ever 😂

ThisMustBeMyDream · 13/04/2025 17:12

I feel like you do pretty much. I was 40 in November and I feel so much happier with myself and who I am these days.

TheProvincialLady · 13/04/2025 17:13

People pay less attention to me in the street (thank God) but they also pay a LOT more attention to me at work.

I just don’t care as much about so many things that used to grieve me, like my appearance or whether someone likes me.

Lots more money.

WhatMe123 · 13/04/2025 17:16

Becoming 40 has literally changed my view on life over night. I simply don't give two f&&ks now 😂 it's liberating.

RosesAndHellebores · 13/04/2025 17:18

I'm 64.
I have always loved life.
I have always seen the silver linings.
Still work full-time.
Moving into the next phase.
Have always looked after my hair and teeth although am two Stones heavier than in my prime.
Standing up straight, smiling and comfortable shoes not scruffy trainers take one far.

Disturbia81 · 13/04/2025 17:33

Love these positive vibes! ♥️
I love getting wiser
I love being someone who younger people look to for advice and comfort

I agree with this.
It's good to hear positive things about getting older, especially given a lot of the ageist opinions on MN.
But there's a fine line between being positive about something and coming over as just plain boastful.

Semiramide · 13/04/2025 17:55

Wait till you get to 60 or 70..... that's when all the good work you do in your 30s, 40s, 50s REALLY pays off!

Eating healthy, exercising, being generally active, having lots of interests, nurturing relationship, building a career...

I’m trying to build muscle to help me in my old age as keep hearing we should do that, sometimes it’s hard to motivate ourselves to plan for the future decades.

Seeing the silver linings really helps get through the hard times doesn’t it?
I’ve lost a lot of people death wise, some young and it really helps you try and see the positives of life while we’re here. Life is short.

Same! You couldn’t pay me to go back to the insecurity of my 20s 😂

Glad others feel it too 🖤 There’s so much negativity on here about aging so just wanted to give each other a boost.

Happy Birthday for tuesday! 🥳🖤 I was a little nervous about turning 40 but it’s my best decade so far!

Oh yes, working out with weights/dumbbells is a game changer. Try Caroline Girvan- free on YouTube. Growingannanas is also excellent, though more cardio/HIIT based.

I'm 71. I ski, ice skate, cycle, swim, hike, p,ay tennis... Totally worth it.

BobbyBiscuits · 13/04/2025 18:27

I don't actually hate my looks as much as I used to.
I know my strengths and weaknesses.
I follow instructions a bit better.
I feel a lot more knowledgeable.

2025mustbebetter · 13/04/2025 18:32

I felt most amazing at 40. Fit healthy and well off!

Things haven't really gone well for me since I turned 41. Menopause has hit hard and financially we are screwed. I have put on 4 stone. 2 of my kids are now teens and that's way harder than I thought it would be.

Life has been difficult so I think I'm allowed to be down about it!

My 40s were hmmm 🤔 not brilliant! Not terrible either. But loving my 50s!!!!!
hrt helped
feeling more self love which is key!

Worriedsickmostofthetime · 13/04/2025 18:37

I read a quote today that said ‘I am the softest and most ruthless I have ever been’

It resonated so much with me and made me reflect on the years I have lived to get to a point where I am proud to have established relationships that count and put up boundaries without guilt. 20 or 30 year old me put up with so much that 40 year old me just would not.

You are, of course you are. We hear the negatives a lot though especially on here so just wanted a space for the positives. To make women approaching their 40s not feel utter dread and for the women who are enjoying this decade to not feel weird for doing so.

I’m 56 and love my shiny hair and pretty face, I love that I find it easy to make friends.
I also love hanging out with this great person I know who is really funny and never gets bored…myself.

polkaloca · 13/04/2025 18:41

I don't feel old or worried about my looks. It's having dc approaching the teenager years & the cost of living that is stressing me. Never have had so much money going through my fingers so quickly!

Ditto! That’s exactly how I feel.. ruthless in ignoring the shit and not doing things I don’t want to, not letting people take advantage etc. But softer towards good people, the disadvantaged in society, more caring. It’s really nice.
