What pans do you have?

We desperately need some new pans. We’ve had so many pan sets since 2010 and I’m fed up of them wearing out. My MIL has had the same set of pans since she got married around 40 years ago and they’re still going strong! I want a set that does that. So recommend me some pans that’ll outlive me (I’m 33 btw)

I just bought a set of non-stick pans from ProCook. So far I am very pleased with them.

The ones I’m about to toss out are ProCook, their anodised ones. They’ve never had anything metal near them and only ever been handwashed. They’ve barely any coating left in them! Absolute rubbish.

Stellar - had them for nearly 40 years. My grandparents bought them for us as a wedding present. They still look as good as new.

We inherited DH grandmothers Le creuset set which are still going strong! Occasionally I have a look at lighter ones though.

RampantIvy · 12/04/2025 11:07

Scoville Neverstick.

Philandbill · 12/04/2025 11:08

Very old Le Cruset from a time when I had no children and a well paid job. Very heavy but the pans are thirty years old and I have no plans to replace them unless my wrists give out....

AnotherHappyCamper · 12/04/2025 11:09

Stainless steel. Don't buy non stick as it just doesn't have that kind of longevity.

Ours are quite cheap, can't remember where we got them, but perfectly good quality. Will upgrade someday and probably buy a set from Le Creuset or Mauviel.

The most important thing is that they have a good, thick base.

For roasting and/or stews we have a couple of le creuset cast iron and also some enamelled trays and two smaller pots from Emma Bridgewater.

rainbowunicorn · 12/04/2025 11:20

Dont go with non stick. Get stainless steel. We have a mix of prestige and some from ikea.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 12/04/2025 11:22

I had Le Crueset once and hated them 🤣 luckily I got them really cheap off FB marketplace so just sold them on when I found some new ones. They were so heavy, I burned everything I made in them and I didn’t like that they had solid lids. Give me a glass lidded pan any day of the week!

They do actual pans too, in stainless steel (which I'm going to get at some point), not just the cast iron which is heavy. It also depends on what kind of cooking you tend to do.

Enamelled pans are much lighter but still very durable.

AnotherHappyCamper · 12/04/2025 11:26

Again the most important thing you need to look for is a good, thick, solid base.

AnotherHappyCamper · 12/04/2025 11:28

IKEA is probably a good place to get good quality workhorse pieces.

AnotherHappyCamper · 12/04/2025 11:31

Omg so many comments, sorry 🙄🙄 I also generally think it's better to pick single pans/pots to make up your own set, or at least just stick to smaller sets like 3 or 4 pieces - otherwise you end up with some filler pieces that you don't really use much.

I'm in the mood for shopping now! 😀

My friend has just bought some lovely, good quality ones ... Always pan and Perfect pot

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 12/04/2025 11:35

Hexclad ones - albeit VERY pricey, look amazing 🙌

Baggyprincess · 12/04/2025 11:39

Straight sided (easier for sauce making/mashing), stainless steel. Mine are over 30 years old and still going strong, they were from John Lewis. I would choose them all over again. You can buy them individually or they have sets https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-classic-stainless-steel-lidded-saucepan-set-3-piece/p2647369

Hadalifeonce · 12/04/2025 11:42

I have had Cuisinox saucepans since the early 80s. They still look good, and despite, over the years, having all kinds of stuff burn dry, they always clean up.

I was tempted by these and would’ve happily put them on the credit card. Unfortunately I’ve read too many negative reviews about the coating coming off soon after purchase.

I think we’ll be going stainless steel this time, even though I’d much prefer non stick it just doesn’t last.

Thanks all! Lots of recommendations to look at 😃 Hopefully I’ll have a lovely new set of pans soon that may actually last!

Me too! Had them slightly less time than you but they are approaching the 30 year mark.
they are fantastic and look as good as the day we bought them.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/04/2025 12:11

IKEA 365 stockpot.
The £25 steel pans from Argos I bought in 1994 look as good as new.

Other than that, a circulon wok was a waste of money - lasted longer than any other wok, but DP still managed to trash it within 2 years.

The latest is a Ninja nonstick deep frying pan. He's doing his best to knacker that as well, but he's only managed to blacken the underside so far.

AnotherHappyCamper · 12/04/2025 12:13

If you get the heating process right stainless steel becomes non stick too - it's a doddle once you're used to it.

Jennalong · 12/04/2025 12:18

Woll pans . They are German made and have had them at least 15 years .

roses2 · 12/04/2025 12:19

I have a set of Circulon infinite which have a lifetime warranty. I made a claim last month on two pans and they sent me replacements.

Avoid Fissler as they don't honour their 5 year guarantee. My 2 year old non stick wore off and they told me I used it at too high a temperature - it's a freaking saucepan!

Sortalike · 12/04/2025 12:23

On our second set of pans in 10 years. Current set are Denby and absolutely rubbish despite hand washing, and only using plastic or silicone utensils. I cook from scratch daily and should have replaced the John Lewis wedding present pans with my first choice of stainless steel.

DParents have prestige stainless steel copper bottomed pans that are probably 40 years old. Still in perfect nick, so when I replace mine, that's what I'm going for.
