What would you serve with pulled pork?

I was thinking brioche buns, coleslaw, salad, but I need other ideas because it seems a bit dull. 😊

Would like some simple pudding ideas too please, but nothing with meringue. Thanks.

Potato skins filled with the innards mashed with cheese/cream cheese and oven baked to make the top golden., Coleslaw, sweetcorn/corn on the cob

In terms of texture - pulled pork is a mush.
As much as mac n cheese sounds great it will be an enormous pile of mush on plates.

Get fresh coleslaw so it is crunchy.
Corn on the cob is ok
And obviously, since we are in MN, get some nice warm crusty bread.
Jokes aside it will be a good base for pork and great texture difference.

If you want to experiment go with canned beans, spinatch, tomato and corn salad with vinager dressing. It is quite fresh

Last time I did pulled pork (which was a while ago), I served it with jalapeno cornbread and an interesting coleslaw that involved red onions and apples, but I've forgotten the rest of the ingredients - sorry! Pudding was Rick Stein's Mexican rice pudding with honeycomb and mango.

Kaiser buns

Cole slaw & salad
Baked spuds with sour cream
Corn

We keep it simple. We love pulled pork but for some reason I haven't made it in years. My mouth is watering for it now.
Think I will be on the lookout for some pork butt.

pickled red onions (lime, salt, sugar, red wine vinegar to pickle)
salsa verde
corn tortillas as well as bread in case people prefer less carb
guacamole
salad
charred corn salad
sweet potato

TiredEyesToday · 09/04/2025 22:25

how about cheesecake with a very sharp fruit coulis or a key lime pie for desert?

A peplum dress and gin in mason jars.

TuckedUpInBedWithAPackOfCremeEggs · 09/04/2025 22:26

We do:
soft baps
apple sauce
stuffing
coleslaw

I usually have ours with chicken burgers, I sometimes find pulled pork a little sickly so the chicken balances it out a little.

I love pulled pork, I like it in mini soft tacos, with pink pickled onions, salad, guacamole, home made salsa.
I cook it in the oven on low with ginger beer, chipotle or ancho chilli paste, garlic, paprika, cumin, etc
Or if I'm not going to be home in the slow cooker but you don't get the crispy bits

This is how we would have it too, with a charred corn and mango salsa 👌

Ineffable23 · 09/04/2025 22:36

I like the bread to have some crust for pulled pork, because the pork itself has such a soft texture that I want a textural contrast with the bread.

Tigerlilian · 10/04/2025 08:00

Same as you but with buttered new potatoes and Apple sauce.

DancingDucks · 10/04/2025 10:58

Thanks all, fab ideas. I love to get new ideas for food on MN.

We do baps, salad, coleslaw, potato salad and mac and cheese

DancingDucks · 11/04/2025 09:52

Not that this is a very interesting update but I always feel like I'm being rude if I don't update a thread that I started. 😂

We had pulled pork, brioche buns, soft rolls, corn on the cob, coleslaw, apple sauce, sweet potato fries, salad and pickles. Pud was a lemon cheesecake or ice cream & fresh fruit salad. I was hoping for a day of leftovers today but everything was demolished. Thanks again for the ideas, next time I really want to try it with the jalapeno cornbread that @Inextremis suggested.

Normal buns not brioche and a good selection of salads, chutneys and cheese as an alternative filling to the pork for anyone who doesn't like it.

This - brioche buns are too sweet!

For me it would depend what flavour of pulled pork. I make something I call sugared pork, which is marinated in plenty of brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, a squeeze of tomato puree. I serve that with home made coleslaw, lots of different salads, home made potato salad and bread rolls usually. Sometimes I do jacket potatoes but not usually. It's an easy meal for a family celebration, my son in law asked for it for his birthday last year.

I sometimes do a slow cooked pork belly which just pulls apart - that isn't flavoured with anything and I just serve that with home made apple sauce (vats of it - my family guzzle it) bread rolls and home made coleslaw.

I would probably have an easy lemon cheesecake afterwards (the filling is just cream cheese, sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and zest all whisked together) or some home made strawberry compote with good vanilla ice cream (I also serve with meringue but you said no meringues). ,

We are both old and crumbly, and I am receiving treatment for cancer, so I can't stand and cook for very long and I only do easy food or things which can be prepared in advance nowadays.
