At a farm café... naturally. And daughter is on special diet, so she was eating her packed lunch. And she went to eat her apple ...I found my self saying "oh darling, let me wash your apple, it's got brioche crumbs all over it"

What a dick I am 🤣

No. people are just inventing things now.

What makes you think it was left on the table and covered in brioche?

So it wasn't packed with crumbs and it wasn't outside the lunchbox and covered with crumbs...how did it get covered in crumbs?

Have you forgotten that you're the one who started the thread, op?
You offered to wash your darling's apple because it was covered in crumbs.
Sorry, brioche.

FiveWhatByFiveWhat · 05/04/2025 15:13

No idea if we're MC or not but this thread made me think of ds at age 3 wondering around Lidl with his little trolley calling out "BRIOCHE...Where are yooooou?" 🤣

What’s this to do with middle class or any type of class? I’m from central Scotland and I don’t know anyone who is obsessed with class like mn. Weird

A working class type, bent on class warfare. We've all met them.

That's because Scottish people are far too sensible and busy making tasty snacks like scones and shortbread and don't mess with apples.

They're the ones at Hogwarts that nobody talks about...

Good point, how do goblins and house elves learn their magic? Home-schooling?

BeatrizBoniface · 05/04/2025 15:01

Don't they sell brioche in Aldi and Lidl? Not exactly a marker of the middle class. I thought it was the fact that her child ate raw fruit?

They do and it’s cheap. I don’t get this thread I don’t find it remotely funny.

BlackStrayCat · 05/04/2025 15:18

What was "middle-class wankerism" about anything that occured in this farm shop cafe?

Genuinely, it sounds like a parent helping a child with food allergies to eat a packed lunch safely?

ProfessionalPirate · 05/04/2025 15:21

I don’t get it Confused

GauntJudy · 05/04/2025 15:24

How interesting that people are triggered by this thread - either feeling picked on for being middle class or targeted as non-apple-eating working class.

Just shows that being humourless is class blind! Go and have a aperol spritz or a blue wkd and lighten up!

Buckarooo · 05/04/2025 15:26

I wonder when Mumsnet got so dull and boring.

And <yawn> at the inevitable posts saying that I'm the boring one and not funny blah blah blah

I genuinely don’t feel either. I enjoy a good joke. I just don’t feel this is one.

It might be quite a nice dog name actually. Brioche bellowed across the park! 😁

In all seriousness though, it is fascinating how food and social class are so connected in the UK....I'm not sure other countries are like this are they? I remember a new mum friend I made who called me posh for eating hummus for lunch...it had cost me about 70p for the tub.

Oh I know a little dog called Brioche 😂 it looks how you think it looks.

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 05/04/2025 15:30

Why are people so boring and serious on this thread? 🤣

If I heard someone say "you've got brioche crumbs all over it" I'd definitely have a little smile and think "how very middle class", because I'm decidedly non-middle class (I once described myself as working class but someone delightfully told me that as I'm on benefits, I'm actually part of the underclass). I'd just say "there's crumbs on your apple", it's specifically mentioning "brioche crumbs" that is very middle class.

AquaPeer · 05/04/2025 12:32

No, you peaked at middle class wankerism when you decided to cosplay a mid 2000s parody of a middle class wanker

Edited

This is surely actual peak middle class wankerism.

You don't have to. Not everyone has the same humour.

Right. It’s fairly inoffensive as MN threads go.

I like your thread OP. Ignore the ones that have a humourless chip on their shoulder, triple cooked gourmet chips of course.

There was a stereotypical middle class style widely laughed at called "overheard in waitrose". The OP suddenly caught herself saying exactly the same type of thing to her daughter, it made her cringe at herself/amused her and she thought she'd share here. Its one of those "Oh god what have i become?" moments

BunnyLake · 05/04/2025 15:33

Mirabai · 05/04/2025 15:32

Right. It’s fairly inoffensive as MN threads go.

MN never fails to disappoint though. I swear it’s impossible to have a light hearted thread on MN.

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 05/04/2025 15:34

Oh I used to love Overheard in Waitrose. Are images working again on MN? Just found these highlights.

Is this thread turning into a (brioche) bun fight?!
