I just peaked at middle class wankerism

At a farm café... naturally. And daughter is on special diet, so she was eating her packed lunch. And she went to eat her apple ...I found my self saying "oh darling, let me wash your apple, it's got brioche crumbs all over it"

What a dick I am 🤣

No. I won't.

Of course you won't. Anyone thinking the food they eat can catapult them up or down the class rankings would certainly have trouble explaining class as a concept.

I thought the middle class reference was the fact that the child ate an apple?

Dear God, really?

Ontheproverbialball · 05/04/2025 14:50

I made my child’s birthday cake today.

Does that make me middle class or working class? 🧐

Its a Madeira cake, if that helps.

Do you remember the halcyon days when people in MN could just take the piss out of themselves, have a smile and move on...? It was when it was all fields round here..

Well exactly, middle class fangirling is about 15 years out of date. You’re harking back to the days people used words like chav freely… all a bit outdated isn’t it?

It depends if you made it with white sugar or agave syrup.

It’s probably funnier if you are middle class. I didn’t really think of myself as middle class until I joined MN but MN has shown me that I am firmly and occasionally painfully middle class. I’m an awkward blend of Amanda and Julia (but I definitely look more like Julia).

It came out of the lunch box op had packed herself 😆

I didn't pack the lunch...

It also depends whether you brushed the crumbs away with a napkin or serviette. And whether you were sitting on a settee or sofa in the cafe.

I assumed it was because of the reference to brioche, simply because no one would bother to say what sort of crumbs they were. They'd just say "let me brush the crumbs off" which is a totally normal statement.

It is not.

Butter not Margerine.

Beef dripping.

Don't they sell brioche in Aldi and Lidl? Not exactly a marker of the middle class. I thought it was the fact that her child ate raw fruit?

By the Housekeeper one assumes, one cannot lower standards by talking directly to the hired help.

But you said the apple wasn't packed with crumbs. It was left on the table and covered in brioche. Nothing whatsoever to do with the butler.

IkeaJesusChrist · 05/04/2025 15:04

Totes hilarious.

quantumbutterfly · 05/04/2025 15:08

Is self loathing a good thing?
If I had any class I'd like to think I'd embrace it.

But I am a bit judgy about tattoos, some of them are just fugly, plus the inks migrate into your nearest lymph nodes which is a bit of a worry. Still if they keep you warm on a cold night you might as well sling another one on in lieu of clothing.

No. people are just inventing things now.

What makes you think it was left on the table and covered in brioche?
