Are there every day hyperboles people use on here that particularly annoy you?

“He cut his head open” meaning that he had a small cut somewhere on his head. “I pulled my kid out of school” meaning “I decided to move schools” And “I spat my tea on my keyboard” meaning “I found something mildly amusing” Although there aren’t as many of those anymore-maybe life has got more serious…..

Bullying.
If a poster posts something others disagree with, and they say so, they are "bullies". No. They're just disagreeing.

RhododendronFlowers · 04/04/2025 17:33

"She has been literally ripped apart".
No, we haven't attacked her with axes, separating her from her limbs. We have disagreed with something she has posted on here.

Youvebeenframed · 04/04/2025 17:35

…. anyone who is “rushed to hospital”

RhododendronFlowers · 04/04/2025 17:37

MargaretThursday · 04/04/2025 17:27

And "pile on" = people disagree with the Op

Yes, that's another annoying one.

spicemaiden · 04/04/2025 17:39

Oh so many….mostly to do with painting women who have fallen foul of being left holding the babies and all the responsibility being a drain on people.

‘popping out spawn’ ‘breeder’ etc etc etc

Gives me the rage.

Amberlynnswashcloth · 04/04/2025 17:39

The people threatening to leave the country because they can't afford things and are dissatisfied with public services. Where is this utopia that everyone's heading to?

Oh it's such nonsense. Even funnier when they want to escape to USA or Dubai.

Cynic17 · 04/04/2025 17:41

Definitely when people have some mildly worrying news and talk about being "terrified". I don't think I've ever been "terrified" in my life, because surely you'd have to be held at gunpoint or something for that to be applicable.

RhododendronFlowers · 04/04/2025 17:41

There's never been such a terrible time to live in human history and they fear for young people.

“On its knees”

RhododendronFlowers · 04/04/2025 17:42

"Britain is the laughing stock".
Ridiculous.

Yes! ‘Pull my kid out of school’ why? It conjures up an image from East Enders of someone yanking their husband by the collar and screaming at them for looking at another woman. You’ve just decided to change your child’s school, that’s all. Perhaps you are a bit annoyed with the school about something but you can be sure 95% of the other parents are quite happy with it. So, there’s no confrontation about it. You tell them your child is leaving and they shrug. It’s really not a drama.

Definitely this one, I always picture a poor child being dragged by one arm, feet dragging along the floor.

It doesn't even make much sense as there'd be few circumstances when it isn't simply a case of the child not returning to a school or nursery

Absolutely this. History shows us that life now (at least in western Europe) is objectively better than it has ever been.

True, and it's never been safer to be a child.

“Spent all day wrangling toddlers”

Sure I’ll get a slap for this one, but I then imagine a full-on rodeo with lassos and double-denim everywhere. These toddlers are what, two stone or something? How much would it take to overpower them?

ohnowwhatcanitbe · 04/04/2025 17:46

Traumatised is a bit over-used:

Their doorbell rang unexpectedly.
They actually had to answer the phone at work.
Another driver stuck two fingers up at them.
They had to stand next to a weird-looking stranger in the bus queue.
Waitrose ran out of blueberries.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 04/04/2025 17:50

'I've worked all my life' (usually followed by a rant about benefits, women, children, immigrants or the Disabled).

Really? Must have been awkward clocking in before the midwife clamped the cord, love.

Also running around all day after toddlers, in all my years of toddlerhood I never found the need to do that. Do they have huge estates with massive grounds they let them out in?

Good point - the toddlers only have short legs as well so I don’t see how they could escape that often tbh

cmma01 · 04/04/2025 17:57

My pet irritant is "it's affecting my mental health" actually meaning "I'm feeling a bit low mooded"

AlwaysGardening · 04/04/2025 16:54

Quite unique- no it’s either unique or not, there’s no middle ground.

yes. Also very unique.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 04/04/2025 18:13

The use of the word ‘trauma’ is everywhere. Whether it runs from upset to distress, there are so many terms which should be used instead.

UpUpUpU · 04/04/2025 18:20

I hate when people say “My Fanny just slammed/clamped shut”. It makes me physically cringe and I think posters think they are some kind of cool girl for saying it.

CurlewKate · 04/04/2025 18:37

Deadringer · 04/04/2025 17:32

The word 'devastated' is very over used I feel.

I try not to be a pedant-but ‘devestated’ is also used too much……🤣

Obsessed. Every freaking ‘influencer’ doesn’t like the product they are trying to flog. They are obsessed by it
