Keir Starmer getting a roasting on X

He's posted:

As the holy month of Ramadan ends, I wish Muslims in the UK and across the world a blessed and joyful Eid-al-Fitr. Eid Mubarak!

Nothing wrong there, and a sentiment I certainly share. He has however failed to acknowledge that today is also Mother's Day and it is also still Lent. He's getting such a lot of stick. I have to say it is a shocking lack of inclusivity.

OP posts:

Stockholm syndrome.

Back at you! 🤪

MrsMurphyIWish · 30/03/2025 13:23

DH and the kids are Catholic. I’m not sure they’re offended by KS not acknowledging Lent. DH and DD are mourning that they can’r share my Mother’s Day chocolate with me.

OP, are you Christian and offended?

Longma · 30/03/2025 13:33

I don’t think he needed to mention lent. I suspect there will be an Easter message. I doubt he posted anything about it being Ramadan previously, wi=hich would be the lent equivalent.

I think some people just look for absolutely anything to criticise.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/03/2025 13:34

Twitter is a right wing, racist shithole for that wanker Musk and his bots. See also todays bullshit nonsense about the Netflix show Adolesence.

Inclusivity my arse. We see you.🙄

Longma · 30/03/2025 13:36

I’m not sure why Mother’s Day needs to be acknowledged in his post about Eid.

The two are not linked and nothing to do with inclusivity.

Beekeepingmum · 30/03/2025 13:38

Vitrolinsanity · 30/03/2025 12:51

I am saddened the Prime Minister hasn’t got and encouraging word for people that have made if to the halfway mark of giving up chocolate for a few weeks. Shame on your Sir!

I beat he will put out a post on Chocolate Egg day itself.

It is a Christian celebration though. Mothering Sunday. Celebrated in all churches across England today. Of course it should be acknowledged.

Unless it's changed dramatically recently, all that meant was the kids were given a wilted daffodil from a supermarket bunch to take home with them so the mothers had to find something to put it in without it looking too pathetic at the same time as cooking lunch and making sure everything's ready for school tomorrow. It would have been more special in the 16th century because it was the day to return to the church people were baptised in and by default getting to see their mothers if they were still alive; I'm willing to bet that the majority of people didn't return just to visit their old church.

Maybe he should be posting sympathy for the floppy daff recipients?

The clocks went forward last night - maybe he should be posting sympathy for those who had to be up for work an hour earlier/stay an hour later?

Should he be marking the day of the highest pollen count this year by remembering the streaming of nose and eyes?

Comparing what is now a daffodil for mum & waiting ages for a microwave meal in a packed pub day to the second most important Islamic festival (so akin to Christmas vs Easter) is reaching somewhat.

Icanhearabee · 30/03/2025 13:58

I saw that as well. I’ve seen a lot of posts from him about Eid. Nothing about lent though.

Do you mean Easter? Why do you feel the need to mock it?

Do you mean Easter? Why do you feel the need to mock it?

It’s ok. It’s almost obligatory to mock Christian religious days on here.

tinydynamine · 30/03/2025 14:29

Politicians...never mind the under-16s... should be banned from using social media.

Not mocking it all. We take celebrating the arrival so Spring with Chocolate Eggs very seriously.

Itwasacceptableinthe80zz · 30/03/2025 15:03

Non-inclusive my arse! What a lot of shit.

I couldn’t care less if Kier Starmer acknowledges Mother’s Day. I say that as someone who spent Mothering Sunday in church this morning and had lovely hand drawn cards from my children. Ostentatiously celebrating lent is not a thing.

Anyway I agree with Keir on this -Eid Mubarak!

As the pp says people mock that religion, I assume they don’t do the same for others including the one in the op.

They just lied. Labour always lie. I’m just amazed there were 20% of the adult population too stupid to realise that. We truly do live amongst idiots.

I spoke to a friend of mine who is a solicitor and said they given Keir's legal background that he's good at finding flaws in a plan/policy but that doesn't mean he has any alternatives instead.

loulouljh · 30/03/2025 15:28

He is such an utter twat....

Snorlaxo · 30/03/2025 16:20

Apologies if this has been pointed out but his Facebook page has the Mothers Day and Ramadan post.

Snorlaxo · 30/03/2025 16:22

This made me laugh

I thought Elon musk didn’t like keir starmer. I’m surprised he’s got an account on twitter

Snorlaxo · 30/03/2025 16:30

His MD post is about wishing his mother and the mother of his kids a Happy MD rather than mums in general.

He thinks that a woman can have a penis. I don’t need someone like that wishing me a happy MD.

Elon doesn’t like him but free speech and the opportunity to tag him in his rants will be important to him.

It’s the PM’s username. I doubt very much he even knows what goes out in his name. He will have PR people who tweet for him. Occasionally there will be one that he genuinely writes himself, but it’s just like the royals. They don’t write 90% of what goes out in their name. Or other famous people.
I do think that his office should have done both, but generally they have an eye for the voters so it’s Eid today and Easter when it comes. Mother’s Day isn’t seen as having enough importance.
