Keir Starmer getting a roasting on X

He's posted:

As the holy month of Ramadan ends, I wish Muslims in the UK and across the world a blessed and joyful Eid-al-Fitr. Eid Mubarak!

Nothing wrong there, and a sentiment I certainly share. He has however failed to acknowledge that today is also Mother's Day and it is also still Lent. He's getting such a lot of stick. I have to say it is a shocking lack of inclusivity.

Agree, have just said this on another thread. Congrats to all those men and women who had sex and then the woman decided to have the baby. Bonkers absolutely bonkers. Oh and well done Darren for giving up crisps and chocolate for a couple of weeks for Lent, hang on in there mate, not long to go.

Lent means something to those who follow it, presumably those who take something from the post today are the same.

Not today but the start of it.

If one then both surely. Why mock Lent in particular?

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 30/03/2025 12:47

And just FYI his Mother’s Day post shows as five hours ago and his Eid on four hours ago. Which would suggest he did Mother’s Day first.

ItisIbeserk · 30/03/2025 12:48

The OP mentioned that it’s ’still Lent’ as if this ongoing situation was something the PM should be tweeting about, to assuage presumably all the totally legitimate concerns of his critics.

RainingRoses · 30/03/2025 12:50

That was in your OP. Funny how your tone changed when it was you getting a roasting here.

He posted about Christmas and I’m sure he will post about Easter. If he starts posting about smaller Islamic holidays then you have a point about him not posting about Lent. But he’s clearly posting about major holidays and it’s troubling that you and others on X find that so upsetting.

Vitrolinsanity · 30/03/2025 12:51

I am saddened the Prime Minister hasn’t got and encouraging word for people that have made if to the halfway mark of giving up chocolate for a few weeks. Shame on your Sir!

I saw a post on IG this morning showing a photo of his parents at his wedding. Is that not good enough for people?

It seems he has posted different things on different platforms and those talking about it on Twitter don't know that he's put things elsewhere. Maybe a clear communication strategy would be better and avoid criticisms like that.

I'm now hoping that Starmer put his best wishes for Eid post on Twitter deliberately because that's where the racists hang out and he was trolling them.

My tone hasn't changed @RainingRoses and people throwing accusations of racism allegedly "roasting" me doesn't chasten me or change my mind.

I still think it is a lack of inclusivity, or more correctly a lack of awareness and a communication plan that isn't well thought through. As I said, he has used different platforms and people who only follow one will only see that one post, as has happened on Twitter, and this will lead them to think he is not being inclusive. This is the point of a discussion, after all, to find out information. I've found out a lot of information from some people here and conclude that the messaging can be seen as confusing and lead to criticism that may not be warranted.

@noblegiraffe That would be very poor judgement from the prime minister.

Keir Starmer is always getting roasted on X- I’d be surprised if people were being complimentary.

A Lent post would be pointless - Easter Sunday is fine.

I saw that he has posted a MD post. I bet the people who jumped the gun don’t delete their posts on X though.

Arayofcalm · 30/03/2025 13:00

It's 'X' so he would have got a bashing regardless of what he posted by certain people. In this instance the mention of Eid has got the racists all riled up.

Beekeepingmum · 30/03/2025 13:00

Maybe he just send his Mother a card and doesn't to do the performative social media mothers day thing. I haven't send any Mother's Day greetings to anyone other than my mother.

the80sweregreat · 30/03/2025 13:01

He gets a roasting every single day on X.
It’s just another day in the office for him.

Why do you think Lent means this for everyone?

Ftftesfs · 30/03/2025 13:02

I've been rewatching PMQs when he was leader of the opposition and the way he talks makes it seem like the Labour party had the solutions to everything

Pancakeflipper · 30/03/2025 13:02

@BeckyBismuth You are just looking for ways to be offended.

Shocking lack of inclusivity. Agree. It’s also national turkey neck soup day and as someone who worships both turkeys and necks I am deeply offended.

This made me laugh because it sums up X so well.

I thought that it was the day of Sunday roast with the half-price-medium-chicken- from-Sainsburys-with- a -Nectar-card day.

Thinking of my late mum today, who so influenced me as I was growing up; and thinking of my wife Vic, who is the rock of our family. This picture, from our wedding day, is one of my favourite memories of them both together. Happy Mother’s Day.

They just lied. Labour always lie. I’m just amazed there were 20% of the adult population too stupid to realise that. We truly do live amongst idiots.

This when the Tories lied consistently and egregiously, we didn't have parties, we let our mates run away with your cash, for years. Tories always lie and are still doing it now.

CantStopMoving · 30/03/2025 13:10

Maybe I’m now getting old but I do long for the days when being a member of different groups really had no bearing on anyone else’s lives. I can definitely remember the 90s when we didn’t even know what our friend’s religions were- we just were friends . We didn’t feel the need to wish them well on their religious days but respected their right to do what they wanted in their own lives. We also just bought our mums a card and a box of chocolates on Mother’s Day and we didn’t have to make a massive performative song or dance about it! Life was far less stressful!. I can’t imagine a thread like this 30/40 years ago!

Blemin · 30/03/2025 13:11

Twitter is such a load of old rubbish, OP. Most of the posters aren't even real people. Think about it - go out in the real world in which you actually live. Are people screaming their heads off about Islamists and Bill Gates and, whatever, vampire pedos delivering pizza that spies on you in the bath. No, because most people aren't actually crazy.

The vast majority of comments on Twitter are made by bots winding up the 10% of humans that are reeled in by that bollocks. It's an obvious load of bollocks! It's like your nan forwarding you those chain emails about Obama stealing the NHS. That's what you're doing here. You're acting like your nan in 2006 who doesn't understand the internet.

Thanks Obama!
