Keir Starmer getting a roasting on X

He's posted:

As the holy month of Ramadan ends, I wish Muslims in the UK and across the world a blessed and joyful Eid-al-Fitr. Eid Mubarak!

Nothing wrong there, and a sentiment I certainly share. He has however failed to acknowledge that today is also Mother's Day and it is also still Lent. He's getting such a lot of stick. I have to say it is a shocking lack of inclusivity.

Re his own mother, which most won’t know about, posting on issues as a PM doesn’t usually follow that kind of personal reasoning.

I agree, but I also don't think mother's day necessarily needs to be acknowledged by the PM. It's mainly a hallmark holiday these days, and not that big a deal.

I would expect him to acknowledge major religious festivals from any religion, including significant events in the Christian calendar such as Christmas and Easter etc. Mothering Sunday and other minor dates in the Christian calendar and other religious calendars? Not so much.

This. ^ As has been said, a total non-story. Maybe find a new hobby @BeckyBismuth Wink

I’m not his mum. Why would he need to wish me a happy Mother’s Day?!

ItisIbeserk · 30/03/2025 11:48

I recommend leaving Twitter. You’ll have a happier life, not having to read tiny messages of pointless hate all day.

Stripeyanddotty · 30/03/2025 11:48

So are we not allowed to say that posters are racist now??

In my experience even reporting posters for using racist slurs against you is considered problematic by MN.

Doesn't look like it! 😱

Stripeyanddotty · 30/03/2025 11:54

Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.

Probably unwise to have said it again too! 😬

Stripeyanddotty · 30/03/2025 11:56

Mea culpa.

Yorkshirelass04 · 30/03/2025 11:56

It's also international Day for Zero Waste according to the UN.

Damn Labour and their fake commitment to environment

It's International Something Day every day. It was Theatre Day the other day. Of course we know that 1 August is the most important day don't we?!

I saw a post from Keir Starmer, on Facebook, about Mothers Day hours ago.

Yes I know all of that, since I have just referenced the UN days.

I can also confirm that Keir has put a nice Mother's Day message on his LinkedIn in feed, plus a picture of his late Mum!

It's really sweet, you should definitely check it out.

I don’t follow any of it tbf. Was there a post about the start of Lent?

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/03/2025 12:02

Remind me again who it is that owns X…. quelle surprise.

hairbearbunches · 30/03/2025 12:15

Performative politics, at best.

Politicians should be nowhere near social media. They ought to have better things to do.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 30/03/2025 12:19

Oh yawn. Looking for reasons to be offended.

Allswellthatendswelll · 30/03/2025 12:24

I mean Eid is a massive festival whereas Mothering Sunday (not Mothers Day) is just one of the Sundays in Lent. I presume OP you are going back to your Mother Church today?

Also he's the PM not head of state I'm not sure why we need him to post his thoughts about different days.

Also who actually cares?

Boring innit. Wanna come round mine for a bit? It’s a nice day, I’m going out on my bike to yell HAPPY EID!!!! at any woman who looks like she’s heading out for lunch.

I wouldn't value the thoughts of anyone getting het up about a politician not X-ing congratulations to people who chose to have a kid.

Agree, have just said this on another thread. Congrats to all those men and women who had sex and then the woman decided to have the baby. Bonkers absolutely bonkers. Oh and well done Darren for giving up crisps and chocolate for a couple of weeks for Lent, hang on in there mate, not long to go.

BeckyBismuth · 30/03/2025 12:32

Maybe giving up Twitter for Lent is a good idea!

No

it would be considered a personal attack

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 30/03/2025 12:43

I saw a post on IG this morning showing a photo of his parents at his wedding. Is that not good enough for people?
