What IS Dubai chocolate?

NotOnThsAsosChristmasCardList · 29/03/2025 11:31

I'm seeing it having two bar limits imposed on the media I'm seeing it being expensive.

What is it?

Is it some sort of witch magic that's going to change my whole entire life?

Hotel chocolat do praline paste filled chocolates. Lovely and nowhere near as expensive as this stuff. Someone, somewhere, in a marketing department will get a great bonus this year. It’s just a nut paste filled chocolate bar FFS.

Hotel Chocolat isn't cheap either. Except in the sales.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 29/03/2025 13:20

The trend will be over soon

Precisely, but you can get a 4 pack of chocolates at Waterloo for about £3 which is clearly massively cheaper than the Dubai stuff. The fact that it is 2-3x the price of even HC products is mind-blowing. And I’m a real chocoholic!

Pistachio sauce + kunafa crunchy topping + chocolate casing = Dubai chocolate

Pistachio sauce/paste/butter: similar to a peanut butter, but pistachio

Kunafa topping: Crunchy very thin spun dough (like vermicelli)

Is that what it is? I'll be giving that a miss then..pistachios yuk.

SomethingFun · 29/03/2025 14:00

Very similar to praline with Feuilletine in it that you can get in boxes of chocs from m and s etc. it’s alright but not worth the extortionate price imho.

I'll wait a couple of months and get some when it gets in the bargain bin like those drinks people went OTT over a year or two ago!

You might not have to wait too much longer, it was all the rage pre Christmas

Offtobuttonmoontovisitmrspoon · 29/03/2025 14:04

Overpriced chocolate made for gullible influencers who then tell all of their equally as gullible followers how it’s going to change your life and make you rich and pretty. HTH.

I assumed it was related to Dubai porta potties 😂

I came on this thread thinking the same thing 😂

Wheretogon · 29/03/2025 14:28

It’s way overpriced for what it is and ultimately an online trend that will hopefully die down soon. I refuse to buy it but was given some as a present. I hate to admit that I actually liked it but there is no way I’m paying £10-20 for a bar of chocolate.

butterfly1234 · 29/03/2025 14:38

It's chocolate filled with pistachio paste. I've tried it and liked it, although the chocolate overpowered the pistachio taste. I'd like to taste the filling by itself, maybe on toast or crumpets... or just a spoon!

OpalSpirit · 29/03/2025 14:47

My daughter asked if she could get a bar or chocolate, and she got one for me, this morning.

Cost £10 for two bars!!

I love pistachio anything but this was weird and dry.
Had no idea I was contributing to a trend, after taste is even worse now!!

Mumofnarnia · 29/03/2025 14:48

I’ve tried a small cheap knock off bar the other day. Just tasted like Ferrero Rocher 🤷‍♀️

diddl · 29/03/2025 16:23

I have seen some here (Germany) but it was €15 a bar & I wasn't that curious!

Apparently Aldi started selling one in Jan but were taken to court

& lost as it was made in Turkey & the writing stating that was small.

Wonder why they didn't call it "Dubai style" like Lindt?

Well, I've just had peanut butter & chocolate spread on toast!

Pedallleur · 29/03/2025 16:38

You can buy pistachio creme in M&S or TK. There is a fancy online store that sells Mada Mada who make various nut spreads. Cheaper to buy these.

Be in the £3.60 Tesco meal deal before we know it with a bottle of that drink that was a tick tock favourite.

My daughter bought a bar of this just before Christmas for £13 from a seller on Etsy and there’s nothing that great about it tbh it was like crossed between a cornflake crispy cake and a kitkat imo haha

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 29/03/2025 19:04

It's emperors new clothes for those who follow trends blindly or have more money than sense!

No shortage of those people it would seem.

MagentaRocks · 29/03/2025 19:19

I think it sounds nice but I am not paying a fortune for it on Amazon or other online retailer and I can’t be bothered to go to Lidl. I am sure I will try it at some point.

CanteringAlong · 29/03/2025 21:29

I was given a bar from Godiva. We all thought it was delicious. Very rich though! .. and £20 apparently!

Missey85 · 29/03/2025 22:00

It's yuck 🤮

uncomfortablydumb60 · 29/03/2025 22:40

I saw the Lindt version in Sainsbury’s at £10! I thought the Toneys chocoloney I buy weekly was expensive enough

RareMaker · 30/03/2025 08:10

TennesseeStella · 29/03/2025 11:32

It's got pistachio something in it. That's all I know. I love chocolate but am strangely not even tempted to try it. Maybe it's the name putting me off! 😜

Thought it was just me 😅

redshoesredlaces · 30/03/2025 08:22

If you like peanut butter, pistachio paste, chestnut paste, hazelnut paste or any other paste type thing with chocolate then you’ll probably like it

I can’t stand any of the above so it won’t be for me. Too claggy

You’d be lucky to get any in Lidl. I went in last night and remembered it as I got to the checkout, DP loves pistachio and so I asked if they were selling it.

I live in a small town and apparently people were queuing for it at opening time as they started selling it in store yesterday, the staff member I was speaking to said they sold out within the hour.
I have noticed it for resale on eBay for between £15 and £20.

Amazon sell a pistachio paste I used to buy for £4.99, it was a cross between peanut butter and Nutella and is delicious but very rich.

I don’t understand why people are so easily influenced, there is no way I’d be that desperate and queue for something or buy it unless it really appealed like it would for DP in this situation. The overinflated price should put people off but the desperation to be part of the trend wins every time.

My friends daughter (just turned 12 in February) insisted on expensive skincare and a mini fridge for Christmas, she took some pictures for social media and to show friends but has never used it, her younger sister got more age appropriate things and has ended up having to share.
The skincare is out on display for visiting friends but never gets used properly.

It’s sad kids and adults get manipulated into spending money on things when they don’t really want them and just want to keep up with trends, I’m grateful I didn’t have the same pressure at that age and don’t feel the need to follow it now.

I do want to order some of that pistachio cream though so I’ve been influenced in a roundabout way!
