Can’t use a flipping hand wash bottle! 😳😳

If anyone can’t help a hopeless woman….

Bought a bottle of hand wash and I just can’t use it! The logic would be that pressing on the top would allow me to ‘get’ some soap. Instead, it seems to stuck. I can’t press on it.
Tried to turn it right and left to no avail.

What am I missing?!?

I feel so stupid right now 🫣🫣

photo of the bottle in case it helps.

Have you turned it a few times all the way round so that it’s popped up first?

FatherFrosty · 22/03/2025 15:16

ive had a right spate of these lately, pumps that just won’t open. I swap the lid and use an old one or put it in a bought bottle.

DoverWight · 22/03/2025 15:25

Totally unscrew the lid & take it off, hold it using kitchen roll so it doesn’t slip, then try opening the pump.

faerietales · 22/03/2025 15:39

You need to twist it round a few times before it pops up, then use it as normal.

stopringingme · 22/03/2025 16:01

Are you pressing down whilst you twist to release the pump.

I have had a few recently that will not open and I use the pump from the previous one.

Same. I find the Tesco own brand pump dispensers the hardest to get going

Ihateboris · 22/03/2025 16:18

I'm glad I'm not the only one 😌

Normallynumb · 22/03/2025 16:32

Push top down and twist so pump pops up? I feel your pain. I now decant into Joseph Joseph pumps, although I realise it’s a waste of plastic

Ollybob · 22/03/2025 16:33

The top needs to pop up, hold onto the bottom of the lid and just twist the top, you may need to push it down a little while doing so.
I've managed to fix the odd one in seconds when customers have brought similar back to the shop as they say it's faulty, I must have the knack!

Normallynumb · 22/03/2025 16:34

I see you’ve tried Take the top off to release the vacuum maybe?

LilyOfTheValleySoon · 22/03/2025 16:37

So far I’ve tried to turn the pump around a few turns (nice arrow showing the direction too) but no difference.

Will try doing that whilst pressing down

So tried the pushing down the pump and twisting and …. It didn’t work.
No vacuum either (I’ve been able to remove the top itself) so that’s not that.

I seem unable to just get the top to pop up. I have 3 of those too. Arrrrg…

LilyOfTheValleySoon · 22/03/2025 16:41

@FatherFrosty i wish I could just swap too!! Simplest agd easiest solution really.

Maybe the pump is fucked So frustrating
can you decant into another bottle?
or buy another £1 Carex.. Their bottles are the best. It will save your sanity

rightoguvnor · 22/03/2025 16:55

Ha ha, bargain in Tescos? I bought exactly the same.
But mine opened quite easily with a sharp turn. Although I can’t remember if I had to push the nozzle down and then turn. Smells quite nice, ok next to the kitchen sink.

tobee · 22/03/2025 17:07

You are not alone. I frequently end up having to undo the whole thing if it's a new shower gel and I'm getting cold struggling. 😬

I do this too, it actually saves on plastic if you bulk buy 5L containers of hand soap and decant to the little bottle. Arran Aromatics do the big bottles, other brands are catching on to this too.
I do the same with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel.

LilyOfTheValleySoon · 22/03/2025 17:22

Well at least I’m reassured I’m not the only one 😂😂

I might take it back to Tesco. Maybe they’ll be able to open them further me. I only bought those ones because I liked the pattern on the bottle too…

I've had issues with this too. The only remedy I have found is to use the top off the previous bottle (if you have one obviously!).

FatherFrosty · 22/03/2025 17:54

I’ve got a foam pump. It uses about 1/3 of the soap to fill up. The rest is water. You also don’t have to wet your hands to lather so it saves water as well as plastic and soap

FatherFrosty · 22/03/2025 17:56

@LilyOfTheValleySoon your not alone with this. It’s happened so often lately I was thinking of starting a thread. I think it’s happening more often than not now

RentalWoesNotFun · 23/03/2025 12:12

That happens to me far too often. Really annoying.

I started keeping the old pump top from previous bottles to swap over if I buy one again that doesn’t work. It’s so annoying. Most of the time the brands take the same size top bit so it’s fine.

You could try picking up another one and trying to open it in the shop and if you succeed just buy it and swap the tops over when it runs out. Keep the bottle if you like the picture on it and refill with anything.

Yes! I now save a couple of the pump heads for all the new Tesco ones that won’t release.

Yep. I just put the old pump into the new bottle x

Normallynumb · 25/03/2025 16:46

Did you manage to get the bottle to work?
