(Previous thread 16).

Spring is springing, daffodils blooming all over our LairGarden, which have not all been picked by a neighbour's kid...

In the TalkLair, the hearth is glowing, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, cosy rugs are down on the floors looking a bit stained by cat hairball regurgitation. The denizens of the lair are a welcoming bunch though, always eager for general chit-chat on all manner of topics. We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

We need a 'vomit' emoji!

I think the evidence they work is pretty shaky, but generally by that point you'll try anything! I had two with no effect other than an unpleasant reminder that there was about to be too much attention paid to my nethers in the coming hours/days.

FagsMagsandBags · 30/04/2025 21:27

Evening all! The help me out went above and beyond and a friend has a friend who works in the industry so managing directors are bringing this and that to my actual home to test! People have been wonderful!

artant · 30/04/2025 22:53

Hope you get something that works really well for you, Fags.

I’ve missed so many posts, I need to catch up. I just wanted to pop in and say Kasper had his dental surgery yesterday and ended up needing 16 extractions in total. The surgery went well but there was a post-op complication when he got home involving a torn stitch and lots of blood all over him, me, the floor and my phone. He’s ok now but pain management has been a struggle. I’m exhausted.

Thank goodness for opioids. Here he is after this evening’s syringe

Poor stoned, gummy puss.

Britinme · 01/05/2025 00:46

Oh poor puss!

artant · 01/05/2025 02:22

Oh no, that sounds very stressful; poor Kasper and poor you!

RasaSayangEh · 01/05/2025 09:33

Poor Kasper, but I can't help giggling at his stoned little face Grin

Poor Kasper, he looks really out of it doesn't he!

SinnerBoy · 01/05/2025 10:25

Gummy puss? Or pussy gums?

Gonners · 01/05/2025 10:53

Poor Kasper. The thing is, he has one of those very sweet, smiley expressions so he tends to look stoned even when he isn't.

VictorianBigot · 01/05/2025 13:22

SinnerBoy · 01/05/2025 10:25

Gummy puss? Or pussy gums?

He's just had his post-op check, apparently he's healed very quickly so he's just a gummy puss.

He was very funny on the opioid last night. He went from being flopped on the floor looking miserable to doing little saucer-eyed zoomies and trills.

kittykarate · 01/05/2025 14:20

When Jake has had dental treatment he comes home initially subdued and then turns into small, off his tits, raver. Wobbling around, meowing, demanding food, ignoring food, looking out of window, return to stare at owner, meowing, meowing... rinse repeat for 3 hours!

RasaSayangEh · 01/05/2025 15:55

This morning's Mochi present on the living room carpet:

  • One set mouse toes;
  • One tiny black sphere which may or may not have been a mouse eyeball;
  • One curved slug-like item, possibly a mouse caecum.

Eew! Bad Mochi.

Glad Kasper is through his horrible procedure @VictorianBigot. You must be very relieved it's done. One of mine probably needs a tooth extracting - I very much share your anxiety! We're leaving a couple of months in case he manages to absorb the tooth by himself. Cats' teeth are weird and creepy.

Britinme · 02/05/2025 03:11

Our cat Reese who needed teeth extracting seemed to get over it remarkably quickly. We’ve had some concern over her weight loss recently though and DH and I aren’t entirely on the same page about how to deal with it. On vet advice we switched her to “sensitive stomach” food, which does seem to be helping, but I think he underfeeds them because she in particular is always begging for food early. How much do you all feed your cats?

kittykarate · 02/05/2025 07:50

One cat gets 3 sachets (2 normal, 1 prescription) plus treats to hide his tablets and whatever he can steal off his brother. The other gets 2 sachets and a handful of biscuits. This is spread across 3 or 4 meals, as cannot leave any food out or cat#1 will scran the lot.

Cat#1 got thinner and hungrier...turned out to be hyperthyroid.

This is a favourite picture of mine. 'Rabbit in front of the mirror' by Michael Sowa.

Dear departed Phoebe was self-regulating, so we would have dry food out all the time and a quarter- or half-tin of wet food at intervals throughout the day. She would pick at whatever she fancied at the time.

Mochi will eat everything in her bowl in one go, and if it's even a bit too much to fit in her stomach, throw it all up in a disgusting snake-like coil. And then wail for more because she's staaaaarving. A couple of months ago, we bought an automatic feeder that dispenses tiny portions of dry food every few hours and this seems to have eliminated the problem (touch wood). Wet food is now served as little hand-fed treats.

I've just realised that I don't really know how much food that all adds up to, but she seems happy with the arrangement.

I was a dental appointment yesterday, hoping to have roots removed of a broken tooth and the removal of a tooth on the left. Alas twas not to be be because we were unable to get hold of my oncologist whose approval was needed for me to have local anaesthetic. The dentist filled the two teeth and they're feeling a lot better. Lovely Kasper looks so gloriously happily stoned and nappy to just to be himself.

I'm going to see some electronic vehicles today and I must pimp up my road.

FagsMagsandBags · 02/05/2025 11:04

Ride, not road. I've been told to do the pimping by people who've donated so I have to obey. It's such a lot of hard work! 😔 😀

SinnerBoy · 02/05/2025 12:02

I hope that flowers, fairies and magic mushrooms will feature! My ex and her sister hand painted such on her Micra, back in the early 90s.

How old is he? It was only after seeing x-rays and photos of Kasper's mouth while he was under GA that I realised how much pain he must have been in. It looks like there was some resorption and possibly dentine/pulp exposure as a result which must have been agonising for him. The vet said the gum inflammation had also led to larynx inflammation. I'll attach some pics.

The only sign I was really aware of was his breath was increasingly bad, they hide the pain so well.

@Britinme The vet did a post-op check yesterday and he's pretty much healed! It's crazy. It took ages for my lower wisdom teeth to heal.

Re feeding, Kasper's really laid back about it and self-regulates. I don't leave food down for him unless I'm going to be out for a few hours or more. When he's hungry he comes and gets me and directs me to the kitchen, then sits by his place mat Grin He tends not to eat it all at once, he likes to savour it and without fail he always leaves one biscuit or a single piece of meat for later. Like @RasaSayangEh I've no idea how much he actually gets but at checkups the vet always says he's the perfect weight.

@FagsMagsandBags I'm glad your teeth are feeling better. I always used to be given a different kind of local anaesthetic because of my heart condition, I'm guessing one without adrenaline/epinephrine. I hope you have a lovely afternoon looking at vehicles.

Skittles was hyperthyroid and we had to have radiation treatment for her as she is absolutely uncooperative for medication, but Reese doesn’t appear to have that problem according to the vet. We’re off at the end of the month for a six week trip (3 and a half weeks in France and 2 and a half in the UK) so anxious to get a solid routine for our neighbour’s son (almost 18 and very reliable, plus help from his parents) who will be feeding them twice a day and seeing to the litter trays. On our trip, we will be spending 4 days with Tethys and with Fawaz from the old place (2 days with each as they live near each other) and stopping for a lunch with Tasselhoff.
