I have fucked up holiday

I booked a holiday in tunisa. I have never been abroad before as an adult. I did not know tunisa is not a safe place to go. I didn't even know you could look it up. I just thought that if its not safe that all flights to that area stop . But that's not the case . I tried changing it but they told me I can't because airline operator do not go to the area I want . Its with tunisa airlines so basically it only gos to tunisa? . So i can't go change to a different destination. But unless I pay a load of money I can't cancel either.

Just to add . I do have learning difficulties. Which is probably why I did not realise all of this . I'm so pissed of

I have fucked up holiday

Agree with previous posters who say it depends on where you stay. We stayed in a big resort there about 13 years ago and it was absolutely fine.

CarrieOnComplaining · 21/03/2025 14:21

You will be fine in that hotel / resort. And surrounding tourist area.

Do proper official excursions rather than setting off on your own, you’ll have a lovely time 🙂

This.

I've been to the Hammamet area twice in the last 2 years, and have never felt unsafe. I am a solo traveller in my 60s, and have used local transport to get out and explore, with no problems. I am going to Djerba next week. Enjoy Tunisia, the country and people are fabulous!

UpMyself · 22/03/2025 19:13

Djerba is lovely, @Grumpygrandma1962

Why didn't you check the link in the very first reply to your thread 3 days ago? There us literally a map that tells you where is safe and where isn't in Tunisia.

Why did you start yet another thread?

It's all becoming very exasperating.

Edited

OP has learning difficulties no need to be so rude

Preachscreen · 22/03/2025 19:24

You will be absolutely fine, just stay within the resort if you have doubts ...most resorts you do not have to or want to leave anyway as they have so much going on. Just be weary if you do venture out of people trying rip you off from taxis to ice cream stalls and pick pocketers, but this happens other places too I.e. turkey. Go and enjoy! I think Tunisia is building itself back uk and the resorts look much more impressive now.

Purpl · 22/03/2025 19:30

Listen op you are going to have a great holiday with your kids and it’s good you eking advice and getting prepared,
the travel advice for most places is not to go wandering main unknown inland towns. Enjoy the pool and the hotel facilities.
yiu sound friendly so I’m sure if you ask the help desk/information office in the airport where shuttle bus is then they will be very helpful. It’s normally well signed posted.
it may be worth buying just one long linen wide type trousers and shirt they on. Trend now anyway and one for your daughter. Sons be fine. Primark or vinted. And a Maxi dress . They be nice for uk weather too if budget allows. There be no issues with dress code in hotel it be same as uk. Then just look around at what everyone else is wearing,
if you still worried then you could always go back to love holidays explain your dyslexia and sen kids and ask for a special consideration to just pay minimal admin charge to change, I do f think you need to I think Tunisia will be wonderful enjoy

DiduAye · 22/03/2025 19:31

The resort you are going to isn't in the area that our Government advised against Don't panic .

I may have to cancel/change it anyway.

Why so? Lots of reassurances in this thread. The longer you wait the higher the fee to cancel/change is likely to get. When are you due to go?

It's not that . Its to do with adult ds but I don't want to say to much.

Tunisia is wonderful; I’ve been many times from age 11 and I’m 64 now. The people are very accommodating and there is so much to explore from Carthage and Tunis in the north to El Djem and the oases in the south.
Dont worry. Just put your excited hat on 😃

TheBossOfMe · 22/03/2025 19:56

Ah I finally recognised your username from other threads.

You’re overthinking this. Look at how much you’ve achieved over the last year. You’re doing so much that’s positive for you and your kids.

Go to Tunisia. It’ll be wonderful and the experience of a lifetime for you and your kids.

You’ve got this just as you got on top of so many other things in your life.

Tunisia was the first holiday I took my children on when I was single.

It was great !

I am not a Spain person.

Delphiniumandlupins · 22/03/2025 20:31

I think you will be fine in your resort. The advice about clothing is for if you go out of the resort for sightseeing or shopping. You can see what other people are wearing in the hotel restaurant. One or two long-sleeved tops and trousers or long skirt are useful for travelling or covering up if you get sunburnt anyway.

If there is a problem with your adult DS going do you have other family or a friend who could maybe take his place? (You would have to pay a charge for a name change probably)

No there's no one else that can go. He can still come but think we need to change the destination. Its not because of the stuff I was worried about though.

Tell us what the concern is with destination and let’s see if the collective wisdom of MN can help. I know sometimes it isn’t a kind place but there are a lot of good people on here ready to give good advice. We’ll get you and the kids on the holiday of a lifetime :)

mjf981 · 22/03/2025 20:46

Ah don’t lose all that money. Go. You’ll have an experience, get some sun, and be totally fine. It’s booked now so I’d just get on with getting excited about the beach and sun.

justasmalltownmum · 22/03/2025 20:48

Hammamet is a tourist strip.

There are arseholes in every part of life. Just ignore them. You’re doing amazing things for your family.

I've been to Tunisia, the worst you'll get in Hammamet is people trying to force you into their shops.

SuperBlondie28 · 22/03/2025 21:38

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Tunisia is a closed currency country. You can't take or bring back the local currency now.

I'm going November. I've been before and no issues. I've been able to afford a nicer hotel because it's Tunisia. Tui Blue in fact. Can't wait.

I just draw currency out of the ATM via my Starling debit card.

Have been told using mobile phone really expensive if using EE, Vodafone, Three etc.

Using WiFi is best.

Have a wonderful time OP.
