Narrow access road to the car drop off/pick up area. Parking area at the top. Can drive back the way you came or there is another road off to the side. Parent stops before the side road, blocking cars behind, waits for her children to walk to her car and slowly get in. Everyone else stuck behind waiting to get up to the parking area. Nearly honked, but thankful I didn’t as shortly after one of her kids fell out while trying to close their door. The lack of consideration is next level.

And this surprised you? I see this kind of behaviour constantly, entitled parents are the worst. They also usually drive SUVs 😆

jellyfishperiwinkle · 20/03/2025 03:53

It's annoying but it must have delayed you, what, 30 seconds, while the kids got into the car.

Lyannaa · 20/03/2025 03:58

Yeah, I hate this kind of thing. It’s an attitude of ‘my time is more important than everyone else’s’

Glittertwins · 20/03/2025 05:07

Driving up the pavement because they were late. Nearly took a few of us out like skittles (DC already in school fortunately). Concrete bollards now in place to stop it happening again.

WonderingWanda · 20/03/2025 05:41

There was a parent who used to drive up on to a grass verge to avoid yellow lines outside dd's primary. It used to carve up all the grass and it looked a right mess. Made me irrationally angry as it really wasn't far down the road to non yellow lines.

Mainly SUV drivers parked badly and idling so all the children walking up to the school have to breathe in their exhaust fumes. Tossers.

HelenWheels · 20/03/2025 06:12

i remember a mum in a triangle junction, drive in one way, drive out the other way, sort of triangle,
she stopped at the top of the triangle chatting out of her car window
all of us waiting behind!

@HarleenCpr what is the picture for?

I’ve reported it

pelargoniums · 20/03/2025 06:39

This is what the school run is for, playing arsehole bingo. Our county has a good reporting website for shopping drivers who go over the pavement; as we walk in, I’m usually able to get a good few on video each morning and enjoy dobbing them in over a cup of tea before I start work.

Spam/catfishing. Like Mumsnet posters are going to private message an attractive woman. 😁

Phase2 · 20/03/2025 07:38

Oh wow with the picture I feel really out of touch! The message was sort of on topic. Never occurred to me it was some weird catfish !

Are you new to parenthood or just moved near to a school?!!
School mothers think they are the only road users and entitled to stop wherever and whenever they want, no warnings or fucks given.

HelenWheels · 20/03/2025 07:44

just yesterday a mum was holding up traffic to let her cycling children cross, when i didnt react quick enough to stop, she did a V sign at me!

TickingAlongNicely · 20/03/2025 07:48

We have a pick up zone outside the Secondary school. Works fine as relatively few are picked up by car, parents can also use the car park, and everyone respects the school buses.

Then it the Yr/8 dusco. They insisted that everyone needed picking up by a parent (even those who lived a 5 minute walk away, at 6pm....). The school is on the main road from the motorway to the village, so very busy at 6pm.

It just took a couple of idiots deciding to queue for the pick up bay (which takes 3oish cars) instead of just going to the car park for the whole village to come to a gridlock as there was no where for any cars stuck behind the queues to go.

It made the Primary parents look almost sensible. All they do is mount pavements and park on the grassy areas beneath the No Parking signs.

PrincessOfPreschool · 20/03/2025 07:55

We had an SUV which always parked on a corner, up a kerb, right opposite the school entrance. Those who had parked more considerately trying to get out of the side road couldn't see a thing.

Generally with driving it's the attitude of 'I'm more important than you' which gives me the rage. People cutting in, pushing in etc. Even cyclists where it's their right of way but they are cycling a good metre from the pavement (or even two abreast at times, having a chat) and there is constant oncoming traffic so you're stuck for ages following them with no pulling over to allow traffic to pass.

So a mum safely trying to get her children across the road was angry you weren't paying attention and almost didn't brake when pedestrians were in the road? Hmm I wonder why she swore at you?

it wasnt a pedestrian crossing, would you do a V sign at a car not immediately responding to your crossing? it wasnt even a safe place being the bottom of a hill

🙈 look at the hierarchy of the roads, pedestrians come first, even on the road

Danikm151 · 20/03/2025 08:46

My son’s school is constantly warning parents about parking inconsiderately.
One parent blocked the gates so the bin collection couldn’t happen last week.

i know, a side road, not a main road, surely? so people can just walk out in front of cars and risk an accident, i dont have confidence in the white van behind me tbh

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/03/2025 09:21

And people always say "why would you choose to live in London" - well, it being the norm for 90% of children to walk to school is one good reason I can think of!
