3K a month benefits

applecrumble03 · 19/03/2025 10:22

I had made a previous post which I believe had been taken down over a lady giving me £10 for no reason, in no way was that post to brag about my benefits I had stated how much I get a month to show I’m not struggling for money so the only reason can be I was judged on my appearance and then someone had asked if this is benefits which I said yes as I have no reason to lie. I have read a few notifications on my drop down and people saying I’m doing this to wind people up and there is no way I get 3K a month benefits, I was asking a genuine question. Some comments were quite rude. So here is how -

Universal credit for me and 2 kids plus LCWRA
£1775 - my rent gets taken straight from this I get paid £1225
high rate adult disability payment £734
Child disability payment x2 £868
Child benefit £42 a week
Scottish child payment £213

minus rent £3208 paid directly to me per month.

Now no this is not fair to people who have to work. However they are able bodied people and it’s not my fault I would much rather be healthy and live a normal life.

I don't know anyone in Scotland who gets a free cleaner.

That sounds like abject nonsense to me

AdventureCode · 19/03/2025 10:44

I can never understand how people can get worked up about this.
I'm glad as a disabled person you are supported to live your life if you aren't able to work. I'm also glad you're given more to also then get the help your disabled children need. I hope it's enough for you.

We are one of the richest countries in the world and to see people now feeling entitled to pick over what the vulnerable people should or shouldn't deserve to get is unbelievable. People are cross at the wrong things.

You hope 52k is enough?

We’re not one of the richest countries in the world, in part because of this.

A non-disabled parent and 2 non-disabled children don't need £3200 a month (after rent/mortgage) to cover household bills and general living expenses.

Would you be happy to share how much your disabilities cost per month in monetary terms?

Gingerkittykat · 19/03/2025 10:46

ZookeeperSE · 19/03/2025 10:28

Presumably you’re in Scotland? Are disability benefits devolved? Will there be any changes in assessment alongside the Westminster government plan for disability benefits overhaul?

Adult disability payment and child disability payment are devolved but are pad at the same rates as DLA and PIP and the scoring very similar. The funding for those benefits will go down in line with the Westminster payments but no idea if they will change anything there.

UC is not devolved so the changes will be UK wide.

Nobody on this thread has got upset over how much the OP is getting! It’s a questionable thread to say ‘I get 3k in my account’ ok???

What a disgusting thing to say about 2 disabled children.

CrookShanx · 19/03/2025 10:46

This is one of those scenarios where context is everything. There are some disabilities which would mean that money is necessary, and many where it isn’t.

Butchyrestingface · 19/03/2025 10:46

ScienceFanGirl · 19/03/2025 10:43

I wondered that too. In fact I've reported it.

The last one was removed for troll hunting with a very stern message from MNHQ so I'd maybe keep that trigger finger at bay for now.

Charcadet · 19/03/2025 10:47

Does it matter how much some one gets if they're entitled to it?. Some will get more, some will get less. It doesn't mean that the government should be targeting disabled people. Perhaps they should be looking at the likes of Thames Water (they don't have to take on the debt to renationalise it) or Michelle Mone's private yacht.

kitchentablegardentable · 19/03/2025 10:47

what disabilities do you and your children have?

how do you spend your £3k per month? Especially as you get a cleaner and carer for free? What do you spend that helps with the disabilities?

I have completely sympathy for people with disabilities however I can’t see that the government throwing money at them really helps.

ZoggyStirdust · 19/03/2025 10:48

Rosybud88 · 19/03/2025 10:28

You’d have to earn just under £52k to get that if you were working 😬

It’s more than that, as this is after the rent has been paid. I’d guess that’s around another 10k so this is equivalent to a salary of over 60k

MidnightPatrol · 19/03/2025 10:48

Hard to have a reasonable opinion on this without understanding the extent of yours and your children’s disabilities.

Albeit - the overall value of your awards might point towards why there is a problem which needs addressing.

Kneeboobs · 19/03/2025 10:48

I'd much rather have my health and my children to be healthy and able to live a full life.

Happypeoplearehappy · 19/03/2025 10:48

You do have to put it into perspective how much do disabled and vulnerable children cost the tax payer in full time care? Much more than 52k a year.

We all benefit from living in a society one way or another.

Upsetbetty · 19/03/2025 10:29

It’s not your business quite frankly, I’m sure the OP and her children face difficulties in life owing to them all being disabled thus she gets money to support with this

Why would they be in full time care?

JanglingJack · 19/03/2025 10:49

I saw your post and didn't question - I wouldn't!
I said old ladies used to love giving son a pound on the bus when I was a 21 year old Mum.

Nobody even looked at me when had 2nd at 33 🤣

You don't need to explain yourself @applecrumble03 and yes, it's odd... It must be an old tradition... I'll probably be doing it in 10 years 😂

PeachPumpkin · 19/03/2025 10:49

I believe you, OP. I’ve actually seen higher than yours.

We are in a cost of living crisis, with many working people relying on food banks and unable to afford to heat their homes, so of course someone divulging they get the equivalent of 52k a year in benefits is going to ruffle feathers. I don’t think most people would want to see OP and her family suffer, but receiving over 3k a month in benefits as well as other freebies and additional help seems a tad excessive.

If we sold the yacht, how many benefit claims do you think this would cover? And for how long? (Not that we can seize private property)

I think that really depends on what exactly the disabilities are tbh.

I don’t think the 7.4 million people claiming some form of disability benefit would need full time care otherwise.

What a disgusting thing to say about 2 disabled children.

I don’t think it’s disgusting at all, it’s the reality. One of OP’s children is 17, she’s going to have to think of alternative means to raise income.
