My uncle went on 15-1 and then a week later met Paul McCartney in the street. Not sure who would’ve felt more privileged.

Flumperina · 16/03/2025 13:20

My niece met Elon Musk - that did actually happen, she was dating someone who was a business associate.

My Dad met Bono from U2 but he wasn't really sure who he was and told me he'd met Bonio, which I'm pretty sure was a dog biscuit!

Not a relative, I met our late Queen, shook her hand and chatted to her.

jewelcase · 16/03/2025 13:39

I met Princess Anne twice, several years apart and in two completely different contexts. She remembered me the second time though, which I found absolutely remarkable given the numbers of people she must meet randomly every week. I’m completely un memorable as well. Nothing remarkable about why she met me, just the usual community worthy stuff.

DM has met Ringo Starr, and used to see Antony Hopkins through a mural friend on a fairly regular basis.

DDad did some work for Richard Branson in the 1970s.

madaffodil · 16/03/2025 16:11

King George V and Queen Mary.

Oh yes, and I once met Red Rum.

@jewelcase DMiL has also met Princess Anne briefly, twice. Longer the first time, and she also remembered her the second time. Remarkable.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 16/03/2025 16:23

That is remarkable about Princess Anne! Quite a skill!

DH has met Princess Anne and Prince Philip a reasonable amount. I don't know if PA remembered him any of the times though. His Prince P story is that Prince P stood on his foot at a ball they were at (there were LOTS of people though). Apparently it was very painful and DH felt very embarrassed and a bit gauche as he was quite young and had not been to many balls. This was about 30 years ago mind.

My mother met Nelson Mandela

poetryandwine · 16/03/2025 17:05

My parents were having a cocktail at a nice pub in Copenhagen, talking to the barman (in English) about how much they liked the city.

The next table was occupied by a handsome fellow on his own. As he got up to leave (joined by a couple of discreet men from the bar) he stopped to chat with my parents for a couple of minutes. He was charming.

Turned out to be Prince, now King, Frederik.

weegiemum · 16/03/2025 17:06

My dh has met 2 famous “red carpet” type people through work (he’s a GP). Sadly that means I can’t know who they are cos of confidentiality, though I can guess because of where he works. He’d never tell!

MrsJamesHetfield · 16/03/2025 17:26

We exchanged pleasantries with a familiar looking local couple, both of whom were keen to enquire about our family activity before moving on with their walk. They then stopped and chatted again on their return.
We saw them once more that evening too, just on the local news this time - Judi Dench and Jim Broadbent!
