My dad said he met Dave spikey once

My son met the Irish rugby team this morning at the airport. He was delighted! I’m afraid I’m unlikely to have recognized them! He also met the Queen when he was a toddler.

DH met the Queen (work related).

I met Prince Andrew once but that’s not going to impress anyone. He was very boring.

My mum's neighbour was an au pair in central London in the 60s. Her employer knew Paul McCartney. While she was out with her charge in a central London park, Paul McCartney by and the little boy she was looking after started talking to him. Paul then got chatting to DM's neighbour and invited her to a party.

My dad used to often see Kenneth Williams in London.

DC2 and I met Noel Fitzpatrick and Joe Sugg. We met Noel at an Italian restaurant after the London Marathon and we bumped into a Joe at Belfast airport and got chatting,

Ex boyfriend of mine years ago was RAF intelligence, he met Prince Philip at a reception and said he was very funny.
He also met Andrew and said he seemed very pleasant (this was long before any scandal).

Laska2Meryls · 16/03/2025 17:55

Going back a bit, but I once had a fairly long friendly chat in the local fish market with a bloke and his wife.. After we left DH said ,' you do know who that was?' I said ' Yes, that was so and so from environmental health at work .. No he said , it was Jimmy Hill ! ( He seemed to know about about fish and the local power station drain problem anyway! ) ..

Bunch of losers.

I’m actually related to Noddy Holder and see him often, so I’m like actual royalty in the midlands.

SmokeyBlue · 16/03/2025 18:00

I have a family member who quite regularly meets famous people through their line of work. They don’t brag about it though.

Rictasmorticia · 16/03/2025 18:01

Bob Geldof’s dog. Bob geldolf was in the lift that my DH was in about to be interviewed at his office. DH managed to stroke it. He said it was very friendly unlike its master. Has never stopped talking about it.

Runningoutofpatiencefucksandmoney · 16/03/2025 18:05

My cousin is part of the security team that looks after a women's football team

ohtowinthelottery · 16/03/2025 18:15

DH has met Queen Camilla - (although it was before she was Queen) and Prince William. Weve also both met and spoken to the Duchess of Gloucester.@madaffodil We also met Red Rum in the early 1990's.
We've also met quite a few celebrity chefs.

MissAmbrosia · 16/03/2025 18:58

DH went to school with Topper Headon from the Clash. My stepmother used to go out with the guy who played Ford Prefect in the original HHGTTG. My Great Aunt was in Carry On Up the Khyber (as one of the women who came for Tiffin with Sid James) so she must be right up there😎😁

sunbum · 16/03/2025 19:01

I often brag that I met Kurt Cobain, which I did in 1990 or 91, can't remember which.

WearyAuldWumman · 16/03/2025 19:06

Not bragging...

My FIL and my late husband both worked on Balmoral Estate for a while. FIL primarily worked for King George VI and the Queen Mother. MIL got a letter of condolence from Clarence House, form the Queen Mother's equerry when FIL died. (By then, the monarch was Queen Elizabeth.)

DH primarily worked in the forestry division, but was also a ghillie. His favourite royal was the Queen, but he loved the Queen Mother too.

He went back to college and then to university to better himself. As he put it, at Balmoral he was "just waiting for dead men's shoes".

Speakingofdinosaurs · 16/03/2025 21:48

I’ve met and shaken the hand of Elton John and a work friend of mine went to school with George Michael and Andrew Ridgley.

JandamiHash · 16/03/2025 22:04

I have a mutual friend of the Princess of Wales 💁🏼‍♀️ she never talks about her though, except to say they’ve been to see them for a few days, and I don’t ask.

I once escorted Desmond Tutu to a church service at the National Cathedral in Washington DC.

Redrosesposies · 16/03/2025 23:14

Gary Glitter. He was playing at our town hall in 1972 and me and my mate couldn't afford the quid to get in so we went round the back and he hung out of the window chatting to us. We were 12..........😯

SpottedDonkey · 16/03/2025 23:19

SIL has known Zara Tindall for many years. They both compete in the equestrian sport of Eventing. At the higher levels, in particular, it’s a small world and everyone knows everyone else. They have the same trainers, enter the same competitions etc.

SIL doesn’t exactly brag about knowing Zara, or claim to be her best mate, but she does have her number & doesn’t try to play it down either.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/03/2025 23:36

A couple of Popes.

Onedancewontdo · 16/03/2025 23:58

I was on work experience very early 80’s and met rik mayal in the lift. Rik being rik let off a huge fart and as he was our biggest client no one else apart from me laughed. Led to a long friendship and many coincidences including when rik had his accident off-roading and my fil had a stroke being in ICU at the same time. The day before he died I was diagnosed with cancer and he sent me the most beautiful message I ever read. He was one of the most beautiful souls I ever met and his love for his family was unique xx

I met Princess Anne twice, several years apart and in two completely different contexts. She remembered me the second time though, which I found absolutely remarkable given the numbers of people she must meet randomly every week. I’m completely un memorable as well. Nothing remarkable about why she met me, just the usual community worthy stuff.

Because she is brilliant! She is the hardest working (and most personable) of them all, and as you found, has phenomenal recall.
I've met her. And Charles (when still a Prince). Also met Mo Mowlam!

HelenWheels · 17/03/2025 06:45

prince charles, as was,
dd did waitress service at buckingham palace, did not actually serve him but was working serving.
