Hail fellow X'ers.

We are never mentioned. It's always Boomers, Millennials or gen Z.

Why the fuck not?

We definitely exist, we were very cool people.

I have such good memories of my 70's childhood and teenage years in the 80's.

And all the goodness of the late 80s and early 90s.

It did happen didn't it?

There needs to be a new category. I'm going to call it the 'X - Men' because I was born in 83 and definitely more Gen X than the later Millennials. Definitely got into the raising teenagers, dealing with elderly parents whilst working full time with a shockingly inadequate pension plan category.

We have a title! We are Xennials. Special enough to be a micro generation that doesn't quite fit the pop culture parameters for either X or Y, but who are a bit of both.

I could cook a roast dinner for 8 at the age of 12. I was babysitting my younger brother and stepsister at 9. You bet we were awesome. Still are.

This. I cannot understand how so many seem totally stressed by doing Christmas dinner for like 4 people.

At 11, I picked up my siblings from my granny and brought them home, set them to their homework and got dinner on the go.

I had my mum at home when younger and I knew how to cook from watching.

Now, I involve my children a lot, like getting them to squeeze mince into meatballs, or squish dough for pasta etc. They love it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/03/2025 22:20

Gen X , I'd say we are the most fearless. After having the bejesus scared out of us by the cold War nothing scared us again.💪

That's cos they're all a bit older now and want to have kids!

I'm a middle child, so used to being ignored 😂

Same

TheAlertFinch · 14/03/2025 22:20

Wtf?

I do not hate gay men btw.

But I do think that now gay male relationships are very acceptable.

As they should be.

I do think that gay men have just got down with the hetro men in the way that women are just an adjunct to what they want.

Hush! Let then keep not noticing us. I am so glad to have been born a Gen Xer and truly believe we are the luckiest (and coolest) generation of the current lot.

No chronic anxiety, no "mental health" days, I grew up without computers and phones, so I can manage without them, but still had them early enough that I learned to live with them (hell, I know how to put one together from scratch!), I grew up climbing tres and taking the dogs for walks in the forest by myself, I learned to be resilient, I overcame bullying and adapted to neurodivergence by myself without the need for drugs and weekly therapy for years, I have a career I love, I could afford to buy a house, I am assertive at work and can fight my fights (and almost often win). I chose not to have children when the decision was still almost a "fringe movement" and now I am admired and respected for my decision. I am happier than anyone else I know from any other generation, and still looking forward to a bunch of decades to enjoy.

Oh, and I may have a chance to enjoy this world before it goes to shit due to climate change/microplastics in the environment and our brain/insect mass extinction/shit politics/extreme misinformation causing wars etc etc. I don't envy generations after mine. or before mine, for all that.

Go Xers!

RedRosie · 14/03/2025 22:24

Hello. #MeAlso. Boomers for parents. Bloody Zs for kids. Nightmare.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/03/2025 22:27

I hear you op. I really do hear you! #bornin1967

NebulousWhistler · 14/03/2025 22:27

Would quite like a Boomer final salary pension though.
I wanted to be a Winona Ryder in Reality Bites.

whitenoisewave · 14/03/2025 22:28

Millennial here and I wish I was in my 20s during the 90s but still enjoyed my childhood. I never understood the boomers vs millienials battle until I met my in-laws 😂

Hello fellow Gen-Xers.

80s music was so scorned for so long, and now it’s being revered again. It was such a glamours decade, but also there was alot of ‘tribes’ - New Romantics, heavy metal etc. Today all the youth seem more similar.

The 80s really was the best decade for music.

Lesina · 14/03/2025 22:28

We are the ones just holding it all together. Ignored by our parents ignored by our children, just getting on with it. Into every generation a ‘welll, whole fucking generation of slayers is born, keep out of their way, they’ll sort it’.

SwanOfThoseThings · 14/03/2025 22:29

hammyhamster72 · 14/03/2025 21:26

Yes totally Gen X the only one to be - lush seventies childhood and being a teenager in the 80s what's not to love? My 22yo said recently she would have loved to have been a teen in the 80s 🥹 we didn't know how good we had it

I couldn't have put it better myself. I am not remotely a 'cool' person but I feel cool by association as a Gen X - we are the generation who see through all the bullshit; we are resilient thanks to our innate cynicism; even uncool people like me had wild moments back in the hedonistic 90s and we can smile at the Millennials and Gen Zs with all the wisdom of middle-age after a well lived youth.

minipie · 14/03/2025 22:29

Oooh I’m a Xennial (1980 baby)

If they’ve had to invent a title for us, doesn’t that mean they got the boundaries wrong in the first place? Whoever “they” are

Frostingle · 14/03/2025 22:30

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/03/2025 21:18

Oh, don't encourage them to bring that TikTok shite over here.

It's been a long week and I simply cannot be arsed with it all.

That video that starts with a Gen Z "Why don't we hold Gen X accountable?" Not a direct quote.

I'm pretty sure they specifically said to leave them the fuck alone @Mach3 That's why we don't talk about Gen X.

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/03/2025 22:30

Gen X here. Bloody hell we are made of tougher stuff. En-suite everything and touch of a button getting whatever you want just didn’t exist. We were so much switched on to what was going on in the world because the tv only had 3 then 4 channels before eventually channel 5 coming along. As others have mentioned, the Cold War and AIDS preoccupied moments in our history. And the test card was a fact of life, the automatic washing machine an alternative tv when we first got our first. Those were the days. Bland food, boredom and freedom on a scale not known to any generation following us. Power to the Gen Xers.

Let's talk about gen X because no other bugger does.

ZookeeperSE · 14/03/2025 22:04

Careful what you wish for. Once all of the Baby Boomers are gone, they’re going to start hating us……(for reasons I can’t even fathom right now).

Then us millennial's will become the invisible ones Blush

Bland food only for UK Gen Xers, mind you. I grew up in Spain with an abundance of delicious, colourful, healthy, cooked-from-scratch food from my mum, grandma and aunties. The first McDonald's opened in my town when I was 16. I went once and was horrified that anyone would consider that "food".

Bannedontherun · 14/03/2025 22:32

Honestly I think gen X are the only ones not in the firing line and constantly getting ripped to shreds so I’d keep quiet in the corner if I were you 😂
