Firstly - I rang 111 and am waiting a call back from a dr as they were all busy, I absolutely will be taking their advice.

I'm just panicky and come here in case anyone can reassure me or tell me what will happen.

I have recently started adhd medication and usually take a tablet first thing in the morning. I'm in my second week, take 30mg first thing.

I've just taken one now 😬😬. A couple of years ago I took meds at night and I usually take magnesium at night and I went into autopilot.

Its a stimulant. At best it's going to keep me up all night isn't it.

At worst... It's an amphetamine. I'm actually really scared. I'm hoping because it's a starting dose me doubling up won't be dangerous but I'm ready to go to a and E.

I hope I don't have a heart attack or something.

I don't want to Google. I'm scared.

Why would you have a heart attack?

DownWhichOfLate · 11/03/2025 22:27

Is it Elvanse? Google says max of 70mg per day so you should be fine!

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 11/03/2025 22:28

I'm just really panicky and I know its a stimulant so doubling up it's going to raise blood pressure and heart rate. I honestly don't know what that dose but I'm scared it could be bad.

I'm talking myself down that some people would be on this dose... But you titrate up slowly so I'm doubling this early on.

Im hoping it "just" means I'm up all night. I haven't been sleeping and so could do without a night of buzzing but I am hoping that's "all" it is.

I'm quite panicky.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 11/03/2025 22:29

Oh yes it's elvanse. So yes it's under the maximum dose isn't it so it might not be fun but it's not going to actually damage me is it?

I was thinking I might have to go to A and E. It will be easier if I ride it out at home as long as I know what to look for.

I hope they ring back soon.

You probably will have difficulty sleeping, happens - a friend with ADHD accidently took her meds again in the evening, mistaking the pill for a painkiller and she didn't get much sleep. Which is annoying, but ultimately not dangerous.

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 11/03/2025 22:32

You might get headache, feel a little panicky -rapid heart rate, faster breathing - weepy or short tempered. It will pass in a matter of hours. Otherwise you will be fine. Drink some orange or grapefruit juice if you have it to reduced the absorption.

EtA you might also feel nothing different at all. Panicking won't help though.

DownWhichOfLate · 11/03/2025 22:32

Find something calming to distract yourself if possible. Have you had any side effects from your usual dose?

CalicoPusscat · 11/03/2025 22:36

You sound a bit hyper but highly doubt it will damage you. Hopefully 111 will call back soon.

TrickyD · 11/03/2025 22:39

I overdosed similarly on my heart tablets and, panicking, rang my GP friend asking if I would die.

Answer: You will certainly die, but probably not today.

He added that I might feel a bit lightheaded, which I did not, and am still alive about 15 years on.

You will probably be with us tomorrow, OP.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 11/03/2025 22:39

Thankyou all.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to have done it.

I so could do without this. As soon as I did it I realised and wished I could make myself sick.

I can't work tomorrow if I'm literally up all night I don't think. It's a public job delivering training. But they won't get the message in time I'm not coming 😬.

Havign to stay up is better than having to go to A and E.

I honestly felt like as its an amphetamine I'd just overdosed on soemthing really dangerous.

Your posts are helping me to calm!

Hot milk, podcast, have a lie down. You will get some sleep eventually!

SnuffleTruffleHound · 11/03/2025 22:42

You'll be absolutely fine.
if you were at risk of a heart attack you wouldn't be on stimulants.
like you say, at worst you'll be up all night.

owlyboo · 11/03/2025 22:44

My son is on ADHD medication. I once accidentally gave him his morning meds again instead of his nighttime meds. He didn't sleep all night but other than that was fine. (They had debated doubling his dose so I knew it wasn't an overdose issue luckily) I hope you manage to get some rest

WilfredsPies · 11/03/2025 22:46

There’s no guarantee you’ll be up all night; the panic has probably you feel quite jittery and alert. Have some warm milk, lay in bed and listen to a meditation thing on your phone. You’ll be away with the fairies before you know it.

30mg of a stimulant? I wouldn’t call that an overdose. I wouldn’t worry about it. I would be worried about stimulant abuse. If it’s truly accidental just spend the next few hours doing something like cleaning the cubbards and don’t make the mistake again.

TheShadowOfTheWizard · 11/03/2025 22:50

Check the leaflet. It will have a section telling you exactly what to do if you accidentally overdose. You can get pill boxes which could be helpful. Look up pill organiser. I take meds 3 times a day and make up 3 weeks worth at a time. None of this - have I haven't I. I keep them beside bed, put today's pill box away (once all taken) and bring out the next day for tomorrow.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 11/03/2025 22:51

Thankyou all so much. I've claimed down. The fact the gp didn't ring me back straight away has made me realise it's not urgent as well and given me time to clam down.

I was so anxious anyway. 2 shit days at work and hadn't been sleeping and I felt overwhelmed and was just going to bed hoping a good nights sleep would fix some things., I'm an idiot 😬.

Great to hear people's reassurance thankyou.

Realistically it's a stimulant/amphetamine do when it kicks in soon I'm going to be buzzing aren't I. But also tired?? I can't believe people do this for fun.

Truly accidental hence the completw panic I went into. I rang 111 in a state and then posted on here. Feeling much calmer now but could do without being up all night

I guess my actual gp and adhd provider will have some questions how I'm so stupid 😳.

I might make a list of things to do if I'm up all night!!

I'm not going to be able to work tomorrow am I??

I assume I skip tomorrow mornings dose and start again the day after but I'll ask the 111 person when they call backm

OP posts:
Chonk · 11/03/2025 23:01

I don't see why you can't work tomorrow, even if you're tired.

roycroppersshopper · 11/03/2025 23:06

I take 50mg Elvanse daily. I also took one at night by accident too. I managed to puke it up as I knew I'd be up all night otherwise. It lasts 13 hours so your morning dose will have worn off anyway by now so it's not really an overdose.

I hope you get some sleep. Don't have alcohol now that would be a v bad idea.

SaveMeFromMyBoobs · 11/03/2025 23:06

Not a medic but you sound so panicked you'll likely have symptoms from your panicking more than the medication!

Is your BP and heart rate up? Of course, you're freaking out! Try and calm down. If a one off doubling was enough to kill you it wouldn't be approved safety wise due to the risk.
