Guilty pleasure TV shows

What are some shows you love but you know you shouldn’t?

Mine are mostly 00/10s reality shows that I rewatch when I don’t fancy starting something new. Things like My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, Four Weddings, Airline, the car crash one with Lisa Scott Lee! Jersey Shore was also a firm favourite. Total garbage but so nostalgic.

Landscape artist of the year, definitely a guilty pleasure, it is quite fun in a very low key way. And of course the judges rarely like the paintings I like!

Haven't watched it for years but when DS was little I was completely hooked on Diagnosis Murder.

Used to watch this in a double bill with Neighbours after finishing sixth form every afternoon. Those were the days!

2 point 4 Children on Thats TV
Drop the Dead Donkey on Rewind TV
Two best comedies from the 90s

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills - still watch now, but prefer earlier seasons. Bring on the Amsterdam glass smashing with Lisa Rinna
Old episodes of TOWIE - the Lucy/Mario days
Old episodes of Made in Chelsea - the Maeva/Miles days
Selling Sunset
Can’t get into MAFS believe it’s addictive, though.

Gogglebox

QVC

QVC. Had friends who worked there of a weekend as teenagers on the call lines and some of the customer tales were hilarious!
Still get my Elemis from there love it!
Back in the day used to get my OPI and Liz Earle.
There used to be an American make up lady who’d come on with a bare face and rollers in and she’d do her face as the hour rolled on. She was great value.
Remember the golden era of Debbie Greenwood too!

Nip/Tuck was amazing.
Also - Dawson’s Creek. I rewatch it every few years and I’m mid 50’s. I will be Gram before I know it. Always loved Pacey.
Add to that - Beverly Hills 90210. Used to watch it with my mum every Sunday. Ashamed to say I still have them all on DVD.

'Supersize v super skinny'
As well as cleaning programmes, these types were on my list.

Nip/Tuck was mental 😱 As was Desperate Housewives 🙃

Ah Dawson's Creek . . happy memories of watching that at 6pm (?) on a Saturday!

the80sweregreat · 12/03/2025 20:57

Extreme makeover was good.
Some people didn't actually look like themselves after all that and the US version was even more extreme.

Alittlegreenwhale · 12/03/2025 21:34

Sounds strange, but at the moment, documentaries are a bit of a comfort watch (even when the subject matter shouldn't be so perhaps guilty pleasure in that way!).

Elderflower14 · 13/03/2025 10:07

We used to love watching Strange But True with Michael Aspel and 999 with Michael Burke. Both on a Friday night.
I always remember that the theme musics gave me goosebumps.
There was an episode of SBT on a building site with ghostly children singing Ring a ring of roses. ... Also an episode of 999 with someone trapped in a flooded car.
.

the80sweregreat · 13/03/2025 11:32

'Strange but true ' was good.
I do remember footage of an old castle door banging away and they were convinced it was a ghost!! Long before the internet or any chance it was a set up ( although it may have been)
Fortean times with a Reverend presenting it was also good.

BigFatLiar · 13/03/2025 11:37

Antiques roadshow. Can't believe some of the stuff people buy.

That was Fortean TV with Reverend Lionel Fanthorpe.

I know... I watch them.. ♥️

Classical100 · 13/03/2025 13:41

Many of the reality programmes - usually in the middle of the night when I can't sleep.

The Force...Manchester, North East…everywhere else 😆, Teen Mums...OG, new g, every g😆 and 16 and pregnant.

Also like the American shows about prisons and prisoners and (UK) Parole.

My favourite at the minute is Baylon Out Loud about a young lady with tourettes.

You should try The Extraordinaty, also on YouTube if you haven't already. It's basically an Australian Strange But True? It's got an amazing ghost story from Telly Savalas.

JeanPaulGagtier · 13/03/2025 13:46

Married At Furst Sight and Love Is Blind. Love that you get to be a fly on the wall and I often feel men should watch them for pointers! The amount of guys on there that do the same things over and over and wonder why they are single...then you get some faith restored seeing the decent ones.

Elderflower14 · 13/03/2025 15:19

There was a programme many years ago when people met in a dark room. They then had to decide whether to meet or leave the house... Cant remember the name.

peachgreen · 13/03/2025 15:24

9-1-1 and all its various offshoots. I devour them.

tobee · 13/03/2025 16:08

Air Crash Investigation

Nothing to Declare/Stop Search Seize etc - particularly the Australian version with people bringing in all kinds of prohibited food items and the Irish with Bruce Heller. Wow he's scary!

Road Wars

Monkey Life - saved dd & me during lockdown ☺️

However, these are all repeated endlessly; seen episodes multiple times

Oh and 24 Hours in A&E and Inside the Ambulance
