What’s the worst beauty tip you’ve ever received?

Inspired by the “what is the best beauty tip you’ve received” thread, I wonder about the opposite….

What is the most useless, unhelpful beauty tip you have ever received?

I’m torn between being advised to sit in the sun with tomato ketchup in my hair years ago to bring out the highlights (it didn’t and was v sticky), and the first time I fake tanned but didn’t know to wear mitts when applying and ended up with conker coloured palms for 2 weeks.

yes I liked that too but like you said the sachets were impossible to open. I remember taking them swimming then trying to rip them open in the shower after my swim and getting a mouth full of shampoo!

I did exactly the same and apart from getting a mouth full of shampoo I remember been disappointed that it didn't taste like beer 😁

I have to wash my hair every day or it looks awful. The exception was during and for about 3 to 4 years after pregnancy, when once every two days was fine. I was very disappointed when it gradually returned to its normal again.

absolutely detest vasaline.
it's a jelly jelly doesn't soak into your skin it just sits there.
8 hour day cream is far better and a little goes the way

It doesn't need to sink in. It's an occlusive. It keeps the hydration in and protects the skin.

So it doesn't add moister to your skin then so therefore no good for dry skin or lips ?It also clogs your pores and cause spots .

It keeps in the moisture so yes, it does moisturise. In my experience, it doesn't cause spots.

It only keeps it in so if your lips and dry and need moisture then no good, you need a moisture replenishing lip balm -

It is not comedogenic and therefore doesn’t not cause spots. Not a single study has demonstrated it causes spots

Same here, but with shandy ice lollies - off topic on my own topic!
11 year old me was very disappointed that I didn’t get roaring drunk.

Aah I’m getting mixed up. Sorry ScottBakula,
although you do indeed have an awesome username I was actually swooning over Scott Baio from Charles in Charge. Oh yeah.

I don't think I tried the shandy ice lollies but I also hoped I'd get drunk on tins of Bass shandy . Nope didn't happen, despite drinking several cans one after the other.

Ooh I like Scott baio in happy days.

I don't particularly fancy Scott bakula, but I loved the American time travel show he was in playing Sam Beckett, called Quantum Leap
