Small things that make you happy

My dog is really itchy at the moment and I was recommended a treatment called Thornit powder.

The instructions were written as if it was the 1950s. There was something really heartening and comforting about it!

The never ending awful weather has my mental health so down at the moment and irritable with little things.
However the small snipped of sunshine yesterday made a huge difference, like the fog was lifted and serotonin was just flowing (silly I know) but it truly made me feel so different..

Getting in to bed after a night shift. It always feels so luxurious!

Redheadedstepchild · 07/03/2025 18:37

I kind of refer you to my just started thread about Zippo lighters now making off the peg reading glasses on sale in French newsagents and tobaccanists. As if the survivors of the Serge Gainsbourg generation of chain smokers are now buying magnifying specs to read high minded 'littérature' in cafés.

It's been mentioned on a few posts but the £1 bunches of daffodils that are around at the moment that slowly open make me so happy

Oh my gosh yes. Feels like we've forgotten what the sun is!

@TheTwirlyPoos

I should have put a big cuddle from my DS but it was something I truly felt omg I feel like I've never felt warmth on my face for god knows how long 🥲

MummytoE · 07/03/2025 18:41

On the walk to the kids school there is a small grassy area. Spring flowers have started to appear in yellow , purple and white. It really cheers me up every morning seeing them. I went for a walk the other day and could feel the sun on my back. You don't realize how much you miss these wee things until the are back x

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully lots more sunshine soon? Have you tried a SAD lamp?

Walks in countryside with dog and partner on a Sunday day.

Cheese and crackers with a cuppa.

A lovely meal out or cooking at home.

A night out with friends

IAmLadyWhistledown · 07/03/2025 18:51

@LushLemonTart

I haven't no but I've been meaning to look into them.

I have been putting off seeing the GP about it for a few years as it's not so much seasonal related, I just noticed the sun and warmth really made the difference x

Mokka pot coffee every day
Bed with very heavy blanket and eye mask. No bed companion! Bliss

Redheadedstepchild · 07/03/2025 18:56

Phoning my mum. She's 84 and it's been a rocky road at times with her but she's quite unexpectedly mellowed with age, which people would have you believe never happens. Every day counts as they get older.

This is lovely. I lost my mum last year and I miss those nice times.

When everyone goes off to bed and I've got the remote control / TV to myself and settle down to watch my favourite shows with a snack.
Peace,

Nice thread Smile Currently, the spring flowers on a sunny day, doing the school run in jeans & jumper & trainers rather than puffer coat, thermals & wellies.

Playing badminton in the garden after school instead of rushing indoors to towel off the rain.

Painting my nails coral pink or bright blue instead of previous autumnal colours.

Seeing the birds bring twigs to the nesting boxes and in general the bird song throughout the day, and having a coffee in the garden

Not having to de-ice the car this morning!

I saw them for 60p - bargain for their gorgeousness

Bin day. My life is so exciting ☺️

Purplepandabears · 07/03/2025 19:03

The feeling when you try to skim a stone and it just "boops" perfectly off the water.

Filling the bird feeders and watching all the birds come flying in for their food always cheers me up at this time of year. Watching them all queuing for their turn, perched on the shrubbery is great. Also, getting my dog out for a run and being able to go out in T shirt and shorts! First time this year!

And cake. Cake always makes me happy, but I have to ration myself otherwise the sight of the scales would NOT make me happy.

Badbadbunny · 07/03/2025 19:07

This time of year when I walk past our local churchyard to see a carpet of crocuses and snowdrops covering the entire ground around the church and cemetery. It's a sign that Spring is here and the winter is over. Best time of year for me. It's quite a sight. Only beaten by a visit to Keukenhof tulip gardens in the Netherlands at Easter.

Maddy70 · 07/03/2025 19:12

My dog starts wagging his tail when he can sense I'm about to wake up and edges slowly really really close to see if I'm awake and is so happy to find I'm alive ;)
