Kyle Clifford - does it make you think the death penalty in some cases might be right?

Read about Kyle Clifford's crimes and although for most of my life objected to the death penalty actually found it difficult to find reasons in this case not to have it. I really just couldn't think of justification for keeping the guy alive as there. Is no hope of redemption, reformation or education leading to a man being able to renenter scoiety. We would be in a position of keeping someone alive for pets face it the ideological reasons we don't believe it is rig h for the state to forcibly take a life.

Maybe my mind might change but reading about that blokes crimes I think sometimes you do forfeit the right to life.

I think he will try to top himself again.

I pity the prison staff who have to.help.him everyday as he's in a wheelchair.
Presume he needs lifting into.bed and showers etc. Jeez they need an award for doing this.
You just wouldn't want to help.him, would you after what he has done?

We are quick to put animals down if they attack/kill someone.
Why are humans so different.

I despair sometimes.

@PassingStranger years ago I knew someone who was a prison warden (and an exemplary one from all accounts) who said that a couple of their colleagues were almost as unpleasant as some of the inmates they were in charge of. I have no idea if that's still the case or not, but if so he may not always have a comfortable experience.

Because it keeps them compliant and more willing to engage.

So would a cattle prod and it would be cheaper

No.

I have enough faith in the British justice system that this would be stunningly unlikely.

Tell that to the sub postmasters.

Carry on despairing then.

It's true, an animal only has to bite a human and it's put down.
Yet humans do the most disgusting and evil things to each other and arent?

Edited

I've heard that a lot of prison warders can be right bullies and they take pleasure out of winding up the inmates. I expect some of them may well be sadists themselves.

What gets me is that when animals attack like that it's often the humans that have screwed them up. So yeah it's different with those who choose to commit heinous crimes. Unless they did them under duress then they are to blame.

Exactly, he's destroyed a man's family, how does one even begin to come to terms with the brutal murders of two daughters and his wife.😡

Still haven't explained why an animal can be put down for biting a human or several humans but a human being can Slaughter people and isn't.

Yes, I can see how the position of power would appeal to someone with that mindset. I guess the prison service is so understaffed that a lot of turning blind eyes goes on too.

Yes but with all the prisoners rights today, they can be compensated if they are attacked.
Joke isn't it.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 09/03/2025 23:35

If you need that to be explained to you, there is no hope for you being any form of decent human being.

Tbh, I think (hope) you are taking the piss at this stage.

You don’t need a 🔮 to know that!

I don't know, if a prison warder is behaving like that, that's kind of stopping to a fraction of the criminal 's level, isn't it? Two wrongs don't make a right.

They can get compensation if they are attacked by other prisoners. Huntley did.

Yes, of course that's the answer rather than your lack of humanity and your pretence at not knowing the difference between people and animals not being worth addressing.

riceuten · 10/03/2025 10:15

Lucy Letby would indubitably have been hanged for her ‘crimes’ (as would the Guildford 4 and Birmingham 6, and sundry other people subsequently proved innocent) - if that’s not an argument against the death penalty, I don’t know what is. It’s a primitive, medieval reaction that panders to the lowest common denominator.

So it’s OK to attack certain types of prisoner?
