what one-off extravagant purchases do you have ? *not a gloating thread*

A friend of a friend lives in Greece and has recently brought themselves an underwater sea scooter. A top of the range one. They are not well off by any means, but could afford to treat themselves to this. It looks a real smart piece of kit.

It got me thinking, we don't have any one-off extravagant purchases. Not that you have to have any, of course. There has just never been anything we have really wanted, with the exception of a new car. But this thread is not about buying to that level.

Solar panels on the roof, I log onto the app to see what they are doing most days, multiple times on sunny days and very frequently this time of year when the sun is a novelty.

Tooty78 · 05/03/2025 16:38

Lens replacement, use them every day😆

Arran2024 · 05/03/2025 16:40

My Raymond Weil watch. I love it and wear it every day.

In 2007, we got a pedigree lab puppy. Money was tight as I was SAHM with my young kids (6 m and 2 )

Sadly, he died aged 13 in 2020.

He was worth every penny as the memories made were priceless. We have photos of him everywhere 😍

Thameslock · 05/03/2025 16:40

Just spent 22K on a nice little used Mercedes clk200. For perspective, Worked from age 17 now 64 and diagnosed with a heart condition so retiring next year! Hope to spend the money rather than leaving it to the kids!!

ShowAndGo · 05/03/2025 16:41

Sage Impress Express machine, bought from the Sage reconditioned store for about £500 in a late night moment of lockdown madness. Used nearly every day and brings as much caffeinated joy as I hoped it would. On a lesser level, the locally roasted beans to go with it.

Also £3k on Invisalign to fix my wonky teeth; I secretly hoped it would break my snacking habit and lead to effortless weight loss. It didn't, but my teeth look a lot better.

Ihopeyouhavent · 05/03/2025 16:42

My 3 Persian cats that we got during lockdown when i had much more money!

And my Mulberry and LV handbags, one which ive had for 30yrs plus.

Wotrewelookinat · 05/03/2025 16:44

Brand new campervan. Always bought 2nd hand cars and bikes before, but heading towards retirement and decided to treat ourselves with DH redundancy money.

RomeoRivers · 05/03/2025 16:45

A proper hot tub and a trip to the Maldives next week- so excited!

housethatbuiltme · 05/03/2025 16:45

Children... literally IVF is extortionately priced when everyone else seems to get there kid for free after a few minutes of fun. I couldn't imagine life without my kids though.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 05/03/2025 16:45

Singapore Airlines Business Class seats from Seattle to Singapore. 18 hour flight.

Dollydaydream100 · 05/03/2025 16:46

Love the sound of an Arab horse ❤️

Apart from property probably our cars (Range Rovers).

Most expensive holiday was staying at Sandy Lane in Barbados - hoping that won't be a one off though!

I worked out the other day that by the time the dcs leave school we'll have spent approximately £600K on school fees 😓

Ugghhthathouse · 05/03/2025 16:46

Does a house with in ground pool looking onto the Med count? Hated the country, the house was freezing in the winter and the animal cruelty was a daily hell. Left after 16 months, took a year to sell.

beadystar · 05/03/2025 16:47

My Le Creuset Dutch oven. It's a lot for a pot but I love it.

Angelofmycoins · 05/03/2025 16:48

Boobs

Velmy · 05/03/2025 16:48

I got a £900 pair of Bang & Olufsen headphones a few years ago as a 'one off', and recently upgraded to the new model - £1300 👀 I have a Astell&Kern music player (basically a Hi-Res walkman) that I spent £3k on, and I pay £20 a month for Tidal for Hi-Res music streaming/downloads.

I listen to music every day so I get a lot of enjoyment/use out of it, and I'm a massive nerd so the quality really does make a difference to me.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! 😅

whatnooow · 05/03/2025 16:49

A Mercedes.

It's 8 years old this year and still looks brand new. I swiped my fingers over the bonnet just yesterday thinking how lucky I am to have it.

We also have a sage coffee machine and love it. Worth every penny.

Sage coffee machine.
V extravagant for us.
Used daily.

This for me too. Perhaps not as exciting as other people’s purchases but this machine brings me so much joy - I genuinely go to bed looking forward to my morning coffee 😂

Oldglasses · 05/03/2025 16:52

Years ago when we were DINKYs my DH bought a convertible BMW, not outright, but still... We had a fun car for a couple of years...

Sebsaloysius · 05/03/2025 16:52

Our Quooker boiling/fizzy water tap. If it was a choice between the DH or that - the tap comes first!

I spent £1,500 on a custom made oak drop leaf dining table and two matching benches. I couldn’t find anything I liked, so I decided to comission a joiner to create exactly what I wanted.

They’re worth every penny and they’ll last a lifetime 🥰

Also spent £3,000 on a once in a lifetime trip to New York over Christmas.

Edited

That doesn't actually sound too bad, when you think a macbook or some phones cost around the same and won't last nearly as long as a table. Plus the benches.

CoffeeWithHer · 05/03/2025 16:54

My Cartier bangle - gold with diamonds.
Flash bint 🤣

It actually is rather discreet, worn every day as it’s screwed on and I love it (and it was second hand as there was no way I was buying it direct from Cartier) - it’s increased in value too which is nice.

Also my Invisalign - worth every single penny.

But now it seems I need to start saving for one of those pool tables! They look amazing! (And also a new house as I actually don’t have the room 🤣)
