Normally I try not to read the news too much, as it makes me worried and I can’t do much about it

but since trump has buddied up with putin, it’s starting to get me quite worried about what the hell is going no to happen
again I suppose there’s not much I can do about it either way
si don’t really know what I’m really other than are you really worried too
and if you’re not what do you tend to say to yourself about it all ?

The world has been on a downward spiral since 9/11 and very soon after the advent of social media. Trump is just another chapter in the big decline of things really.

Catapultaway · 02/03/2025 07:55

What has actually happened since he became president?

Lovelysummerdays · 02/03/2025 08:02

I am worried, not in a day to day sense more if a sense of foreboding. I think that there has been an era of peace since the Soviet Union fell, obviously there have been smaller conflicts. The U.S.was the only superpower for a long time and we’ve become complacent with the status quo.

If the U.S. sides with Russia I do think life becomes much more difficult for Europe. Hard decisions will need to be made and the ramifications will effect my / my childrens future.

SallyWD · 02/03/2025 08:12

Very concerned.

SunshinDay · 02/03/2025 08:22

I honestly don't see saying his usual stuff about people which is positive, great guy stuff is budding up with putin.
As trump said, I can't say bad things about putin then get on the phone and say hey wanna make a deal.
I don't know why that's bad if it means he can get putin to the table and get a cease fire going and stop this war.
I don't believe putin wants to go further he may say that but he's massively fucked in Ukraine and that's with discreet eu support and USA support ie we are not directly at war with him.
One big issue has always been providing Ukraine with migs, planes... So if he touched a hair on the head of a nato country planes would flood to Moscow and a different level of military force would be unleashed.
Putin can't overcome the basics we are providing and that's just Ukraine troops so I don't believe for one moment he would go for anything else.

Obviously he's a mad dictator so maybe he would try but he wouldn't get anywhere and we do know that because in front of our eyes we see him not getting anywhere in Ukraine!!

It's right we need to look strong to putin and it's great everyone is rallying around zelensky and showing more £££ support hopefully we can show united and strong in the face of USA backing off
It's a good thing zelensky didn't sign his deal and held out. Maybe the USA will do even more favourable terms.
The terms right now are v good.

But ultimately it must stop because the stalemate can't be broken.

Wildflowers99 · 02/03/2025 08:25

On a scale of 1-10, I’m a 7/8 right now.

I’m ultimately worried about 2 things:

  1. A wider conflict.
  2. A culture of misinformation which results in the masses sleepwalking into living extremely substandard lives while being ruled by billionaire overlords.
SunshinDay · 02/03/2025 08:28

@merrymelodies

There are many other facets to that interview.
It's trump negotiation not high end politics we arnt at that level anymore because the white house isn't being led by one.

The USA are literally smacking Europe around the face and pouring cold water on them to wake the hell up and get organised, get military aid up start to look after yourselves!

@JacqFrost

You're so right. I was just thinking the other day about how much better life was before 9/11 and the internet.

Hamilton6382 · 02/03/2025 08:44

I’m more concerned about the harm to our lives caused by Starmer and the Labour party. It’s no going to end well.

Yes this sums up where I am now, and the things I'm most worried about.

I see 9/11 as a watershed too. I'm sure it isn't really quite that simple but it does feel like things started going downhill very visibly and more quickly from that time onwards.

Boredlass · 02/03/2025 08:50

I don’t pay attention to the news and stay away from Trump stuff so I’m not bothered at all. I think we are all being fed propaganda from both sides so I don’t bother to read any of it. I’m all better for it

Trump's just a symptom. If things weren't bad the Americans wouldn't have voted him in twice. Biden couldn't even function towards the end of his term, yet he was running again. Hilary was largely despised.

TodayIsTheGreatest · 02/03/2025 08:54

Completely rational to feel very anxious about global politics because it affects us on daily issues and isn’t travelling in a peaceful democratic direction.

Do tell, what harm is Starmer doing that is more concerning than the threat of a 3rd world war?
Taking winter fuel allowance away? Adding VAT to private school fees?

When you say the masses are sleeping walking into a situation, what exactly would you like the masses to do about it?

HelpMeGetThrough · 02/03/2025 08:58

Not at all worried. I'm not going to waste my time thinking about them.

Hazeby · 02/03/2025 09:02

I’m not worried. Here’s why not (since you asked):

We survived the first Trump presidency with no noticeable change to our lives.

There is always conflict and disagreement and there always will be. But rarely does it explode into something that changes our day-to-day lives, here in the UK (of course it’s different for people who live in war zones)

Trump says an awful lot of stuff but only enacts half of it. There’s an awful lot of hot air. He changes his mind constantly. And the vast majority of his decisions are American domestic policy.

This is all transitory. Next week, next month, next year we’ll all be talking about something else he’s said or done.

Going into Iraq on premise of the war on terror really did open up a huge can of worms that are unfolding today. Not sure western unity or trust in politics and the media has ever recovered.

I honestly can't remember a good US president. That's including Obama.

Stop voting for Trump and believing crap and conspiracy they read online?

NigelAdjacent · 02/03/2025 09:09

I worry that we’re already into a war we don’t know the scale of, in terms of disinformation, electoral and political interference, and technological warfare eg hacking.
I’m aware this makes me sound a bit weird. But I think that as citizens we need to be a hell of a lot more switched on than we are about ways in which we are being influenced.

Hamilton6382 · 02/03/2025 09:16

Starmer is quietly destroying the UK economy and along with it the long accepted social contract. The impact of Labour’s actions will impact everyone in the UK far more than anything Trump does. The fact your economic awareness appears to extend only to WFA and VAT is probably why you can’t see this for yourself.

Then you have a tenuous grasp on reality.
