Normally I try not to read the news too much, as it makes me worried and I can’t do much about it

but since trump has buddied up with putin, it’s starting to get me quite worried about what the hell is going no to happen
again I suppose there’s not much I can do about it either way
si don’t really know what I’m really other than are you really worried too
and if you’re not what do you tend to say to yourself about it all ?

I worry about the mental health of all those millions of people who actually thought that having a dangerous, unpredictable megalomanicac in power was a good idea.

Because no one is likely to kick off at the US directly whereas the UK is a bit of a stand alone at the moment

luckily we have little in way of natural resources as a motive

and we don’t have daughters

but there are guns

it was just an option unlikely to be required, but H has never vocalised the possibility before which is notable

What? You may be find the U.K. a heaven but for others is a shit place with shit weather. So shock news to you for some the US is still much better. They are not squeeze to death with taxes and you can get great healthcare with a private insurance. ( much cheaper than the taxes here) We worked out the expenses and taxes and yes much better. I find that people with so extreme opinions of the US are either brainwashed since childhood and they never step foot there or just plain old Marxist.
Starmer should be thanking that all attention is on Trump as the activists are out in force ( see ridiculous posts about praising Starmer so obvious) but the reality is that the U.K. is in a downward spiral and it is done since Brexit. Even compared to other countries in Europe the optics are better.

cakeybird · 02/03/2025 13:33

more concerned than I remember being.

I’m more concerned about the harm to our lives caused by Starmer and the Labour party. It’s no going to end well.

👏🏻👏🏻 Quite. Labour determined to see the end of UK being able to feed itself.

I didn’t say the UK was a heaven for us. Right now it’s where our elderly residents are and our children have school and lives. Right now.

But we all have dual EU passports, a decent private pension, decent income and could make a jump to the US, or other countries for work if we thought we needed to.

We actually have no intention of staying in UK once teens are established adults.

It was just that H mentioned green card to US on Friday which he has never mentioned before which is notable. It would take quite a bit to uproot right now. But the fact possible options are swimming around his head indicates to me he’s more uncertain staying here than he has been. Which isn’t a good sign. Add to the fact I kind of just accepted it might be what we have to do. It wasn’t a disgust face it was a “god this sounds like a lot of upheaval face”. As in FFS is this where we are heading.

I know a lot of women seem to think this is a minor or irrelevant issue but I was white hot terrified having a president and an administration in America who pretended not to know what a woman was, and who set about erasing them in law. Not to mention the propping up of a leader with clear dementia. Who was running the country?

Anything that happens now is on the Democrats. No one forced them to go completely batshit crazy re gender ideology and identity politics that 80pc or more of the American public detested.

Not worried at all and I'm from an ex-soviet-occupied country. Why y'all so worried about putin? He's useless. Couldn't take Ukraine in 3 years, his so called 'military power' is hopeless and laughable. His biggest strength is the sheer numbers of his own he doesn't give a fuck about and can throw in a grinder, but even these are running out. Furthermore, the war in Ukraine will end, and all the psycho rapists, torturers, depraved murderers will come back to mother russia - that will be fun for them. Once they won't be able to adjust to a civilian life and start slaughtering their own. Which is already happening and russia isn't telling the world.

I'm from a country who upped their military game very significantly in the past decade, we have further alliances with our neighbours in the same position and we're also in Nato. Let him come if he's stupid, he'll be crushed. Just like stalin was humiliated in Finland back in the day. With all do respect, we're not Ukraine, who were very military disadvantaged country with a host of internal problems pre-war.

Don't underestimate the sheer naked hatred we have for them. Just like Ukrainians do. Brits won't undertstand, you were never occupied, that's why I read all the 'I'd better see my kids grow up and live under putin than go to war' or the glib 'it can't be much worse than the current shitshow'. It CAN. Oh, how it can, you won't even believe. I'd rather see myself and my kids dead that live under those fuckers again. And most of my countrymen agree with me.

As for the orange imbecile, he might prove useful in a way. By trying to dismantle EU, he brought all the countries closer than they were ever before, kicked their asses into gear and maybe we, collectively, won't be so reliant on US 'help' anymore. America always been, is and will always be untrustworthy, with their mercenary 'help'. An aliance with them isn't worth the paper it's written on, they'll throw you to the dogs as soon as the money's right. See Ukraine and Budapest memorandum.

What will the unholy trinity of orangeman, vance and musk do to Americans? Nothing good. Nothing good at all. But they brought this on themselves voluntarily, so can now face the music.

As for nuclear end, I just don't believe it will ever happen. It's my personal opinion. However much I loathe the russkies and don't consider them human, they still want to live, after all.

I just wish that the west would open up their eyes once and for all with their 'oh poor ordinary russians, they're good harmless folk, it's just putin who is evil' bullshit. They're not. The biggest majority of them are cruel, dark, propaganda rinsed-brained barbarians with naked asses and vast imperial ambitions, harking back to the glorious mother russia days. Their whole history since the beginning of times is war, rape and pillage and they love their Tzar to be heavy handed with them, not kind. They even have a saying 'if he beats you, it means he loves you' (Бьёт значит любит). They activelly support putin, and there are many who think he should pound Ukraine more, not less.

We were occupied by them for almost a hundred years, first by their tzar, then by soviets and forced to live with them side by side. We know firsthand what 'harmless nice folk' they are.

Better dead than red always.

So interesting thank you. Wish we could know which country you're referring to?

FFS, this again?

I didn't like the Biden administration's stance on gender issues either, but it is absurd to suggest that a tilt towards the far right was the only possible answer.

The left need to step up and look at what went wrong, absolutely. However, those on the right are the ones responsible for choosing a fascist candidate.

It is absolutely fucking absurd to see how those on the right repeatedly attempt to justify their shameful behaviour by claiming that the left somehow made them do it. Nobody is falling for this shit and you just make yourselves look ridiculous.

If the Republican party had wanted to offer a moderate alternative to Biden, they could have done so. Instead, they chose Trump. Whatever happens next is entirely on them, and on the idiots who voted for them.

Stop trying to pass the buck.

ContactNightmare · 02/03/2025 14:35

Yes Trump voters own the mess. And everything afterwards.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/03/2025 16:53

Very much not delighted he is in power.

I think him and Vance made idiots of themselves and were really uncouth with Zelenskyy. Shameful.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 02/03/2025 16:54

@WomensRightsRenegade Trump knows what a woman is. He grabs them by the ..., apparently. Then boasts to the boys about it like a loser.

Cynic17 · 02/03/2025 16:55

I'm not worried at all, because worrying achieves absolutely nothing.
Also, I grew up at the height of the Cold War, so trouble in the world is not exactly new... in fact, it's been there for hundreds of years.

Ah yes. Another victim of Trans Derangement Syndrome.

Honestly, it's like the hallmark of an abuser: Look what you made me do. FFS.

ParrotParty · 02/03/2025 17:54

I would much rather america be buddies with Russia than approaching war with them.
Europe can support Ukraine, and hopefully a deal can be pushed for that whilst not ideal will at least end the war. There's never going to be a perfect solution so some level of compromise is necessary.
I don't like how trump spoke to zelensky, but equally its likely a political move to keep Russia more under control.

DeanElderberry · 02/03/2025 18:50

I'm not exactly worried but I did buy 9 loo rolls and intend to buy more, and I know where my anti-radioactivity iodine pills are. But that's my default setting, hope for the best but be prepared.
